I know that I'm a little late on this (I'm a newbie) but the '97 versions were released on VCD.

In Japan only and in Pan & Scan only. Both of those disqualify the VCD release from counting as a DVD release.

Anyway, I really want a DVD, Blu-Ray, or Digital release of the '97 Special Editions.

I got the 'Five Star Collection' DVDs in 2003 for Christmas. They're ok however they freeze in certain DVD players. They'll probably play smoother in more modern DVD players. Also the covers claim they're 'Anamorphic Widescreen' but they are not.

The negatives are still 97. That makes it easy to get them released.

Watching the 97 VHS of ROTJ, all I could think is "so much better than 04." Reasonable colors, Shaw as Anakin (the 97 ending is awesome beyond words), correct lightsabers, etc.

I wonder what the recent rumors mean for the 1997 versions.

 Almost certainly nothing.

The absolute maximum will be deleted scenes. Even that's not likely.

Yes i would very much like a copy of Empire and Jedi which has the real ending with Sebastion Shaw and not Hayden Christensen thanks to Adywan Han shoots first again are they in 5.1 surround sound?

Dark_Jedi’s upcoming SE’97 set will have the laserdisc 5.1 audio for all three films.

Where can I find this?

Greedo never shot.

Check the 1997 Special Edition OT Preservation Projects category of the An Index Of Projects & Help Thread for Star Wars Preservations thread for all the 1997SE projects, including some HD projects that have been released.

I remember them being quite popular and being import option on many of the independent VHS/DVD online stores which was kind of exciting at the time. I was going to buy a set in the early 2000s, but when I saw a friend’s copy the image quality was awful and steered me clear. The box set itself did look kind of cool.

The Original Trilogy on VCD (Video Compact Disc) - albeit the 1997 Special Edition

“We now have a story department so that there truly can be one consistent narrative - and that’s always been the dream. I think the idea of aligning the content is actually a really fantastic and exciting opportunity that no other fictional universe could really even support. We’re going to be able to bring fans a unified vision in a way that we’ve never done before. And I think it’s a also sacred trust to be invited to be a part of telling stories inside this universe because it’s so precious to people, and I understand because it’s precious to me.”
