Ok, in regards to the real world, I decided it would be less confusing if fans (including myself) only need to download the Despecialized Edition and not bother with all those confusing .srts (they confused me). So, I decided to convert the MKV file into an AVI file. I then uploaded it on YouTube.com, but Fox almost immediately blocked it on copyright grounds. Then, I uploaded it on archive.org.

So you can watch the Despecialized Edition at:           * DELETED *

For some reason, I can't stream the video (as of this writing). But fans can still download it. No need to download all the confusing stuff (well, to me, it was confusing) that I mentioned above.

 Dude. What the hell.

No way Harmy gave permission for any of this.

If he did, I'll eat my hat. With mustard.

No, I did not give permission and I'd like it to be taken down immediately - for one, there's a good reason for the ways to download this to be somewhat cryptic and also, I definitely don't support my work being released in such terrible, awful, incredibly low (I could continue with the  adjectives of horribleness) quality - and either way, the link should definitely not be posted here - it's against forum rules!

And uploading this to youtube is also a terrible idea!

And I don't know what you find so confusing about the srt files, they are just subtitles, so if you don't need subtitles, you can simply ignore them altogether.

Yes, sir. I think this Despecialized Edition is going to work out fine. I, uh, was also thinking about our agreement about preserving the original mix forever. And if this Despecialized Edition does work out, I want it to replace the original camera negative this year.

Yeah, looking at the thumbnails on the archive.org site it looks like it was transcoded hastily with a free program as some of them have what looks like the "this is a free version" watermark in the middle of the image!!

This doesn't fit with a misguided fan if you ask me.

Someone legitimately trying to get themselves and others a good copy of this would not go and use a transcoder with a watermark every 5 mins......

Please delete this at once, before you get someone in trouble.

Oh and that is an awful way to post the film any way.  I wouldn't download a one hour tv show that's file was only 1.2 gigs, how did you fit an inter film in that file.  It will be so compressed it will look like an NES game.  What is the point of restoring a film only to release it in a format where you can't see anything?!

Please delete that link and take the file off of Archive.org.  I don't want to see Harmy or this website get into trouble.

You know what the funniest part of all is?

After having made such a fuss about only the 35mm stereo mix being the original version, and saying so in the description of the upload . . . the only audio track that video contains is the 70mm version.

*facepalm*

Epic Fail on so many levels . . .

Maybe prematurely but just doesn't sit right

Brand new user only a handful of posts (1,2), all of which are somewhat pointed about the same audio provenance issue.

And then a hastily done recode with watermarks uploaded to youtube of all places?! Just not seeing how anyone could go through that trouble thinking it was all good....especially since they had to go to demonoid or spleen to get it in the first place.....

I noticed that they were doing that, and winced every time I saw it.

I know this is off-topic, but consider that making things easier for people isn't always a good solution.

Let me get this straight. You (Ebaillargeon82) took the despecialized version, compressed it to a 1.2 GB avi, removed all audio tracks except the 70mm mix, despite your preference for the 35mm stereo mix, watermarked it, and uploaded it to archive.org and YouTube.

What the blank made you think you would get away with this? Are you trying to get Harmy in trouble? Also, I'm sure the official 97se VCDs look better than this crap, and they weren't that much bigger in size. Can anyone confirm this theory?

Harmys despecialized is a masterpiece for what it attempts to do. What you did could possibly bring it to the ground. I hope you're happy, because I'm not.

Is there a way to request that the archive upload be deleted?

mmm... Still, if one just sent an email saying "somebody just uploaded STAR WARS on your servers" I think they'd take it down immediately.

I'd say the less attention the better.  So if Mr. Doesn'tUnderstandSubtitles could just take down his horribly ill conceived upload, that would be for the best.  Escalating things should be avoided if possible.
