I really like "Meaning of Life". I'd give it 3.5 balls out of 4. I've only watched it once though, and I was stoned, but I laughed my balls off.

There's too many stoners, drunks, drunk stoners, and stoned drunks on this board. =P

I guess that means you're in the square minority?

I do get drunk on occassion, so it's better to label me a round square. =P

"Days of Heaven" 1978 - 4 / 5
Shortly after starting shooting, Terrence Malick threw out the script and had the actors improvise to get the feel for the characters and story. It took him 2 years to edit the movie, because he had trouble piecing together his own film into a coherent story.

And you sure can tell. This is a difficult movie to get through (for me at least). The visuals are stunning and as always, the atmosphere Malick creates is beautiful. But the acting and dialogue, especially the narration, feel stilted and unnatural. It almost ruins the "real life" aspect that Malick is so great at showing in film.

Just watched this yesterday (for the second time). You're kind of right about the acting and dialogue, but I just get so caught up in the beauty of everything that that almost goes unnoticed for me.

Man if you haven't seen the original Star Wars stoned, you just simply have not lived.

Go out, buy some quality reefer, pop in Harmy's ANH, and prepare yourself.

Sorry, but the actions of my immediate family members have turned me against marihuana for all time.

LSD or opium, on the other hand ...

And the ability to spell, apparently.

"Marihuana" is an alternative spelling of "marijuana".

You're Captian Obvious, though, so you should realize this.

Yeah, you'll be asleep by the cantina :P

Seriously, I don't think I've made it through the entire movie while I was high unless it was a marathon or something.

^I love that poster, except for the syringe. What's that doin' there?

Well everybody knows marihuana is a gateway drug, and that gate apparently opens up to misery-filled syringes.

Life of Brian

Sony let the BD go OOP which is damn frustrating.

Doesn't appear that way to me:

I need to get the UK one as it's the same disc region free. Before I could get the regular US release it went OOP and is now only sold by third party sellers. Yet Sony still sells the DVD version. They did the same thing with Dr. Strangelove and the CE set for CEot3K.

Adventures of Baron Munchausen

Whimsical for the sake of being whimsical. This picture works in sputters, gasps and brief passages. As a whole it is overlong and as typical with Gilliam, not fully developed in the narrative. It should be a wonderful throwback to adventure fantasies of old but instead never quite manages to spark. However, the design is phenomenal as is the juxtaposition of both classical and modernized special effects. It did not deserve to be buried by Columbia.

The Criterion CAV release is quite good and displays a deep level of care.

3.25 balls out of 4.

I finally watched The Wolf of Wall Street. The thing I liked the most about it is how it takes the audience through the story. Although the story is about all sorts of bad things, it somehow makes you feel they are not bad and even makes you feel euphoric. Probably the way Belfort actually experienced it.

They tend to make me anxious even when I'm alone.  It's not for lack of variety, haha, I just know what I respond to well.

Dressed to Kill (1980) - Pretty damn amazing. Why does everyone talk about De Palma's crime films, but not his pre-Scarface works? Dressed to KillBlow Out and Phantom of the Paradise all show you how amazing of a director Brian De Palma was. I'd argue they are much better directed than films like Scarface and Carlito's Way. Yeah, sure, he's "ripping off Hitchcock" and whatnot, but I think he's damn good at it. Sleazy fun. 4.2 out of 5.

I definitely understand that!  Once in a while I'm the same way.  Unfortunately I can never find any indica's so I'm stuck with it so I've just made myself adapt.  But once in a while I freak the f*ck out!  Anyway...

Black Death-Pretty strong film.  Didn't see the need for the to show a guy peeing, but to each his own I guess.  I give it 8.232 burned witches out of 10.

Just watched this, and hated it.

The first hour, mind you, was well done and I really enjoyed it.

Couldn't maintain, though.  Could not at all.

Just watched it, and I agree completely.  There were some flaws with the first half, but it was intriguing and entertaining, culminating in the fantastic action of the heist scene.  And then it all goes to crap, culminating in a super boring fight scene.

Missed opportunity, too bad.

I haven't seen Chappie yet, but would there be any way to stitch the two good halves together?

I've searched the web and YouTube for good discussions of KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE. About all I could find were official trailers, conventional reviews, and a little obvious shillery.

I've already given my review in my lastest post in the thread.

I'm just curious to read what others thought of it.

        Anybody?
