Star Wars: Extended Edition (* unfinished project *)

So, with the release of the deleted scenes on the Blu-Ray a while back I figured it was time to start this edit.

The plan is to split the edit on two “discs” in the style of the LOTR extended DVD’s

I have finished integrating the footage into the film, and have sent a cut to a composer for scoring.

Preview clip (music and mix is a placeholder):

But they released those scenes three years ago?

I think he meant the eBook.

And, by the way, that preview clip is perfect! I'm going to enjoy tracking this.

 Correct.

I have been planning to do this edit since then.

EDIT:

Forgot to mention that I will be restoring the score to Dianoga scene.

I am so excited for this, it's almost scary. I suppose you'll be doing the same for the land speeder scene?

Yes, that's what I meant. I've wondered how that would work scenes would work with music. And, the eBook footage is going to work for great effect as well.

A little bit more than the original Blu-Ray. You might talk to Ryan McAvoy.

Thanks for the info, I'll talk to him! :)

Also, Jabba scene is in, but the SW Begins version (as to avoid the Jabba theme temp track), unfortunately the end of the footage I have cuts off a bit short...

and no angry Anchorhead lady, unless I can find a way to satisfyingly pull off the Landspeeder effects (I'll either go CG, or try to green screen a die cast model lol)

While I have been waiting for the edit to be scored, I have been working on menus, covers etc. I figure this would be a good time to post them.

This is what the main menu looks like right now:

Obviously its supposed to look like an opening crawl.

These are the "The story continues on Disc 2" and "Continue Film" cards:

I have posted the first drafts of my DVD covers for the edit here:

Are you restoring the deleted scenes at all? Dropping the quality of the film at all?

Why are you splitting the movie in two? How long is it?

I think this is a great project.  I honestly would not care about pacing or special effects or differing visual quality were I to watch this.  What I would care about is the most complete story.  I mean, clearly the better the FX, the more enjoyable the movie, but it is not a priority to me.

I will say, however, that if you are wanting to use the human Jabba in Bay 94, it seems there is no problem in showing the shouting woman with no speeder to shout at.  They would both have incomplete effects.  Truthfully, as unsatisfactory as CGI Jabba is, I would vote to keep him, and only splice in the additional quick shots that were ommitted in the SEs.

1: I am recoloring them to match the GOUT

2: I don't think I will.

3: Because I like the LOTR trilogy disc splits, it gives a nice intermission structure IMHO, and I am trying to emulate the LOTR EE DVD structure as close as possible while still feeling Star Wars-y.

4: I don't exactly know, right know I would guess each disc is at least an hour long?

Well, the reason I am using human Jabba is for the clean audio track (no music), so the composer can write new music for the scene instead of the tracked music from ROTJ.

It's very odd to split to two discs for a two hour film, just because you like the intermission.  Why not just edit the intermission into the film so I don't have to get off the couch?

The only reason the LOTR EEs were split was because of length. The EE Blu-rays are not split. The intermission in those films was a matter of necessity, and not an artistic choice. When you make a Star Wars EE Blu-Ray, are you going to put a slight green color over the whole film?

This is starting to remind me of your other project.

Well, I have finished up editing in the Rinzler Ebook material, and am now working on the End Credits.

Just curious, I was able to figure out who played most of Luke's friends at Tosche Station, but am unable to find out who "played" Windy (the other guy playing the game), does anybody know?

So you've included the BD material and Rinzler stuff?  That was pretty fast!

Cool.  I look forward to seeing it.  Did you include the yelling old lady?
