Vimeo is another good alternative.

I considered recommending them, but they've taken down several adywan videos in the past.

Why can't rights holders understand that even bad reviews can still generate sales for them since some people will want to see how bad the thing is.

I think they should at least have the decency to ask any given user to remove their videos themselves before reporting to YouTube for copyright infringement.

Yeah I think most people wouldn't be so mad if it was just something between them and the rights holders and they didn't get whole accounts banned.

I mean the Cinema Snob got banned without being given a chance to take the one video that got a complaint out of the hundred or so he has on the site down.  I mean that is just insane.

That is why I don't want to try this on Youtube because I don't want to lose my account if one video gets a complaint.  I'll give it a shot on those other two sites.

I've had plenty of videos blocked on YouTube.  I just remove them when it happens.

Me too. Quite a few of my videos have been blocked for various reasons, but they haven't seriously screwed my channel.

However, I did get one copyright claim a long time ago for a THX Logo video...but even that strike was eventually lifted.

And what of Soderbergh? (He's using Vimeo for his 2001 Edit.) I don't know how he does get away with it...

This always strikes me as odd and to me it shows that Youtube and the rights holders don't really understand how internet reviews and other things work.  I mean There is a large portion of my home video collection that I term the so bad it's good section and they are mostly all movies that I bought because of the comedy reviews or rifftrax I came across online. I wouldn't even have bought the prequels on DvD if it were not for Rifftrax.  I mean I have gone to the trouble of tracking down a few of the movie The Cinema Snob has done just because I wanted to see them unedited.  Far from costing them money, having these shows that use clip generate money for the rights holders but getting people like me to go out and buy a copy of their movies on DvD.  Why can't the rights holders seem to wrap their heads around this fact?

I mean heck if the makers of Clonus had denied MST3K permission to do their movie would anyone have alerted them to the fact that The Island ripped off their movie? The fact is people like me do have a kind of sick love for these bad movies and we are loyal fans just trying to share this really strange relationship we have with these films.  I mean this is how sick it can get some times, when I was watching that one Dirty Harry movie I got really excited when I spotted Charles Pierces name in the credits because he made the Legend of Boggy Creek, in other words the fact that he let his movie be mocked made me a fan of his, why doesn't that seem to count for anything when it comes to these sorts of cases?

If I recall correctly, he left after having an argument with Warbler and possibly darth ender over his comments on Christianity. It basically boiled down to him saying, "If you can't stand having me here speaking my mind, then I'll spare you by not speaking here at all".

Well, that makes me sound very petty, so you get *angry wrong buzzer sound*!

;)

Bingowings left because he was talking weird stuff, equating the Islamic State to HYDRA from Marvel comics and extolling his many bizarre political conspiracies, which he was well permitted to talk about without anything but legitimate criticism.  And while he was used to arguing with me, he usually had the backing of TV's Frink or even when Frink disagreed (which I know at times he did), usually he'd keep out of the discussion (Frink is much more vocally in opposing conservatives than liberals, even when he disagrees with the liberals I have observed).  Bingowings is quite welcome to speak his mind.  However, if his mind sounds idiotic, I'm obliged to point it out.  Don't think he can't criticize Christianity or my political views.  He just can't do it without counterargument.  And apparently he couldn't take that much rebuttal.  It really was a petty move on his part, IMHO.  I even encouraged him to stay, but apparently that wasn't enough.

Need evidence?

Discussion part 1

Discussion part 2 (the part discussing the war in Palestine)

Discussion 3

Frink agrees that Bingo is being irrational

So Bingo takes his ball and goes home

If you care to enjoy the whole experience, read from part 1.  If you only want to read a little tantrum, read the last link.  In any case, Bingowings has demonstrated himself to be something of a hypocrite.  He's welcome to bring his hypocrisy back to Off Topic, but not without a little checks and balances.  Quite honestly, I don't miss him.

Oh, c'mon -- I was just being cautiously speculative since I couldn't remember the details. =P

And JFTR, I wasn't criticizing you or Warbler or defending Bingo. I do think you guys have the right to defend your beliefs and I do think he overreacted. Still, I did get enjoyment out of reading most of his non-political/religious posts here, and I do miss them.

Don't lose hope, eternity isn't over yet.

I like to think he'll return someday.  I had an argument with him at the time as well and his rationale in it was poor, to say the least.  And there were many others (Frink included) that were on my side in the argument.  (Well it wasn't so much an argument as a disagreement.  He was trying to be helpful, but then he just randomly through this one line in at the end of his post that ruined the whole rest of what he was trying to accomplish and I took offense to it.)  Which makes me think that at the time he may have been going through difficult trials and not been thinking fully clearly.  And to be fair, I was going through difficult times and not thinking clearly either, and my reaction to the things he said may have been over the top and I regret the way I responded, but I stand by the offense I took at the message, but I do forgive him for it.

And I'm far too lazy to drag up a link to this, sorry.

Thanks for the correct link. And what I mean is if you have a small disagreement with me, you won't hesitate to make a point of it, but often when you even had a big disagreement with Bingowings, you would just stay quiet. Just my observation, and not meant as a criticism. I probably do similar things, like when Ferris is over the top but I don't jump on him.

I should add that I used to really enjoy Bingo, even when we had the occasional tiff.  But when every disagreement became a discussion on how my religion is weird (though others I guess are perfectly normal), I really grew tired of it. I felt like I couldn't say anything or convince him of anything.  I'd say, "This is what I think," with regards to religion or politics or whatever. He'd say a couple of posts later, "You believe that." I'd remind him that I just said I believed something different, but he would keep on jumping on me and arguing against his preconceived notion of me.  It was tiring and mind numbing. If he ever wants to come back, he's welcome. If he ever cares about my opinion of him (fat chance), he will need to show a willingness to listen instead of always talking from his hindquarters and listening with the same.

Next time I put my hand in a box of chocolates (quality street) in the dark. I must check the silver foil is off the toffee before I bite down on it. How was I to know that it was a double wrapper ? Ouch !!

Presumably in the Bingowings scenarios we linked to, you agreed that his argument methods were poor (i.e. bringing my church into the discussion) and that his ultimate point was wrong, in that IS is a real threat, not a rich oil-grabbing conspiracy.  But look how long it took for you to jump in and point it out, after pages and pages of the discussion resurfacing.  If I'd made a similar case that such was performed by powerful communist-sympathizing Americans, I have a feeling you would have pointed it out immediately, given that you know I am of a more conservative mindset.  Your first example was cited in the above links.  I could dig deeper if I cared enough to prove it, but you did only request a single example.
