I went to Old Quebec for the first time today and enjoyed narrow streets designed for travelling on foot or by horse and cart, and stone buildings and fortifications dating back centuries. That's about the closest it gets to Europe in North America. While there, I went to Mass at the oldest Catholic church (well, it belongs to the oldest parish, anyway) in North America (north of Mexico). This year is its 350th anniversary. That seems like nothing compared to a lot of those churches in Europe, but it's a lot older than any I've been to before.

Tomorrow I'll be starting school in a language I barely speak. Should be fun.

On the other hand, now that I say that, I should not fail to note that Indy seems a lot more selfish in this film, caring more about "fortune and glory" than about people, while in Raiders he clearly has a more noble head on his shoulders, so perhaps there is a sign of some maturity, but other than that, I really have a hard time looking at it as a prequel as well.
This is the argument I heard, which I can see now.

If I was placed in charge of DC and Marvel Comics, these are the changes I would implement throughout both companies.

REBOOT THE ENTIRE LINE OF COMICS

All storylines currently in progress would be wrapped up, the worst-selling/extraneous titles would be cancelled, and the best-selling figurehead titles would receive complete and total reboots, starting over with brand new issue #1s. The slate would be wiped completely clean; there would be absolutely no "have my cake and eat it too"-styled reboots ala Crisis on Infinite Earths or Nu52.

THE CHARACTERS WOULD AGE AND EVOLVE IN REAL TIME

No more compressing decades worth of storylines, sliding the timeline, or utilizing cosmic resets to preserve the status quo and keep the characters static while the world(s) around them changes. One year of storylines in the real world would approximate one year of events in-universe -- no exceptions. As the readers age, start careers, get married, have children, and eventually die, so to will the characters in the books (The mortal ones with average human lifespans, anyway.).

LIMIT THE NUMBER OF TITLES FOR ANY SPECIFIC SUPERHERO

So that means Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, the X-Men, etc. only get one or two titles each; no more three-five-seven-nine+ titles for anyone.

NO MORE SHARED UNIVERSE(S)

Basically, each superhero would exist in his/her title as if s/he was the only superhero in existence; allusions to other superheroes in other titles would be done in only the vaguest of ways, and guest appearances/crossovers would be rare and more-or-less considered out of continuity.

ALL MAIN TITLES WOULD BE WRITTEN FOR AN ALL-AGES AUDIENCE

Brutal violence, gore, sex, and profanity would no longer be allowed. All primary superhero titles would be written so as to appeal to adults and children both. All the R-and-X-rated stuff is to be reserved for miniseries published outside of the main titles.

NO MORE "WRITING FOR THE TRADE"

Character and story arcs can go on indefinately, but specific storylines must be resolved within one-to-four issues; no more decompression.

CROSSOVER EVENTS WOULD BE RARE

There would be no more of this annual "events that shake the world/galaxy/universe/multiverse" crap. Events would be very rare events --one every seven-to-ten years or so. Furthermore, events would be written so as to be standalone miniseries; there would be no tie-in miniseries/storylines or interference with the main titles.

IF A MAJOR/SUPPORTING CHARACTER IS TO DIE, IT MUST BE WITH DIGNITY

Deaths likes this one

 photo Crisis_on_Inf_Earths_TPB_jxsi-DC-2.jpg

are all well and good when used sparingly, but deaths like this one

are completely unacceptable and absolutely anathema.

NO OVERPOWERING CHARACTERS

Characters must have limitations so that they can be reasonably challenged. In other words, Superman can't move planets or travel at/past the speed of light, Wolverine can't regenerate from atomic explosions, Batman can't beat everyone with enough prep time, etc.

I love all these ideas!  make comics fun and dramatic while making them for kids again.

Oh and while dealing with marvel would you please undo One More day and bring back Spider-Girl,I really like her and can't stand that she was wiped from the time line.

I don't know if any of you guys have ever been completely immersed in a new language for an extended period of time, but it is exhausting. My brain is working overtime trying to figure out what my teachers are saying, and I'm usually tired by the time school ends, shortly after 4:00 (although yesterday I was dead tired by 2:00). And that's with 10+ hour sleeps every night.

When I moved to the Netherlands, I could only say "Ik ben Ray" (I am Ray).
I found even just hanging out at bars would make me drowsy from trying to listen to what everyone was saying.
But immersing yourself in the language and culture is the best way to learn it. Good luck!

And how do you get 10+ hours of sleep every night!?

I get that much sleep because I have no homework (well, not much) because it's only the first week of school, and no job. :P

I assume you're talking about the May "Mayday" Parker Spider-Girl, right? If so, then she wasn't actually wiped from existence 'cause she exists on another Earth seperate from the main Marvel Universe. She, her family, and her friends continue to exist as they are unaffected by the stupid "One More Day" fiasco

http://marvel.wikia.com/Earth-982

But yeah, I'd preserve the Peter/Mary Jane marriage and have their daughter live to become Spider-Girl in the future. I'd also completely re-do the Clone Saga to get rid of all the extraneous Jackal/Traveller/Spider-Skeleton/Norman Osborn junk and give Ben Reilly a more dignified send-off.

 Oh really?

Yes I am talking about MayDay,I read comics back in the day and I am now collecting them all and really enjoying them. One reason I hate One more day so much beyond it being stupid is that it seemed to wipe her from the time line.

See comics are confusing!:)  I have been reading them all my life and I didn't know that.  I just figured that when the marriage was broken up the daughter would never have existed, silly me.

I am liking your ideas more and more including your end to the Clone Saga.

Watching movies at 25fps is a real drag and I don't know how everyone in Europe does it. Totally destroys the sound design. Seriously, try watching a musical with everything pitched up as a result. Or even the opening to Apocalypse Now. I will never claim to have perfect pitch but it's distracting as all hell.

This is what I get for taking film studies abroad. *sigh*

Where you at bkev? I'm from PAL country and I can't watch PAL DVDs any more (except with VLC at 0.96 speed). I never noticed it growing up, but these days when I am familiar with the real pitch of certain people's voices (Mark Hamill for one), the speedup becomes almost intolerable. I'm glad I only ever bought one music DVD.

PAL DVDs that have corrected pitches but still obviously play at 25fps are worse in my opinion.

So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

It messes with cartoons too.

I was only able to get most of the classic Disney cartoon shorts by ordering them from the UK and having the sound messed with gets on my nerves.

DISNEY THESE ARE ALL TIME CLASSICS PLEASE RELEASE THEM IN THE US AT A DECENT PRICE!!!

There are some dubs that have the M&E track playing with the 4% speedup but the voices are recorded at normal speed. They sound really weird when you slow them down. There's also this awful Italian King Kong vs. Godzilla DVD that speeds the movie up so much it only runs 72 minutes. I kid you not. The audio is unlistenable.

It's funny how alien fish-keeping is to the Quebecois (and the South Americans). It just isn't a thing here. People always assume I mean angling when I list it as one of my hobbies. It's easy to see why it's a foreign idea to the South American kids--half the fish come from where they live.

The group of immigrants here is very different than what I'm used to. About half are from South or Central America and the rest are mostly from Africa. There are very few people from the Middle East, India, or African countries like Nigeria, unlike in Alberta, where most immigrants are from there.

I can't help but wonder how Batman '89 would have turned out if this guy

had played the Joker throughout the entire movie. Physically, he's more like the character from the comics than Nicholson was.
