I got fired on my first day. First time that's ever happened. Supposedly you're not allowed to sit down during a break. It was a 13 hour shift, 30 some degrees, wet, and I was wearing dress clothes, because the owner of the place didn't bother to tell me that it wasn't going to be an orientation, and that I was going to be getting into the gritty work of power washing houses.

I bit my lip and took it most of the day, until about a few hours to the end of my day. I ended up doing most of the work on the last house, while the manager stood around and shot the shit with the owner of the house, while standing within 5 feet of me.

A while later, I was told that if I finished 4 sections of the driveway, I could take a break, and the manager would do 4 sections. I see he's off on his own somewhere, so I do six, just to keep busy. I see him come back, and he takes over. So I take the break I was told I could have. I grab my lunchbox and try to eat the lunch I was never told to have. I was in the truck for 2 minutes, and I hear screaming. I open up the door, and the guy was saying "I'm not gonna let you sit on your ass while I do all the work!" I give this man the look of death, and said "You told me I could have a break, what the fuck else was I gonna do on my break?" and he stumbled over his own pompous tongue "You could organize the fucking toolbox"....this being the toolbox this asshole threw cigarette packs and chip bags in. He continued "When my workers don't work, when I'm working, I call the owner, and tell him to fire their ass" I was fed up at that point. "Call him!", I didn't give a shit for once. I believe in hard work, but you can't win with people like this. So he grabs his cellphone and walks off. Keep in mind, I wasn't in my own vehicle during this job, as it was locked up in the storage unit where our equipment was held.

So I stood in the cold, my nice clothes ruined with bleach, and at the complete mercy of an asshole who fired me. I had to stand and watch him, so HE could drive me back to get my truck.

He not once looked at me, until the ride to the storage unit. He tried to play the whole thing off, like it wasn't as bad as all that. I wanted to hit him so hard, but I wanted to get in my vehicle and go home. I was done. He had the nerve to tell me what time to get started the next day, I laughed at him.

The owner later called and tried to get me to come back, but I knew I would always be at the mercy of a man like that. I couldn't stomach answering to a guy like that, so I declined. So I was fired, and quit all within the same 2 hours.

what an a-hole!  My God . . . Sorry to hear you had such bad day.  Hopefully you find a better job soon.   Any chance of talking to the owner and telling him your side of the story?

Thanks man! The owner and the manager are old buddies. I'm sure the owner knows, because I've been like the 3rd or 4th replacement within the last little while. The manager was also a good 30 minutes late on my first day. The owner also played down how big of an ass the guy was by saying "he can be a little difficult to work with".

I wasn't getting any of those bad vibes from the guy on the first house we worked on. It's like he turned into an ass on the last house.

You may want to look up the labor laws in your state because all I know is that in Delaware the law requires your boss to give you a break on a shift that long and once you are on break they are not allowed to tell you what to do.  What is more in extreme heat or cold they have to let you get out of elements every few hours.

As i said I don't know what the laws are in your state but where I live you have the grounds for reporting the jerk to the department of labor and taking civil action against him.

I told him that it was the law for me to be given breaks every so many hours of work with a lunch. He told me it didn't apply to me, because I was on contract. What is interesting was that a box for lunch was left empty on my time log, so I supposedly was allowed to get one.

The job is in Texas, and I think they probably get away with a lot of that shit, because our workforce isn't Texas workers, it's immigrant labor. I have nothing against our immigrant workforce, I find it ironic that the same people condemning them, are the ones who exploit them. The owner did say he had several businesses before including a lawn-care service and maid service. So I have a grasp on what kind of people he has under him.

I have no issues with hard work. I applied for the job, because it was physical.

Maybe I'll find my rhythm in life, right now I'm just taking chances and making a lot of bad decisions. My 20's are ebbing away pretty quick.

I quite like some of her music. I've never dug deep into it, but the handful of songs I've heard from her have all been good, and she's really the only memory I have of watching Grease.

See this is the big problem with people just being allowed to cross the border and work off of the books, they not only hurt themselves but every other worker in America.  All the progress that has been made for workers since the end of the slave trade is being undone because businesses can just hire illegal immigrants. We are being returned to serfdom, pretty soon America is going to be a third world country where a few rich people work everyone else to death in labor camps.  There is no way to stop this as long as the border remains open or we let these people remain here and yet not have the same rights as everyone else.

The only solutions I can see to this problem are either make the penalty for knowingly hiring an illegal life in prison without parole so businesses will not risk it any more.

Shut down the border so the labor force that is undercutting the rights of our own citizens dries up(by the way many countries in Europe do this as does China, Canada, and even Mexico so if they complain or call us racist it is the pot calling the kettle black)and companies are forced to respect the basic human rights of their workers again.

Or pass a new law that declares that anyone who lives in the United States for more then a year becomes a citizen without having to file any paper work and these people then not only have to report their income and pay taxes to support the government like the rest of us but they have all of the rights the rest of us have too so they can no longer be exploited and used as a way to get around the basic legal rights of the work force of this country.

If something is not done soon this whole country will just become one giant slave labor camp where no one except a few people who are born rich will be allowed to do anything other then work 24/7 without rest or food until they drop dead in the gutter.

Right now in the United States there is no such thing as even the most basic human rights being respected, this has to change.

People think I hate my country, but the fact is, I probably love it more than most Americans. My frustration is due to my love of this country. I'm not one of those guys that think the country needs to be like it used to. I think it should be better than it ever has been. The political party system is really what has corrupted the government. There is support no of policies, it's support of a party. You either pick a side or don't pick any.

I agree with some things from the democratic party as well as the republican party, but I have to choose one over the other? Sure, you could say to vote for the 3rd party, but that usually just screws it up for the better of the other 2 choices. It's like Ralph Nader, all he did was help get Bush into the White House by swinging democratic voters his way, of course corruption got Bush into the White House.

This country is turning into a beehive or an ant colony. I wonder how many "terrorist groups" or "cults" were actually small groups wanting to bring forth revolution, and were just swept under the rug as evil people, or nutjobs.

Yes, exactly.  This is why I didn't vote in the last two elections, neither party stands for anything other then power and they both carter to the extreme wings of the country to get it, so no matter who i vote for I would be supporting something I don't believe in.

What is a pro life person who believes in free enterprise but also believe business needs to be regulated in order not to let it get to powerful and who supports unions while also believing their most extreme demands should not be met while at the same time thinking we need to close down the border but also thinks the patriot act is a threat to our freedom supposed to do under the current system.  No matter who i vote for I will be supporting something I can't stand.  Since no one votes for issues any more once they are elected there us no one for me to vote for.

I definitely agree. I think the patriot act should've just been named 1984, because that's exactly how it feels. Yes I can make money and buy things like cars and televisions, while my basic freedoms are melting away while I'm busy staring at a screen wondering why people think this dress is white, when I see blue.

Yeah why is that thing such a big deal?  I don't care what colour people see when they look at it.

I would rather have my freedom restored and not have to worry about the government dragging me off to a prison camp at some point, thank you very much.

Yeah that is the only reason I am glad there is no highspeed where I live, my house can not be easily bugged.

Then again is life really worth living these days?  There is no freedom and the constant stress of trying to keep a job and make enough money to live gets combined with having to make sure you don't say the wrong thing.  Maybe the government death squad will be doing us all a favor when they show up to snuff us. Are the lives we have in the modern world really worth living in the first place?  I am not so sure any more.

Well i remember watching it on and off when it first aired and liking it so I have started working my way through the series Alias on DvD and I have been enjoying it but that has come to a stop because of the stupid copy protection on the discs.

I got to the end of season one and then found that none of the DvDs for season two will play or even be read by any of my DvD players or computers.  I have tried several copies that are all in perfect shape and none of them will play on any DvD player or drive.  i have not been able to find much about this online but what I could find indicates that this is a case of Disney putting such strict copy protection on the discs that nothing can read them.

How is that even legal?  I mean if you pay money for a disc with the DvD logo on it don't you have the right to expect it to work in your players that have the DvD logo on them?  So now not only am I out $20 for all of the copies I have tried but I can't ever see the rest of the show.

Garbage like this why piracy exists.  i will never pay money for another Disney product because I have no way of knowing if it will work and I can't afford to throw money away.  If you ask me this is fraud and I will not be a victim of it any more. Disney never gets another cent of my money as long as I live.

So was it worth it Disney?  You got $20 of my money but you lost the rest of it for life and I am not rooting for your little con job factory to go bankrupt.

Treating your costumers like crooks and cheating them is bad business in the long run, why can't companies see this?
