At least one British tabloid is saying Carrie's daughter is will play Leia in a flashback scene,  hair-buns and all. Make of this what you will.

For sure it is a dumb rumor, but if it was true, that would be very un-Star Warsy to have a flashback scene, especially if they are trying to stay close to the style of the OT.

I don't like the idea of her playing Leia in a flashback for the sole reason that Billie Lourd just doesn't look that much like her mother. So unless they're planning on using a lot of prosthetics to change her appearance, I'd rather they avoid flashbacks altogether.

Flashbacks are not a Star Wars thing at all.

Well, so far the tabloids have been a great way to determine what is definitely not happening at all.

If she's in it, a daughter is far more likely. Or just an extra/alien of some sort like Lucas's daughter.

That would go along with what starwars7news.com is reporting.

Ordinarily I'd discount the flashback idea as a rumor, but wasn't there a set photo showing that Abrams and company have actually recreated the burning Lars homestead from ANH?

We might actually be in for multiple flashbacks here. Which is kind of weird, because it's so unlike Lucas's signature cinema verité style. It puts me more in mind of the Leigh Brackett draft of ESB, which uses stuff like text captions introducing new planets, and trippy Force-visions when Luke and Vader duel.

Yep, I agree with you emanswfan. Your reasoning is exactly why I don't think they would.

But IF they do a flashback, it better be integral to the story and they better either use mo-cap or the same technology that was used to make that Dove Chocolate commercial with Audrey Hepburn (whichever would give the best result). Carrie's daughter does not look like a younger Leia and prosthetics are a no-go in this case.

Unless they're afraid people will fall asleep, really, it would work just as well to have Leia tell the back story (from her point of view) like how Obi-Wan did for Luke. Then, if needed, just have Carrie's daughter have a small "fun and ironic" cameo as a slave for someone someplace.

Wishlist Of Ideas/Suggestions For Improving ROTJ

Not a huge fan of flashback in movies in general, so hopefully it's just a rumor.

Unless, they weren't flashbacks but results of traveling through a wormhole into an earlier period of time, altering the timeline as we knew it, and..,oh wait Abrams already did that.

That would be horrible if it was unless it resulted in George's version of the PT never existing and that the OUT, and the new trilogy being part of this altered timeline.

Would be redundant for JJ, LOL. Though Jar-Jar would die, so maybe it works out.  ;)

Time travel has never been part of the SW universe, (not sure about the EU) except for Luke's line to Threepio, and that was probably a joke.

"Not unless you can alter time, speed up the harvest or teleport me off this rock."

I would hope they don't fall back on it now.

I will say that if we do see flashbacks in the new film, it would likely be dragging the franchise into a more modern style of filmmaking.

Remember the LOTR trilogy? That had quite a few flashbacks. For instance, when Elrond says that he watched in horror, three thousand years ago, as Isildur took the One Ring for his own, we don't just hear him tell it, we see it happen before our eyes even as he's speaking. We leap backward three thousand years and forward again, seamlessly, all in the matter of a few seconds.

The emphasis in modern blockbuster films is on showing the audience what happened in the past or "off-screen," as opposed to just telling them. The problem with this is that it's a very arty technique. As such, it conflicts with the previous SW "house style" of fly-on-the-wall documentary-style filmmaking, whose whole goal is to make you forget there's a director behind the camera.

I don't think it would be a huge departure from the padme visions in Episode 3 if young Leia is seen in that sort of context, "the future, the past, old friends long gone" etc.

The prequels added dream sequences and voices heard through the force that were a departure from the style of the OT. Flashbacks would be the same way although it would be better without them. I don't have a problem with them, really, as long as they serve the story and they are incorporated well into the film.

Time travel's shown up a few times in the EU.

While I don't mind the idea of time travel occurring in the SW Universe -- and certainly wouldn't mind seeing it explored in one of the spinoff films -- I don't think it should be featured in the ST itself.

Ah, so he did in fact "talk" about it without literally talking about it.

This isn't the first we've heard about stormtroopers, either. The previous rumor was of chrome-armored troopers and not the white uniforms from the OT.

Smith nodding with a big smile on his face makes me wonder which version he actually saw.

I'm confused by this quote: “I’m really excited and you know, people keep saying that I liked the last trilogy and I did. I liked 1, 2 and 3. But I liked them as an adult, when I watched them they didn’t give me the same feeling I had when I was seven watching them for the first time and that’s fine."

Is referring to the OT as the last trilogy?  The wording is confusing.  I can't tell if he's talking about the OT or PT and then talks about liking them as an adult, but didn't have the same feeling when he first saw them?  Doesn't really matter in the long run, but it just confused me.

I wonder what made him cry specifically?  The Falcon set perhaps?

So if Stormtroopers are in it, then the Empire is still the opposition in the ST (Right?). What would make more sense?

1. Quick Endor party but the war with the Empire still rages 20 years later.

or

2. VE day party, after which peace reigned for 20 years but now the Empire are back.

I don't think I ever fully decided which of those two senarios, the end of ROTJ meant. Obviously after 1997 the canon went for number 2 but f*ck what the SE said ;-)

Kevin Smith has some kind of "in" with Lucasfilm.  He got to see ROTS at a preview screening also.

You'd think after 30 years (assuming the Empire still exists) they would have new and improved Stormtrooper uniforms.  Especially since the previous uniforms seemed to be no match to those little Ewoks and blasters. :-)

I'm sure the trooper armor will reflect it's lineage, but also 30 years of change. If they went back to McQuarrie's original designs, I might cry out of joy too!
