Nearly all the images in that link are all the traditional OT R2 units painted in different colours,....no design to indicate an evolution of previous models, like what is being done in the new film & in Rebels

In Rebels Chopper is a hodgepodge of different droid parts.

I have serious doubts about that mouse eared fellow though. ;)

Perhaps that mouse eared fellow IS "the ancient fear" ;)

Jokes aside, people can have fun photoshopping that image, but I hope real pictures of Mark/Luke in full costume don't get leaked. The first time I'd like to see him is in motion. At the very earliest, possibly a short teaser trailer, where maybe we hear him say a monologue and then we see a bearded figure in a hood and cloak within the shadows igniting a green lightsaber (in homage to the ROTJ deleted scene) *chills*

It wouldn't surprise me if we get a teaser by Christmas.

Sad to say, if sites like TMZ are paying cash for photos, someone will smuggle a spy camera in their thermal exhaust port just to get a photo of the cast in costume. ;)

I certainly hope they don't stick him in brown desert hermit bathrobes. Stick with the ROTJ look or go with something new, just don't continue the stupid "Jedi dress like moisture farmers" BS.

Maybe that is Marks costume......a more relaxed lounging casual Jedi

The trousers look like black versions of the outfit he wore in ESB lots of handy pockets for a Jedi Master but he will have to lose that shirt unless he wants to be called LucaSkywalker from now on :-D

Wasn't Anakin wearing those same desert robes at the end of ROTJ?  Why would he be wearing them?

While I've never been that fussed about the whole Jedi robes thing (Just the cheap-fake-clean-plasticy-tabard-awful-arrgghh *deep breath* look they had in the PT) I be stoked to see Luke still wearing black like in ROTJ.

I'd imagine Luke would wear something very similar to what he wore in ROTJ for VII, but we'll see.

Since they seem to still be using some old concept arts by McQuarrie (an excellent strategy), I wonder if we'll see someone dressed as the original protagonist concept seen here:

I think I would actually be stoked if they did make use of it for a main character.

Does anybody know if Han, Leia and Luke will be in Ep8&9?

I prefer to think he took on that appearance because he knew Luke associated it with Ben, and wanting to appear as benign and non-threatening to his son as possible, choose to appear to Luke in that form even though he never wore those clothes in life.

I hope not. Pass the Bothan from one generation to another I say.

If you look at the OT you have Vader, Ben, Beru, Owen, Threepio, Tarkin, Artoo, Yoda Mon Mothma and Palpatine definitely from the previous generation.

Even if the PT hadn't happen you could imagine them in an unmade history of the same universe.

Of those Owen, Beru, Tarkin, Ben (sort of) were taken out in the first film.

Yoda is 're'introduced in the second film and taken out in the third.

Mon Mothma plays like a cameo from an important character from the past and Palpatine (like Jabba) goes from being an unseen reference to a growing presence which is fully revealed in the final film.

I can imagine the OT characters coming in and out of ST in a similar fashion with only the droids being in every single film.

In this respect I'm not that put out if some of the OT cast (Lando, Wedge) aren't in Episode VII as they could end up doing a Mon Mothma and cameoing in Episode IX.

I agree with this. If they don't drop the big three entirely, more and more diminishing roles is fine with me.

My hope is you could watch the ST without watching the OT and feel about Leia and Chewie the way OT viewers felt about Ben and Yoda only Leia is paid less and is more happy to be there :-D

This is also my hope of an eventual reworking of the PT.

Each trilogy should work on it's own and in concert with the others.

I would like to throw in a reminder here that the various scripts for SW 1977 actually specify that Jedi do wear robes of some sort, and that black robes are reserved for Sith Lords. Somehow the idea has come up that "the Jedi uniform" is actually the all-black costume Luke wore in ROTJ: an idea that really only dates to the making of ROTJ (Marvel Comics aside) and wasn't in full force even then.

I frankly suspect that the TPM concept art featuring Jedi in all-black outfits looks so cool to so many fans that it's become a piece of retrospective alternate-universe canon or something. (Which I can totally understand--TPM is a terrible movie but the concept artists for it cranked out some amazing stuff.)

Even if that's true, shouldn't Luke's Jedi be different from Yoda's? It's a new master with new experiences. And just because the Jedi were supposed to have robes doesn't mean that they were supposed to dress like Tatooinians.

I frankly have no problem with Jedi in general wearing robes if the robes in question are basically just casual wear and vary in appearance between different Jedi. The whole PT scenario, though, just gets on my nerves.

The prequel Jedi robes may be extremely ugly but I'm pretty sure that (aside from the higher cut required for wire-fu) they were essentially what Lucas envisioned for the Jedi uniform when he made SW 1977.

ROTJ was the film that really introduced darker-colored, more "utilitarian" clothing to the Jedi, and then only in Luke's costume. The TPM concept artists initially ran with this idea--Doug Chiang lobbied to have Jedi in black body armor--but ultimately this lost out to the "just do it like ANH" idea.

I would argue that the confusion between Tatooine desert clothing and Jedi robes goes back to the original film. After all, Ralph McQuarrie on SW 1977 was told to put Ben Kenobi in a "Japanese kimono" apparently because it was the costume of a Jedi, and the final cut of Alec Guinness's robe is almost exactly that, in weathered white fabric with a brown undershirt.

On the other hand, John Mollo did draw concept art of Obi-Wan in a more typical Tatooine-style farmer outfit with a Japanese shirt, a vest and leg puttees, much akin to what he drew Luke wearing. This ultimately wasn't used.

(Mollo also put in a nice detail on his drawings of Ben's Jedi cloak that I liked very much: a silver tassel on the point of the hood.)

I never minded the Jedi robes and I thought some of them looked pretty good (the highlights being Kenobi and Anakin in ROTS I think. But I think, unfortunately, a lot of them were perhaps a size too big.

Also, I'm still torn on whether I like that every Jedi wears robes. Can't decide how I feel about the look all of them wearing robes in the Geonosis battle, for instance.

I always kind of liked the garb that this toy Obi-Wan had

I got that a bit after TPM and I thought it was awesome. This one's kind of cool too but I think I lost the figure and I never had much allegiance to it:
