I tried watching a few things (including SW) with rifftrax and I thought 90% of the jokes were pretty bad. It only made me chuckle a bit like once every 10 minutes. I still have to try watching the Holiday Special with riffrax though, there's so much comic potential, that it could be good.

I've never attempted to correct an almost completely red-shifted frame before, so the procedure was to throw everything I could at it in Photoshop. Curves, Channel Mixer, Hue/Saturation, and especially Color Balance adjusting the Red/Cyan. I also remember having to convert it to black and white and layer that on top since much of the highlight detail is entirely chromatic.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

RiffTrax with good movies is hit or miss. RiffTrax with bad movies is priceless (see: The Happening, Twilight Saga, Birdemic: Shock and Terror)

 I've only ever seen the live shows broadcast by satellite to theaters, and usually end up pretty sore from laughing so hard. Especially Night of the Living Dead and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. The 1998 Godzilla was almost too big and bloated for them to conquer though.

Some of the shorts they've done are as good as any riffed on MST3K.

My general approach is R-G-B histogram manipulation (low-high adjusts to produce known blacks & whites, and gamma adjusts to produce known greys), which wasn't working well with this faded film clip that was also blown-out in the photo (lots of RED artifacts all over, like ants).

Checking the auction's additional photos, I found one where the film & sprocket holes were still clearly delineated (ergo, no blown-out in the photo). That one was fairly simple to de-fade, but by eye (I had no DVD snapshot handy as a proper color target).

 BTW, this is what resulted from that better (non-blownout) clip. Sometimes viewing the R-G-B separations can help to show what's needed (RED channel is always the major culprit):

Thanks! If you'd like to test it for yourself, here are the numbers for the Histogram Adjustment. BTW, this is a "technique in development". So, following the previous overview of this procedure, some de-fades work like magic and some work like you're doing all the work.  :)

Since I've come to see Jabba as the SW equivalent of Dune's Baron Harkonnen, I feel that Jabba's sexual preference for humanoid women is only indicative of his own orientation and not that of other Hutts; most other Hutts would probably find the idea of copulating with humanoids disgusting.

So I've been rummaging through some of my old junk today and stumbled upon the dust cover for the novelization of The Phantom Menace. I thought I'd share the blurb I found on one of the folds:

I don't remember much, having not read it since I was fifteen, but I do remember it introduced Anakin right out of the gate in a podrace with Sebulba. There was a bit more explanation of character motivation as well. The best part was that while reading it, I wasn't aware of any bad acting or cringe-worthy accents, so for that alone it's better than the film.

That might have have been a better introduction to him than we ultimately got. Wonder if Brooks worked from an earlier draft of the script?

The Disney-era Star Wars really seems to be much more open.  From the director to the cast and crew, the culture of the reborn Star Wars is to be very engaged with the public.  As fans, we're part of Star Wars again.  It's not someone ruling from on high, telling us what we'll accept. This time around we're being included in their world.

Case in point;  The cast taking the Ice Bucket Challenge;

If Star Wars was reality Jar Jar would have his own reality TV show, there would be a grade school class called midi-chlorians and you, and the Imperial March would be played before all sporting events.
