Is this series watchable for an adult who never encountered it as a child? I mean, I'll watch the old TMNT series from the late 80's-early 90's, but it's great for reasons rooted in nostalgia. I don't know if I could sit down and get into it otherwise.

Meh.

It is interesting to watch for historical purposes.  And to check out the production design, vehicles, and character designs. The plot is somewhat interesting.  Especially the first 4 episodes.

But the screenplay is very Saturday Morning-ish. The dialog can really dial up the corny to 11.  Especially the C3P0 slapstick.

Author

Thank you, Ted. I'll check out those first four episodes, at least. :)

Keep in mind I have probably watched each episode 30+ times while putting this set together.  So my opinion will probably be a little skewed.  Things that got on my nerves probably wouldn't even come up on most people's radar.

Author

I enjoy them for the historical aspects.

That said, the only ones I'm *sure* that I've watched are the eight episodes that formed the edit-them-together-and-call-them-movies DVDs from years ago.

I keep meaning to watch the others, to experience them for good and ill, but things keep getting in the way. One of too many things that I *have* instead of *enjoy*.

HOWEVER, I will make sure that I watch these. I'm sure I have a copy, and for the video quality they do deserve that at the very least.

Thanks, Ted. I've been looking for these in good quality for more than a decade and glad someone took the time to do these right. I appreciate the hard work.

Wow, I thought this project had been shelved a long time ago so I neglected to call back. Unknown to me it was flourishing. So it is a very pleasant surprise for me to call back to the forum and see the restoration has been completed. I now have a lot of catching up to do. BTW, I vaguely recall donating some sound for one of the episodes but not sure if it was ever used? No skin off my nose if it was not, but it would be good to know if it was of some help to the project.

I have a question about transferring these to DVD. The software I have will not allow me to retain the original 640 X 480 when transferring MP4 to VOB files. Instead they all show only two choices 720 X 480 (4:3) NTSC or 720 X 576 (4:3) PAL. Is there any way to retain the original 640 X 480 while transferring to NTSC for use on a DVD player? Does it matter if the size is changed to 720 X 480 or will the resulting video look distorted? Or am I totally missing something???

Your player will always read the correct aspect ratio from the file header. Meaning if the AR will be set to 4:3 your DVD player will show the picture as 4:3 independently from the actual dimensions of the video.

Thanks for the heads up. I thought that may be the case but was not sure. So if I just use the default setting "720 X 480 (4:3) NTSC" it will turn out okay?

I am working on some dvd artwork for Ted's Version 1.0, having just converted the mp4s to dvd.

I am doing this cover mainly for myself. I'm guessing the demand will not be large enough to warrant putting it up on MySpleen in any case.

Would anyone have a really nice, clear, hi res copy of this image? I wish to use the image at right for the front cover.

I'd love to see a clearer copy.

It is the insert on some of the official Droids release dvds (Portuguese, Spanish and French versions only??). It is different to the insert in my U.S. version, which has been cropped badly. Would be great if someone has a copy.

As I said before, I'm really only doing this for myself to house Ted's Version 1.0, otherwise blank disks tend to get lost in the chaos of my collection.

By the way, I also found this on my hard drive. I have no idea where I got it from now. I recall I found it while doing a Google search some years ago. Would be great to see a good clear image of this original sale poster. It could be added to the PDFs in Video Collector's PAL version.

Here is a reduced version of what I've done so far. Basically just a reworking of Video Collector's artwork for Droids 1, so all credits go to VC really.

P5, I am really not okay with this. As a custom cover designer I generally frown upon people cannibalizing my work.

Feel free to make such modifications for yourself, but please refrain from distributing them.

Not much I can really do about it if you persist, but I just wanted to let my feelings on the matter be known.

*smiling at the irony* Haha!! ;-) I thought this whole forum operated on the premise that fan art is intended as a compliment to the original artists. We always assume of course that the original artists will see it that way and not as a stolen and cannibalized manipulation.

please refrain from distributing them.

*sigh* No intention whatsoever and now I know your feelings, not at all. I guess I was just trying to show others what I was talking about re the front cover and need for a clearer image, which is why I posted up a HIGHLY reduced image which was useless to anyone who may have downloaded it. And "far be it for me" to distribute something that isn't mine. Heaven forbid! ;-)

Not much I can really do about it if you persist.

I'm taking that gem with me all the way to the summit of Mt Everest and back. :-)

It is a neat image. Is there a place where your originals are displayed?

Actually, the intended question is this: do you mind if people use your custom covers unmodified? Because if you're willing then I'd love to see some of your work. I'll be doing my own conversion of the episodes to DVD just because it feels somehow more real.

VC did a SUPERB job on the dvd PAL transfers and the reformatting of the old artwork to suit dvd cover size. The covers look very fresh, slick and professional. The whole set is up in the usual place. Obviously they have been put there for people to use. But I would suggest that apart from seeding, don't distribute them or advertise the fact you intend to modify the covers in any way... or you might get into trouble like yours truly did. :-)

Naturally I am okay with the covers being used in their original state. I made them and distributed them with the Droids PAL preservation set for that very purpose. What point5 fails to see is that it doesn't naturally follow that I should be okay with them being changed and used for other things.

I recognize the irony in claiming ownership of a copy of someone else's design, but they represent a huge amount of work on my part and I would rather not have anyone piggy-backing on my efforts.

And in case it wasn't clear, I have no problem with people modifying them to their personal requirements for their personal use. I only ask that they don't proliferate such modified versions, which I thought point5 had the intention of doing.

As to p5's unwarranted snarky remarks alluding to me not being in tune with the open sharing mentality of this forum, I find them very hurtful. I have contributed a number of projects to the community: One vintage camcorded bootleg of the original theatrical screening of Return of the Jedi, one unique telecined bootleg of the original Empire Strikes Back (Both under the "Theater Preservation" moniker.) I also provided the raw captures for Pittrek's Ewoks animated series preservation, as well as sharing a complete set of Droids episodes that I captured from my UK tapes. And there are also several sets of Star Wars covers that I share freely. I feel I have contributed in no small way to this community.

I've been doing custom covers for the last three years, and Star Wars covers represent just a tiny fraction of my portfolio. I don't have a central depository of all my work, but I have several Star Wars-related covers available to share in the HD Custom Cover art thread on this very forum. For the rest of my output I refer to the custom cover art thread on the Blu-ray forum, posted under the name of "Nissen".

P5, the more I read your post the more condescending and spiteful it seems.

However, irony of ironies I actually have a copy of the cover you asked about, and have made a high-rez scan of it which I have PM-ed you a link to. Now, please refrain from ever speaking to me again, as I find you most unpleasant.

 Hi g-force,

I did some searching and it turns out this was an actual sale's poster and is up on another Star Wars forum. The image is not hidden for "members only" but showing up for public viewing. I now have the full size image, but am reluctant to post it up in case someone from the other forum accuses me of stealing it. ;-) You may be right about the original being on the back of a comic book. That does sound right.

George Lucas and the staff of Lucasfilm must be permanently stooped with all the piggy backing they have had to endure from us fans over the decades.

Seriously though, point taken bro'. Chill. You are a serious artist and a perfectionist and I totally get and respect that.

I am beginning to see that this was all just a big and very silly misunderstanding that got out of hand really fast. It probably relates more to our cultural differences than anything else.

VC you seem to forget that I greatly admire your work. I had intended using your work as a compliment and tribute to you. I meant no offense by it. Basically my heart was in the right place and I should not have surprised you without properly consulting you about it first. I still praise you highly and always will. Without you and people like you these forums would be a much poorer place.

I'm willing to get in my Tardis and back peddle through time a bit. Let's forget this unfortunate and ridiculous incident ever took place shall we? I will not mention Droids cover art on these forums ever again. I promise!!
