The thread about J.J. Abrams being chosen to direct the new movie has been getting cluttered with all sorts of things about Episode VII, so I’ve created a thread about the filming itself rather than having all that end up in said thread.

There will be little to nothing to post.  This film will be even more tightly controlled than the last star trek film.

I would be surprised if they even post pictures of the cast in costume.  Like they did of Ford on Crystal Skull.

I doubt the plot will ever be known up until release day.

Since return of the jedi even if there is lets say a novelization or comic book adaptation it won't come out in advance of the film like they did on star wars or empire.

Any social media whether tweets or facebook will probably be false leads from the studio.  The modern day Blue Harvest.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

I doubt they need to bother - there's going to be enough rumors if they don't do/say anything.

We already saw a pic of Peter Mayhew in costume though. Couldn't you just kiss him? ;)

Unless they strip search everyone coming in or out of the soundstages, something will leak eventually. Itty bitty spy cameras are not hard to come by, and some rags will pay a lot of dough for the first photo of Mark, Harrison, and Carrie in character again for the first time in three decades.

For some reason I read that in Arnold's voice.

I had no problem reading J.J.'s handwriting. Weird.

I could read it with a minimum of effort (still pretty clunky handwriting, though).

Interesting. Maybe a Nightsister? Some kind of dark Force ghost or something?

Or another background extra.

I'm itching to see a pic of Mark in costume. Surely that can't spoil anything?

I'm seriously concerned now.

It all makes sense too. George was looking to retire and decided to sell to Disney to ensure his company's future. He got Kathleen Kennedy to agree to take over for him but still felt he needed something to sweeten the deal:

George Lucas said:

“I was pulling away, and I said, ‘Well, I’ve got to build this company up so it functions without me, and we need to do something to make it attractive.’ So I said, ‘Well, let’s just do these movies.’ ”

So he begins talks with Iger, promising a whole new trilogy and more. Tells him he has an outline already for this new trilogy and that it's going to be great. But there's a problem:

At first Lucas wouldn’t even turn over his rough sketches of the next three Star Wars films. When Disney executives asked to see them, he assured them they would be great and said they should just trust him. “Ultimately you have to say, ‘Look, I know what I’m doing. Buying my stories is part of what the deal is.’ I’ve worked at this for 40 years, and I’ve been pretty successful,” Lucas says. “I mean, I could have said, ‘Fine, well, I’ll just sell the company to somebody else.’ ”

He's stalling. Why? Probably because he didn't actually have anything. So he grows desperate from the pressure and starts looking at what others have done in his sandbox. He probably didn't want to do the Sith again as the "Chosen One" had brought balance to the Force. That's when he came across the Yuuzhan Vong, notorious non-Force users.

But George doesn't like the EU, you say. Remember when the announcement was first made how George kept harping on the fact that:

George Lucas said:

"We have hundreds of books and comics and everything you can possibly imagine. So you know, I sort of moved that treasure trove of stories and various things to Kathy and I have complete confidence that she's going to take them and make great movies."

George is all for borrowing from the Expanded Universe to create new movies.

So could this new trilogy be in fact a very loose adaptation of the New Jedi Order series, or at least inspired by it? I'm afraid it just might be.

It's really not much to go on.

Looks like Baron Samedi to me. ;)

 ?

A month in and we already have official information on the location shooting, pictures of the studio, pictures of the entire cast in a read-through, a picture of Chewie on-set from the CEO of Disney, a letter from the director, two videos from the director - one with the screenwriter - one from the set, and most likely a few bits that have slipped past me.

On the contrary, I feel like Abrams has gone out of his way to let people know what's happening.  He also seems to be deliberate in helping fans, particularly of the OT, feel included and welcome.

Lucas went out of his way to shun the original fans, to the point of being deliberately hateful and disrespectful.  Abrams appears to be trying to heal decades of Lucas' mental abuse.

This isn't even close to Blue Harvest.

If they wiped the post-RotJ EU clean just so they could retell a major story from said EU, it would piss off pretty much everyone. It would straight up disappoint the people who never liked those books and were hoping for something truly original. Meanwhile, it would be like adding insult to injury for the fans that were still holding on to the now "old" continuity.

That alien might look like a Vong, but as Ridley Scott said in the Prometheus making-of, every damn creature design has been done by now.

Also, is that the Vong's chin or just a finger?

As for George's ST idea, well, it'll probably have something to do with whatever got discarded before he condensed the rest into RotJ.

This is my rationalization and my hope. They have to nail it with this, they can't just rehash EU stuff right off the bat.
