Hello everyone!

I saw the 11-minute 'making of' on Youtube and found the links for the SW DE on tehparadox.  Seems like I'm only 1 part away from seeing this magic in full form, but my unarchiving software (Mac) is saying that part 81 is corrupt.  The DL link says the file is 91.5MB but the DL file is 96MB.

I know a lot of people have successfully DL'd this movie, so I'm hoping someone has some thoughts on what's gone wrong with my attempt.  Any help would be appreciated!

I've only gotten it via torrent (see here) so not sure about the multi-part archives.

I registered for that before I found the links in tehparadox.  Frankly, I don't really understand how that invite process works.  I've made the request but I don't understand why I need to be invited to a torrent or how the information comes to me if they accept it.  Since you've gotten it that way, would you mind explaining?

PM inbound to keep the thread on topic

You'll be watching soon enough :)

At risk of derailing the thread, I'd love to piggyback off that...

A similar thing happened in the last page(s) of Harmy's ROTJ thread.
Did you try DL'ing that one part again?

Some write 91.5MB to mean 91.5 MiB or 91.5 x 1,048,576 = 95,944,704 bytes.
which round up to 96MB

I did DL a second time with the same result, unfortunately.  Thanks for the math; I'm horrible at that!  :)

I do get an ISO file, but it won't open.

What are you trying to open it with?

Harmy, happy 12K posts, and thanks for this effort. Does this match the number of hours you've put into this one?

:)

I think appropriately, the 12,000th post was about how to download ;)

Congratulations Harmy! I hope you take some satisfaction in the fact you have provided enjoyment for many many people. I'm not trying to derail the thread or break any rules, but I'm trying to figure out what would be the easiest way to get this to play on my living room tv. Can an Xbox 360/Xbox one play the file off an external media drive? If not, can I somehow stream it to my tv? Or do I need to track down a blu-ray burner? Sorry if this is in the wrong thread. Any help would be hot.

The xbox one doesn't work with AVCHD, or even BD-R movies, because Microsoft are  bunch of tools.

It doesn't play MKV, but most things don't. I *think* you would need to convert to MP4 container.

But yes, another thread in another section would be ideal. The answer you end up getting will apply to any video release.

The part81 which I DL'd (and UL'd to usenet) is 95,967,052 bytes.
ISO should be 8,484,552,704 bytes.

Do try the sort-by-size as mentioned in the ROTJ thread.
There's a slight chance an earlier part could be incomplete,
and your archive software not noticing until it reach the end,
since the last part81 contains the ISO's CRC32 checksum.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Is there/will there be an official Chewtobacca DVD5 for 2.5?

Author
Time

Oh, I totally forgot about that. It may be easier if Chewtobacca sent me the script to convert it to DVD5 myself - that way it can be sourced from the lossless master and with the new computer it should be done in a jiffy.

I'm sorry, Harmy, I didn't mean to sidetrack the thread.  Since you're asking... I had DL'd almost all parts directly from Multiupload, but some parts weren't available that way; I had to DL some parts from others sites.  For some reason, those parts didn't have exactly the same name structure, and it was throwing off the Unrar process, calling the extraction "corrupt".  Once I renamed those handful of files to the predominant filename structure, everything went through fine, and I now have a working ISO!  Wooo HOOOO!

I thank you very much for this awesome work!  I can't wait to watch this!

What's exactly the difference between the Despecialized Edition and the Revised one done by Adywan?

Author
Time

Revisited is a fan edit. Despecialized edition is a re-creation of the theatrical edit.

Author
Time

Don't they both add better picture quality and a look that makes both editions feel more "modern"? Which version would you recommend?

Author

Adywan's is more of a reimagining. He's in a way going beyond Lucas, and fixing all the things that he and other ans have found to be wrong, including filming custom material, making new effects, etc. It's an awesome project, and very interesting, but not my cup of tea as far as a "go-to" version of the film.

Harmy's is trying to get as close to a blu-ray quality version of the theatrical release as possible. So, in a way, they're quite opposite from one another. But the SEs are like the South Pole. No matter what direction you step from it, things are looking up.

The Despecialized is a fan recreation of the original theatrical experience using the Blu-ray as a source ("what the original versions were").

Revisited is a fan edit of the Special Editions ("what the Special Editions should have been")

Cliff's Notes:

  1. Despecialized: A close approximation to how the film looked in 1977.

  2. Revisited: A more special version of the Special Edition.

Harmy despecializes; Adywan specializes.

Both have exceptional picture quality, but only Adywan's Revisited has a "more modern" look.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Interesting, would you say that both versions are each at the top of their games when it comes to a closer version of what the originals looked like and how the specials should have been respectively?

By any chance, does anyone still have the multiupload links for SW v2.5 AVCHD and/or MKV loaded into JDownloader? It seems multiupload is down but all the separate links to the other servers should still work but they cannot be got from the multiupload links, so if someone had them loaded in JDownloader, they could make a DLC out of them and save me a re-upload, which would have to be to uloz.to.

So appreciative of your work on this and Empire. By any chance, do you have an idea of when you'll get to creating a SL Blu-Ray with menus?

@michaeldc: I got a bit sidetracked with the BD release - I'm now thinking about waiting until all three v2.5s are done and then do the whole trilogy and make the intended bonus disc for the whole trilogy as well and release the whole thing as one awesome trilogy package.

That makes for a longer wait, but if that's the way the cookie crumbles....

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

First of all - thanks to Harmy!

Secondly, I'm having trouble getting an AVCHD v2.5 iso file that works.  I downloaded all of the parts for v2.5 AVCHD with JDownloader Beta2 and used JDownloader to extract the RARs.  It seemed to extract the .iso, .mds, and .txt file without a problem.  The file size of the .iso looks correct.

However, when I try to open the .iso in VLC, it doesn't play.  Likewise, when I burn it to a DVD-DL with imgburn, it won't play in my PS3, nor can I even look at the data on it from my PC's DVD drive (it just spins the drive).  Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?  Thanks in advance!

Can you open the .iso in 7zip?

I just tried and the answer is no.  I get an error "Can not open file as archive."

Any idea what isn't working?  I downloaded the files two different times and have ended up with the same result.  I must be doing something wrong.
