Oh, I've got a program to read it, and the files open fine if they're stored directly on the laptop or opened from a flash drive. It's just that the folders containing the files on the CDs simply won't show up when I try to open them. Older discs seem to work just fine, though -- it's only lately that I'm having this problem.

The disc drive on the desktop's never been cleaned, though, so perhaps the laser's dirty and it's improperly burning the data onto the discs, making the files unreadable on other computers. *shrug* 

Assuming you are using Windows. Try loading a disc with burned files that you know do show up, open it up in Explorer, then replace the CD with the CD that isn't showing files. If that works it's possibly some built in DRM mechanism in the drive which apparently is a problem for some optical discs on Windows machines.

You could also look around for the driver for the optical drive and re-install it.

Well, I followed you suggestion, Bingo, and it seems to have done the trick. Most of the files on the discs show up and open now.

I truly do not know what to do about Bingo.   He annoys the hell out of me.  Lately it seems every debate when turns into him criticizing my religious beliefs(of which he is complete insensitve about).   I find him to be rude sometimes, and always obnoxious.  He acts like he knows everything and is never wrong about anything.  Has he ever apologized on the forum for anything he has done?

But yeah, if I apologise for things I don't feel I have the need to apologise for it undervalues the currency of apology.

I would be saying sorry but not actually feeling sorry.

Warb, don't leave. Maybe stay away for a few days so you can take a break from Bingo, but there are always people you can't get along with, no matter where you go. You just have to deal with them and ignore them if need be. Just don't reply to him and you should be fine. Don't take what he says personally. Bingowings will always be Bingowings and you can't change that.
