It's astonishing how much shadow detail simply seems to be gone in this print, although the canyon scene was substantially lightened for home video release.

Yes, there is less detail. However, when seen at full resolution, and with some color correction, you get a much more accurate idea.
I'm not sure about the VHS sources, because we didn't use any. I guess they match some of the laserdisc ones also.
You are looking at more than 50% reduction in the picture horizontically and vertically. This is meant as a broad comparison of versions, not an indicator of detail or resolution.

^It seems that way. While I don't much like reddit, I can see why AnctuFaalb chose it. Perhaps you could do what I have done, which is to register but check reddit less frequently than ot.com.
AMPS is the source for a lot more restorations than just Star Wars. We think its a good cause to support and encourage.
