Can someone provide me with a myspleen invite please? It's very difficult to find the Ewoks cartoons in good quality so this project is fantastic. Thanks.

*Invite received. Thanks benduwan

Hi all, My name is Jase and I live in Australia. So my ewoks cartoon series hunt began 3 months ago when my sister announced that she was pregnant. Upon the announcement a throw away comment was made how she was heart broken that the animated ewoks series we use to hire on VHS and watch every weekend growing up was never released on DVD for purchase. With her husband confirmed he had spent alot of time on this project however it is impossible to get... Impossible is a word that motivates me as nothing is impossible especially something like this where there are obiously so many die hard fans out there, who from what I am reading have worked as a team to make this happen? And I must admit I cant wait to see the look of my sisters face when she sees the DVD and knows her children will also grow up with the same cartoons we did. So I came across the site ioffer the other month. When I saw that sellers were offering the full series on DVD, I was ecstatic. After an anxious 3 weeks it finally arrived in the mail today. Sad to say, no good. The picture quality is just to bad. The disc artwork looks ok but that doesn't mean much if the cartoons are just such poor quality. Sorry about the sob story.... anyhow another few hours of hunting has led me to this forum. Please excuse my ignorance as I am sure this question has been asked 100 times but from what im picking up is that there may be a good quality version available for download with an innervation? If this is true I would be so grateful if somebody could please send me a link. I would be more then happy to seed. Thank you to anyone who reads for your time. My email is thinksodoya2004@yahoo.com.au

I haven't seen this yet (or even have a computer at home currently), but it should be better quality than the bootleg versions for sale. You can see screenshots on the first page.

Just keep in mind that this will not be DVD quality, as there is only so much you can do with a VHS source.

There was an official DVD release (probably out of print now) but it was only a few episodes and was edited into a "movie" format.

On a releated note, i didn't read every page here, did anyone do an NTSC version of this? I hate PAL and so does my equipment and TV.

Any chance we'll ever see an NTSC conversion of this project? I can watch it fine on my computer, but I'd love to be able to take discs with me when I'm looking after my niece and nephew.

Well I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Don't forget that the source of most of these episodes is a pretty bad NTSC > PAL conversion resulting in blended fields. Converting it back to NTSC - would there be any benefit at all (except solving some compatibility issues)? Are you sure your TV and/or DVD player can't handle PAL single properly

Well, in order to watch PAL dvds here you have to have a dvd or bluray player that can do on the fly conversion. Since pal isn't terribly common here, such players aren't really the norm. My PS3 is my primary bluray player, and it can't play pal. I don't really know anyone who has a player that can play pal discs either. I can watch them just fine on my computer, because VLC can do the conversion. But in terms of actually playing the discs on a stand alone dvd player, we're mostly out of luck :\

If you still have the lossless AVI files that you created before their conversion to PAL compliant mpeg files, would you consider perhaps creating an NTSC version of your dvds for those of us saddled with North American systems? Or perhaps providing those files to someone who would be willing to take on the work of authoring an NTSC version?

Actually the NTSC>PAL conversion wasn't done by me, it was done by the company which produced the UK VHS tapes, so unfortunately the PAL video was the source

Ah, I misunderstood, I thought the videos were ntsc and then converted to PAL later.

Would there be any way for you to release the source material that you used to make the DVD's so that i don't have to re-rip them and lose some quality?

thanks!

You can't lose quality by ripping the DVDs

Author

You can if you need to transcode them for some weird reason (like, PAL <-> NTSC)...

Exactly what do you need to rip them for?

The original source files for this project are 10Mb/s MPEG2 captures, at roughly 1.5GB per episode. There are 26 episodes, so that is one big chunk of data. (I was the one who did the capture and mailed the raw DVD files to Pittrek.) So what you're asking for is quite a tall order. I'm not adverse to sharing the raw files, but I'd need to know it was for a communal cause, not for some private project.

Pittrek did an amazing job with the preparation of the files and the mastering of the DVDs, and there is very little difference between the end product and my raw files. He applied some light clean-up that took a little crispness out of the line-work, but nothing you would detect without a side-by-side comparison. In my opinion, Pittrek's set is as good as it gets.

I watch everything digitally/on the go -- ipad/laptop/etc...  and i was always under the impression that every time you convert/rip you lose quality -- i was hoping Pittrek could share what he used to create the dvd's so that like with the droids project, everything could be downloaded easily and nobody would have to convert and lose more quality (not saying that the source material you provided is bad, but we are working with vhs and not 1080p web-dl's)

I agree completely and that is why multiple formats would be a good thing (imho)

Oh, I see. But actual "ripping" is just extracting the files from the DVD in their native format (VOB) and will result in bit-for-bit identical copies.

What you are talking about, if I understand you correctly, is re-encoding (converting) to a more portable format like .mp4, right? That would indeed result in a theoretical loss of quality, but just as most people can't hear the difference between an .mp3 and a CD, the difference will be "imperceptible".

Ironically, as Pittrek's files are cleaned up a bit, they will compress better to mp4 than my raw files would. Go for it :-)

So this is all for my older sister who has given birth in the last few weeks, and who 9 months ago said how disappointed she was that you was not able to get her favorite childhood cartoons on DVD for her first child. So I have made it as far as downloading all 10 discs, printing the artwork and have it in both cases really to go. However, I cannot for the life of me work out how to get the files (say the 3 or 4 VOT files for one disc) burnt onto the disc all ready to chose the episodes from the designed menu. Do I srink? change format? certain program? I am really sorry to bother and I hope someone could please find the time to maybe write down the correct steps. Sorry Iam just going round and round in circles, and getting nowhere. Thank you in advance for your time

First of all if you're using Nero or something similar to burn the VIDEO_TS folder to a DVD be sure you burn it as a "video DVD" or what's it called in newer versions, and not a "data dvd"

Awesome, thanks pittek. I will see if I have any luck with that.... Me and computers dont go to well together. Thanks for your time and the massive effort putting this all together.

Kind Regards

How does a mere mortal access this? :( I want the extras and the episode from the 2nd season that's not available on other torrents.

Help is appreciated. :)

If anybody needs a hand from somebody proficient with HTML/CSS/PHP, Photoshop and Illustrator; for any kind of an Ewoks-related fan project - shout. :)
