poita says that the IVTC function included with Final Cut Pro X is excellent. I'm going to try it with your raws to see how well it can cope with the wacky cadence changes.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Try it with the 82 P&S lol.

How crazy is the cadence on that one?

I've tried to IVTC the 82 P&S but the cadence is crazy and I can't really figure it out.

For most of the movie, the pattern is
...2 2:3:2:3:2:3:2:3:2:2:3:2:3:2:3:2:2:3:2:3:2:3:2:3:2 2...
In other words, 25 frames comprise 61 fields.
It's IVTC-able using ...doubleWeave.selectEvery(61, ...plus twenty-five parameters)

Reel6B is the exception to that rule.
Seems like the masterers were worried that reel might not fit on the end of Side 1,
so they cranked the speed up a notch to squeeze it in.
It's faster than the rest of the movie.
I haven't cracked the pulldown cadence for Reel6B yet.

I guess it's not as randomly wacky as sw-jsc but the time compression leads to some long patterns.

I mis-spoke earlier. Really it's Reel3B (or 6th 1000-ft. reel)
that's different than all the others.
From Going somewhere Solo?
thru- your first step into a larger world.

drngr's WeaveMan() plugin could help to identify the pattern
... if I could ever get it to load

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

So, I'm done with the 25gb BD for the JSC trilogy. I've tested it on the PS3 slim for the last week and everything works as it should.  What's the best delivery format?  BDMV folder or ISO?

On CAV laserdiscs, there is a "white flag" on lines 11 and 274 (or 22 and 23?) that indicate the first field of a new frame.  Also, the frame # is put in the first field.  MAME has some good decoding code for that.

So if you can get VBI data, it would be possible to automatically construct an avisynth pulldown script.

Unfortunately, the white flag data isn't on CLV disks, since the LD-V8000 was the only player made that could process them.  In fact, per blamld the speedup process used didn't tie in with white flag creation - Fox's original plan was to do a 4-sided time-compressed CAV disk!

BDMV folder.  If you have a BD burner you can easily burn it with imgburn.  If you don't have a BD burner you can quickly convert the BDMV folder to AVCHD ,etc; without having to extract the files from the iso.  I'm not sure if there is any freeware out there for extracting iso's so I definitely think a BDMV folder would be the best way to go to accommodate both those with and without a BD burner.

The BD-25 for The Star Wars Trilogy: JSC Edition is now available at a.b.sw.  I completely spaced out the INFO page that I was planning on adding but I think it's pretty unnecessary and I'm happy with the way the disc looks and functions.  I hope you guys enjoy it. I didn't do any denoising, just adjusted the levels.

Thank you so much, getting this release now, and will be watching it on my standalone BD player this weekend :)

@althor1138, could you post up some screencaps here or somewhere for the BD-25 release?

Author

Cool! Sounds like just the kind of thing I'm looking for :)

Just to be clear, this is all 3 movies right?

Author

Yes. The BD-25 is all three movies.  They are 480p anamorphic x264 encodes.

I could post some screencaps but it looks exactly like some of the other shots shown in this thread starting around page 4. The previous page has a couple shots of what the menu layout looks like.  It's a very simple layout.  I've not done any filtering whatsoever on this release.  It doesn't need it really imo.  I've decided to go with g-force's advice and never denoise lol. If you think it looks too noisy just step back another foot or two and it'll look better :).

I'm going to delete all of the rar's and par's for all of my raw captures next sunday so if anybody can't get something they want let me know before that time.

I've been trying to download the Reup of ANH '97.  The pars are not working.  Has anyone else gotten this to work?

Schorman, I used multi-par to create the pars. I'm not sure if quickpar, for example, is compatible with the multi-par par's. Perhaps it would be worth it to try with multi-par.  If you aren't already doing that.

I actually tried both.  I've tried launching from a few of the different pars as well.  It goes through the whole process, but then reports that it failed.  Never had this happen before.  Kinda strange.

It seems a lot of the big 50-60gb uploads don't propagate well from my usenet provider.

I can set up a Drive account with the files and share them out to anyone who wants them.  This would probably be a one time thing lasting only a month. This should be enough time for any die-hards that want to download a few 100 gb's worth of raw laserdisc files. This should bypass all of the problems of usenet. How does that sound?

BTW, thanks to Arnie.d for the cover art.  This is perfect.  How did you transfer all of the Japanese text with such good quality?

I just scanned them with a flatbed scanner. They need some adjustments though, to get rid of the yellowish paper color.

I really like the BD25 preservation of the JSC. Are you planning something similar for the 97SE? (sorry if I missed this in the thread, I was quickly scanning through it to see if you mentioned it).

Fez: I am so excited about Star Whores.
Hyde: Fezzy, man, it's Star Wars.

That would be great althor.  I'm about halfway through snatching all of these, so this would help if there happen to be any other uncorrectable errors.

The JSC Trilogy BD-25 was really impressive for mostly raw footage. Detail-wise, I would say it's much better than the GOUT DVDs. Thank you althor1138 for releasing this!

As there are many people without usenet access, would you mind if I posted the JSC Trilogy on MySpleen? This preservation should be shared with as many people as possible. Of course, I would give you full credit and post the contents of the "nfo" file in the description. Is that okay?
