Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 531

The Blu-ray format doesn't encode freeform metadata into the stream.  The idea is that it would be on the menus, so there's no need.  But on a menuless disc, well...

There is actually some limited metadata.  You've got language, which the player will show, and you've got type of audio encoding and number of channels (derived from the actual audio track, you can't set this), which they player may or may not show, but that's about it.  No dates, no general-purpose text comments field.

I just wanted to thank everyone here, Harmy especially (obviously), for this project. I assembled a box set using Spheretronic's art and gave it to my dad, who was born in '67 and saw every OT episode in theaters on opening day. He was absolutely blown away by the project, he loved it. Here are a few images of the box set:

I know my folding isn't perfect -- this was my first ever papercraft project. If I did it again I'd be able to do it much more cleanly.

Also, I know the print job isn't perfect. Shockingly (or not?) Fedex Office's printers wouldn't accurately reproduce all the colors, at least nowhere near as well as Spheretronic's original post. The print job was only like $5 total though, so I can't complain too much.

Can you give me some advice on what kind of paper or card stock I should use for this project? I am going to attempt to create this box set for my step dad. I think I can handle the printing but I'd be happy to hear some tips before I take the plunge.

Perhaps this was discussed and I know to a degree it might be a waste since only one major part of it is different but has there been discussion of a possible despecialized edition of the 1981 rerelease? The only major part of this that is different is the opening crawl which features Episode IV A New Hope at the top and the words in the crawl are somewhat rearranged. Also the Star Wars logo fades out before the crawl starts unlike the other versions where its fades out as the crawl starts. Like I said I know to a degree this ain't a big deal cause its mostly the same film but truthfully this is probably the version of the original most people remember anyways since the only official release of the original film with the original opening crawl was the 2006 DVD. Anyways just thought Id ask.

I believe Harmy's done an '81 crawl/flyover reconstruction already (I have no link though), but it's not attached to the rest of the film. I think the goal was to have it as an extra in the Blu-ray, but I'm sure an enterprising individual could splice them together.  I'd have a lot fewer issues with the '81 crawl if it didn't screw up Tatooine appearing in time with the musical cue, which is, at least to me, indicative of the general carelessness for the originals that pervades every change made to these films.  And a lot of us saw Star Wars in theatres before 1981... many times.

Funny thing is, I never watched it, nostalgically speaking, without the "Episode IV: A New Hope" addition, but knowing now what is right, I've had little issue adjusting to the '77 version.

Hello all, apologies for semi-vanishing, been quite busy with work over the last few weeks (I do lots of A/V work from home so i'm sure some of you know how long those things can take). I believe the only thing I'm waiting on is Harmy's intro video and menu background video, otherwise i'm just tinkering with re-encoding some of the supplementary audio tracks at lower rates until everything fits within the data rate allotment. I'll be sure to let you guys know if that still causes problems and then we can figure out what to cut, if anything at all. <3

edit: Harmy, for the intro and menu videos, you can either have them as two separate video files or just one and if you tell me the timecode of where you want the loop point/menu appearance point to be i can just set a chapter point there and have it loop back on the chapter point, either one works.

I'd like to see a tweaked (properly timed) '81 crawl.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Yes, but doesn't it use the post-81 modified crawl?

Let's not bicker, use the earliest version of the '81 crawl.

If I remember correctly, not only does it fix the speed issue found on the 04 DVD, but it also retimes it to match the musical cue as found on the '77 crawl.

So, what was that about Despecialized? :P

If I'm perfectly honest, I would also love to have a version of despecialized with the '81 crawl.  Sometimes it's just nice having that episode number if you're having a marathon with either the official versions of the prequels or fan edits.  In fact, if someone's working on a blu ray with menus and whatnot, having an option to play either the '77 theatrical version or the '81 re-release version would be pretty darn cool.  Like if anybody has seen the Harry Potter ultimate edition blu rays, for the first two movies you click play movie and then two options pop up "play theatrical" or "play extended edition".  Could be a cool feature for ANH.

A branching option would be fantastic!

Yeah, but it doesn't work very well for SW. ;)

Hello¡ I have the Despecialized in DVD, and i don´t know if this DVD can fit in a Blu-Ray case to put the covers on these. Does Anybody know something about it?

Likewise CDs are the same standard dimensions as DVDs and BDs...  And I'm baffled that this question actually made it beyond a casual thought and out onto the internet...

First of all, I've known this forum to be very helpful when it comes to technical matters and I'm disappointed that the above users would tell you that DVD and Blu-ray are the same size on purpose just to fuck with you. I expected better from them.

Let's do a quick size comparison:
http://i.imgur.com/uJitcH7.png
As you can see, the Blu-ray on the left is MUCH larger than the DVD on the right. This is because the Blu-ray's total data capacity is nearly 6 times as large as DVDs. Not only that, but the center hole is much larger than the DVD as well, so if you try to put a DVD in a Blu-ray case you won't be able to fit it on the little center spool thing.

Blu-ray cases are a little hard to come by on their own, so what you need to do is PM TV's Frink and if he still has any in stock he'll hook you up.

A sincere warning to Harmy: Please do not answer this or any other question posed by this individual. He has moved on from Hal9000 to bigger fish.
