Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD * — Page 67

^ I think the Falcon shot might be connected to the Boyega shot: the TIEs seem to be flying very close to the Falcon, perhaps in the very next frame one of the TIEs scrapes the Falcon, causing the TIE to crash land. The Boyega shot would then be about Boyega regaining consciousness (or just getting out of the TIE) after the crash. Maybe the ball droid finds him and notifies Ridley. This doesn't explain the imperial probe sounds but they maybe from an entirely different scene and added to that scene just because the sound is so recognizable and threatening. Maybe later on a probe droid comes looking for Boyega?

That's definitely an interesting take.  Perhaps he's unintentionally introduced to the good side.  This far out, you could be right on about the probe droid sounds added solely to tick a familiar memory.

Yea, Boyega seems disoriented, maybe just realizing he is stranded in the middle of nowhere. I guess I should take another look at the leaked concept art!

The other day I actually paused the teaser at the very last moment of the shot showing the back of the legs of the new Stormtroopers as they are about to disembark down the ramp - turns out that it indeed seems that it's just the colour of the lighting inside the transport they're waiting in that is reflecting the hue on their armour...as the precise moment I paused the end of the shot shows the legs of the Stormtroopers turning to gleaming white after all at that point, as the ramp door opens wider.  It's just that the shot ends abruptly at this point, too quickly for our eyes to catch this last frame.  So I'm satisfied that the blueish/teal look of those particular shots is just due to the colour of the lighting reflecting off their armour after all, rather than due to deliberate colour-meddling.

 This frame...

...incase anybody was wondering. Nice spot, thanks.

I wonder if they did that awful blue lighting on purpose, just to play with fans like us. ;)

Sorry if this has been posted already, but based on this concept art, it seems very likely that the soccer ball droid will be Ridley's character's sidekick.  We'll probably be seeing that little guy in the film, too.  Wonder if he'll be a Yoda type character?

 hall of fame.

only improvement I can think of is having the socer ball droid make high-pitched squeling voices that lucas likes and also having a thousand x-wings.

on another note, i've read that its possible the planet is not tattooine because there is only one sun?  you guys think thats the case or they just haven't digitally added a second sun yet?

I personally think that having a new droid rather than rehashing/shoehorning R2D2 and C3PO like in the prequels is a smart idea.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

Agreed. I no longer have any problem with the droid, so long as it isn't a completely silly, childish thing. Artoo and 3PO were a bit of a goofy pair, but they weren't Jar-Jar goofy, and I hope to see the same in the soccer ball.

The soccer ball droid doesn't bother me, either.  However, they've officially shown R2 in at least three difference instances.  Makes me wonder if he's going to have a larger than supporting role.  I guess it's to be assumed C3PO and R2 are still with one of the OT characters, but who knows after 30 years.

I had no problem telling that these were reflecting the blue lighting inside the transport.
I'm not saying that to sound snooty or whatever, but it was obviously not done to trick anybody.

I have a buddy who used to think the stormtroopers in the carbon freezing room in ESB were orange.

Lucas has said since the early days that Artoo and Threepio were intended to be in all the trilogies. One of the few things he actually hasn't contradicted or backpedaled himself on later.

That doesn't mean Anakin building Threepio was part of the plan all along of course. ;)

Since we're not seeing the front, there could be a center hub the head is attached to. I'm also making out seams in the "ball", so maybe this little droid can change it's body shape?

The problem with Artoo and Threepio in the PT wasn't that they were there, it was that the story was written and directed by someone who either never had the knack of writing and directing or lost it.

I don't think there is a single element of those films that felt like it wasn't just shoe-horned in rather than acting naturally.

Part of the compact with the audience is that the droids are the thread pulled through all the numbered episodes so I personally would rather Artoo was in the thick of the action than Rictoo (well he does roll ;-D ).

If the concept art is any indication, it looks after the head isn't resting on the main body as shown in the teaser.  It's hard to tell in the concept art, but it looks like it may have a neck.
