Little is sacred in OT land anymore

AFAICT all that's left is CPY. Everything else is fair game.

Quick reminder to anybody who wants to catch the live show tonight, there's still a couple hours to register at the forum and get the password.  We'll talk about Legacy, and I'll show some stuff, etc.  Should be fun.

I read about half of these last two pages thinking that might have just been an extended gag.  Had to admit.

The show was great, lots of information!

Any way to find that information now? It was the middle of the night for me and, unfortunately, I couldn't afford to be awake.

Assuming the above isn't just code for "mverta showed everyone his big R2D2" which I deem entirely possible after reading the last few pages of this thread.

I was there for the whole 2 hours.  Had you not had to sleep, you would have too.  Mike was candid, he shared some stories as well as talked about and showed some examples of how things work with his process.

He did NOT pull out his unit to flaunt on the video screen.

Shit, I missed the live show.

Mike, I watched your video on grain and how you pull out details with Beelzebub. Great watch. It seems like I remember this project, but avoided it, because I was immature and was still in the "Mine mine mine" phase of my life.

I think what you are doing is great, and if you can get it to the suits, it will be of those great moments when you get to show your hard work for all the world to see. Disney is a company that appreciates restoration, I just don't know if they are more the type that prefers doing it themselves, or the type that just likes to see it done. Most companies would like all their films to be flawless prints that last forever, so I think there is a chance Disney would be supportive. That's just the child in me talking.

I also love your Wampa skin rug.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I watched last night.  I was a little disappointed.  A lot of talk and no show.  What he was saying made sense I guess.  It might actually be better forgot until it's finished.  Otherwise it is going to be more of the same.  I guess the same can be said for -1 and the Library of Congress.

Yeah, it would've been a great finale (or a good opener, honestly), but alas.

Sounds pretty neat. Too bad I had to skip it. I assume there's no chance of a recording being made available in the near future? I'd settle for a one-time re-broadcast or something along those lines.

Harmy's kept my sanity and patience for these restorations. If I start getting the Star Wars shakes, I break out Harmy's despecialized.

If all fails and we never get a release, we still have so many hard working people doing great things with what they have. The thing I like about this project is the legitimacy. Sure, we've seen some great projects come and go over the years, but most of those projects, we never got to really see any results. Just a couple of screenshots to get the fans drooling, and the poster would disappear. Mike and NegativeOne are giving us more than a few screenshots, we are getting to actually see the process. The fact that there are a few star wars film scans happening as I am typing, makes me very optimistic about the future of Star Wars.

The fact that fans have to do it, makes me a little sad, but you appreciate something you work for.

Speaking of hope, it would've been pretty funny if Disney released the OOT to get the hype-machine rolling before VII. Maybe if I just repeat this enough it'll come true.

The talk was less revealing than the last one in terms of the restoration itself, but more interesting in terms of the stories behind the restoration. It was more tell than show, but people forget that the story of this restoration is remarkable and well worth sharing on its own, regardless of what else is shared.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

He did talk at length about the prints he's using (5 diff prints) and some of his other sources, about the crawl, about his process of dirt/grain removal... I thought it was really interesting

I so wanted to join last night but it was 5am here when it started and I just couldn't stay up that long! Hope there will be some earlier chat sometime in the future.

Last night's show was recorded, and I'll do a rebroadcast or two for those who missed it.

As for the two hour talk about the specifics of restoration techniques, visual examples and analysis, showing the restored Fox Logo and crawl, revealing the truth and history of the IB Tech prints, 1997 SE and Blu-Ray sources, revealing what's been said about OT.com at Lucasfilm legal, stories about what's in The Archives and in what condition, Legacy backstory, materials, and screening information being "all talk and no show," I will only say you are a tough couple of guys to do a last-minute, improv'd show in front of. :)

Next time, I'll put up some pictures for you to look at while I talk, although technically, that's what the entire forum is for...!

Thanks to everyone who came; it was fun, and we'll do more.  If you missed the show, register for the forum and I'll be posting a few rebroadcast times which are Timezone friendly for various parts of the planet. :)

Don't listen to the naysayers, we all loved the show M Verta!  I think what they meant by all talk no show is that they were hoping for some video examples from the restoration.  We all enjoyed all the info you shared, I personally appreciate it greatly  :)

Well I absolutely promise the next one will have lots more video :)

One request, though, guys, for all the Obvious Reasons, please don't repeat what you've heard here, publicly.  Pretty please.  With sugar on top.

P.S. There will be a rebroadcast at 3pm PST today, and at Midnight tonight as well.  Two more tomorrow, as well.
