The WEG stuff is much better than the EU that it spawned.

There are exceptions to my statement.
Makes you wonder if anyone remembers the X-wing game that inspired the novels.
Been so long i doubt the current generation has ever played it never mind ever heard of it.
Wedge was a main character in the books. He has been erased from the new movie.
Some no name dude leads rogue squadron.

Ô_o
All of the old X-Wing games literally went back on sale this past week after years of campaigning for them to do so.
The actor that plays Wedge was invited to come back and responded:

I’m not going to do that….They asked me but it just would have bored me.
Even if they hadn't invited him back, him not appearing does not equate him being erased. It's been 30 years since ROTJ, he would have retired by now anyway.

Pessimism can be sad or it can be funny. In this case, it's the latter.
Dathka Graush. I love when the Sith species kicks ass.

So a man in his 60s with no life ambition, skills, or achievements other than leading a certain squad of spaceships for the last three decades is a compelling character?
Honestly, I'm glad we won't be seeing "Aging No-Dreams Wedge."
If Wedge ever appears in the ST, I want to see him as this big, wealthy owner of a prosperous plantation, with a lovely wife and fifteen kids* at his side.
*Or fifteen wives and a kid -- whichever launches Wedge's X-Wing.
I'd rather Wedge not show up in the new films. It'd be very fan servicey. Too much so.
Since my absence from here I really loved the early EU stuff from the DE series to the Jedi Academy novels written by Anderson. He stays true to the OT formula of going to distant planets, minimizing usage of the force to only certain parts, and the Old characters all seem familiar to me- other than Han being sort of a father figure to young Kyp Durron. I have only read a few pages of the first Thrawn book, but it seemed to be just as good as the rest of the early EU stuff.
I wish I could say the same for some of the LOTF novels, granted I loved Lumiya, some scenes with Caedus, but Luke's character was incredibly weak
I was reading some of the old WEG stuff and I gotta say some really cool stuff was in them. Specifically this one mission were you and Luke have to try and rescue a Jedi that IIRC was either captured by the Empire or was in some remote area that was occupied by Imperial forces.
I am enjoying Scoundrels so far, even though Luke is not in it.
The little throwbacks to the prequels, shadows of the empire and rebel dawn were all unwanted. But it was always typical EU to try to tie in with everything.

I like that these two characters actually stem from the same original prototype.
“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”
I love original SWTOR stroyline content.
真実
I'm happy that near-humans have made their way into the nuEU.
I'm reading The Last Command for the first time and I love how Zahn writes Jedi mind tricks. General Corvell's feelings of loneliness without C'baoth controlling him are genuinely frightening accounts. I've never really thought about just how far that domination goes before.
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
A question yanked from its improper place in the Random Thoughts thread:
Are there any NJO novels that people here actually like?
I read an excerpt of the first book, Vector Prime, in the SW Insider magazine years and years ago when it first came out.
The thing I remember most was that Leia had contracted some disease that made her hair fall out. Somehow I suspect GL himself provided that idea--maybe a holdover from his THX 1138 days?

I remember liking the last two books* in the Force Heretic Trilogy, largely because they dealt with the Unknown Regions.
*I never read the first book in the trilogy. Being an in medias res kinda kid when I was younger, I didn't mind starting in the middle of a story.
Just finished the 'Empire and Rebellion' duology in anticipation of Heir to the Jedi. Hearing about the supposed plot leaks about TFA, I thought the plot device toward the end of Honor Among Thieves would fit thematically. Without getting into spoilers, it dealt well with how someone like Leia would handle Death Star-level power if she had the opportunity.
The Rogue Squadron games
I like that my days of having to collect it are over. I put plenty of money into bad comics and bad novels just to enjoy some new stories.
Looking back most of it has not aged well, i was a different person in high school and very forgiving of bad tie in fiction.
While the Zahn trilogy is not great fiction or great science fiction, its very readable official fanfiction. I would say 90% of the rest could be sent to the wood chipper.

The planet Fiddanl. Mercury oceans and rapidly drifting continents are cool concepts that I would love to see.
I like how Palpatine is considered the strongest and greatest of all Sith.
^Not that he should be a Sith in the first place, though.
