General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread — Page 160

My daughter's birthday was the other day.  I have been trying to push Star Wars on my kids for years, and my now 5 year old daughter is actually accepting it better than my 7 year old boys.  So this year we found a used Princess Leia Barbie-type doll for her.  After playing with it for a few hours, my daughter peeked under her skirt.  Noting that Leia wasn't wearing any panties, my daughter asked me, "Daddy, how come Leia isn't wearing any underwear?"  I only barely resisted my immediate urge to respond, "There is no underwear in space."

It was hard having such a wonderful joke fall right into my lap and have no one to share it with. :(  That's why I'm so glad I have all of you nerds to hang with. :)

I've never seen anybody mention the fact that George Lucas can't pronounce Calrissian correctly.

I wonder if he does it on purpose? Like a test of some sort? If you dare correct him, you'll be cleaning out your cubicle before the day is over. ;)

Lucas can't seem to pronounce anything from the universe he created properly.

I tried to sit through Ep 1 the other day with Redlettermedias audio commentary on but couldn't do it. I had a thought, what if this new trilogy is great and awesome etc and in line with the OT , breaks avatars record, and SW is confirmed as a globally viable franchise..

Then if there was someone up in Disney management who cared enough about SW (tho it's unlikely) that they would want a New PT? Not the Pt we have now that are not only bad movies that stain the OT but ruin the plot as well (ep 5's reveal moment shock is gone, etc), but a whole new PT that would erase and replace eps 1,2,3 -- also called ep 1,2,3.. make the old PT non canon like never say never again or something. New pt focusing on different characters...it's a crazy thought is all. Maybe one fday fan films will get to that level, who knows... seeing those machinima videos esp the vader vs batman made me think of this.

There are people around these here parts who call that crazy talk... or maybe it's only when I say it... hiding under in the cupboard under the sink.

My view is there are lots of fans for who the PT is their entry point to the saga and while I think they are poopy-poop-poop I can understand why other people may incorrectly disagree with me.

So here's my thoughts.

Keep the big history making events the same but put them in the background (have the Jedi, the Separatists, the politics as background details) and create a new trilogy of films set the same time as the prequels that plop and make them not plop.

There is a whole lot of stuff happening in the background of (dare I say it?) Guardians of the Galaxy that we don't get to see much if at all. It doesn't distract us from an interesting group of characters, the fate of which is not predetermined or already made better in our own imaginations after years of thinking about Ben's memories of the Old Republic (or the Odd Republic if you watch the Ploppy Trilogy)

That's what I would like from the spin-offs. A spin off trilogy which acts as an alternative PT for those who want one but doesn't decanonise the original plop.

Spin-off Part 1: (Occurs between AOTC and ROTS). Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker is wounded in a distant battle and places himself in hibernation to survive, telepathically guiding a young scrap dealer and her scavenger crew to pilot his cruiser through enemy territory to reach the safety of the Republic.

Spin-off Part 2: (Occurs during the events of ROTS). The scrap dealer discovers affinity for the Force, perhaps as a side effect of her previous telepathic link with Skywalker. She joins the Republic as a pilot, and goes into battle just in time for Order 66. She saves her Jedi commander from the clones, but is without her ship, her old crew, and thinking Anakin is dead, she loses her abilities with the Force.

Spin-off Part 3: (Occurs after ROTS). Our hero and her wounded Jedi commander search for any remaining Jedi or their offspring, and the location of one of the Skywalker twins is discovered. In order to protect this secret, the remaining Jedi and a Separatist remnant join forces, and our hero faces the murderer of Anakin Skywalker, Darth Vader, in an aerial battle across the surface of an alien sun.

You're welcome.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Eliminate all the "celebrity cameos" (r2d2, c3po, chewie). Tell an origin story of the jedis. Do NOT center out around Anakin (making the pt an origins story for him completely demystifies  the character in the ot--never understood that decision). Eliminate the "stereotypical" behavior of some of the aliens (nute, anakins owner)-- like, why is that shit in a SW film. Make it low-key even like E4--that movie had no crazy cgi shit but was amazing, mainly because we cared about the characters.

I hope one day independent technology will progress top the point some ambitious filmmakers will take something like this on. Sw fan films are the most impressive of all fanfilms, hope someone "remakes" them

We're already there in regards to special effects. The trouble areas are always sets, performances and the writing.

Yeah I saw that. It was awesome for what it was but the sets looked like they were made of plywood and you could see the block of foam they used to cover up the giant opening on the back of his mask. That plus Batman lost, so there's that as well. =P

Buttman losing was the best part!

Assuming the PT was filmed in such a way as to make it look like it was made prior to the OT -- with Episode I made to look like it was filmed in 1945, for instance -- should it have been filmed in black and white or in the bright, garish Technicolor of that era?

I think black and white. You know, cheap serials and all that.

I typed "jedi rocs" into Google Images hoping to get pictures of rocs weilding lightsabers. Suffice it to say, the results I got were disappointing. =(

Question for those who've seen the entirety of the 2008 3D-animated The Clone Wars series:

Does Death Watch (or other Mandalorians) ever use more color in their armor, or am I stuck looking at a bunch of blue-and-grey Jango Fetts for the rest of the series?

I'm only halfway through Season 4 right now (just watched "A Friend in Need," which prompted my question), so please, no plot spoilers if possible.

Picked up the Black Series 6" figures Biker Scout and Speeder Bike at the weekend at last. At the beginning of next year Bossk gets a 6" release. It looks pretty awesome to me.

Really getting harder to resist picking up some of these. Almost caved in when I came across the white Boba Fett at Walgreens last month. Jabba would look nice on my shelf if I can find a spot for him.

I've yet to see a Slave Leia where the paint job on the face didn't make her look cross eyed or stoned.

I've decided to level up from figures to busts and statues. They just seem....classier to me. =P

I'm a little sad that I haven't gotten like eighteen comments about how awesome this story is :(
