Boba Fett Spin-Off May Put a New Character in the Armor — Page 2

I wouldn't be surprised if the reason that Lucas replaced Wingreen's voice with Morrison's is so that people would know that AOTC Boba is ESB Boba.

Changing the voice to match the prequels was a bad idea. Given Fett's line of work, you don't want your real voice coming out of that helmet. You'd never be able to relax or go incognito in public.

In what little of the EU I've read, Fett has snuck around out of suit to catch his prey. It's not all flying around with guns blazing.

Why wear a mask at all, if everybody knows you're Jango's clone kid?

If that is Kasdan's idea its a brilliant one - if it's not Kasdan's it's still a brilliant idea. Not only does it return mystery to the character, it shuts down the prequels and allows us to forget them in the original trilogy.

I'd love them to do this... What are the chances? It's a great concept for a movie, but doesn't fit in with "canon", so I doubt it would happen - but man it should!

I was always more interested in IG-88 than Boba Fett. He's much more mysterious.

WTF?! There's a robot bounty hunter!? Is he autonomous or is he being controlled by some remote being? If he's autonomous, then is he sentient?

I never got involved with the EU, but I've learned that it answers some of these questions.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Long story short, EU IG-88 was working towards becoming king of the droids, exterminating all sentient organics, and conquering the galaxy until he uploaded his intellect into the Death Star II and went bye-bye.

Truth be told, I don't hate the story like so many others do. Of course, I also like Waru. *shrug*

For me Fett is everything Star Wars is about (good and bad).

You know how the opening shots of the first film perfectly explained the entire Star Wars universe?

Tiny little space fish running from giant technological shark monster.

Fett's suit suggested a whole character with a history and culture and George did this to it....

and this to it...

Great link and article.  A few thoughts

Joe Johnston really created the entire design of Boba Fett.  George basically just came up with the name.  Its really fitting that he will direct the film.  I wish the article had brought that up.

Luke Skywalker having kids goes completely against the prequels and how they thought of the Jedi.  If this is true then Luke is either saying the old rule stunk and he isn't following it or the creators are abandoning the prequels completely.

On that note, the voice of Fett in the Special Editions is Temura Morrison.  Now if they change that, its not going to fit with the Special Editions which means...

Original Untouched Versions to be released.  This could be an indicator.

OR they just re-dub Fett in the OT with the actor from the spin-off, plus adding some more changes to now make it fit Episode VII ;)

Joe Johnston directing worries me.  He is incredibly average.  Jurassic Park 3, Captain America, Jumanji, the Wolfman... all average films at best.  Even the Rocketeer, despite its cult following, is relatively average.  October Sky is hands down his best film.

Not necessarily.  Luke was trained in the ways of the force, not necessarily the rules of the old jedi order.  It's safe to assume that after the fall of the order, Obi-Wan and Yoda realized that it was time to reconsider the failures of the past, and leave the fate of the jedi up to a new generation.

I just don't see Yoda having told Luke to avoid falling in love, or starting a family.  Luke's priority was on overthrowing/converting Vader, same with Yoda.  And in all honesty, I refuse to believe that Yoda and Obi-Wan would come back in ghost form to teach Luke more and try to reinforce the rules of the old order.  Their appearances as ghosts should be limited to overthrowing the evil that was Vader and Palpatine.  After that, Luke should be on his own.

Which is why, although irrelevant to this conversation, I will be severely disappointed in the sequels if they end up bringing back ghosts of Yoda or Obi-Wan.  It bordered on lazy writing back then, and IMO will inexcusable if they use it any more.

Captain America remains my favourite Marvel movie.  With Avengers a very close second.

And the Rocketeer still holds up after all of these years.  We were very excited to get that on BD finally, but we might be part of that cult you mentioned.

Heard this rumor and frankly it is a terrible idea. Imho. It is implied Boba in the original trilogy was just some random dude who stole the Mandalorian armor an impostor.

Its not as bad as say him being Jango's clone although he already has been overdubbed by that bad actor in 2004.  So how can he not be his clone if he has the same voice?

Would prefer they pretend the prequels never happened or were just vid tapes that were made by unreliable narrator's.

One could argue the Boba that takes Han away in ESB is the real deal. He got his bounty and left Jabba's palace. The "fake" returned some time later and got embroiled in the events of Han's rescue.

And lest we forget, assuming a bounty hunter's identity is already an established concept in the OT.

Having Boba get killed and replaced in between AOTC and ESB screams "petty retconning" to me. Most of the audience won't care who's in the suit when and if they will care, they could easily come up with an explanation for somebody else wearing the suit in the OT that doesn't involve either Boba dying.

Fett should be Padme.

Read this rumour a few days ago, and I love it. I have doubts that it will prove to be true (as it is just too much of an overt insult to Lucas), but I would really like for it to be. If it IS true though I would really hope for it to be the beginning of a movement.....possibly fan edits being taken more seriously, leading to Disney understanding the profitability of doing special eds of the PT or perhaps even a redo sometime after Lucas' death. Probably a pipe dream....but one I'm very fond of nonetheless.

Maybe the Boba at Jabbas palace was a paid double for the real one while he was on another hunt. Jabba said no to him trotting off so he got someone to stand in but was killed.

Give aways that he was not the real Fett was his flirting with the dancing girls in the SE.

After the sail barge explosion the real Fett comes back to find his hired double lying on the sand next to the sarlaac pit, removes the helmet and puts in on.  Camera angle from behind so we never see his face.

A simple line of "You can't find good help these days." Or throwing some credits at the body and saying "Job completed" line and he gets on a swoop and heads back to Slave 1 on the outskirts.

Would work for me.

Thought I would sneek this picture in just 'cos it's so damn cool and would have looked great as a scene in ESB.

I like it because it would be a way to return the mystique back to the character (as long as they don't tell us anything about him). Unmasking Boba Fett and showing him as a kid was one of the stupidest things Lucas ever did. He never understood why people liked him in the first place.

Boba Fett works perfectly as a Clint Eastwood/Man-with-no-name type of character.  (They even added a sound effect of spurs jingling when he walked in ESB).  So they have to find a way to give the "coolness factor" back to Fett.

I dont know, maybe they could just pretend the prequels never happened, but this sounds like a pretty decent way to do it.

Vader being there was a surprise. Boba, not quite as much, as we knew he was shadowing the Falcon.

I wonder if Vader also gets killed and replaced in between ROTS and ANH.

I'm envious! I'm sure Temuera Morrison is a good actor, but I think the SE lines were recorded when he had a bad case of jetlag. ;)

I think Morrison was imitating the delivery of the original lines. I just don't think his voice sounds as cool doing the sinister monotone as the original voice sounded.

He also recorded them over the phone from his home in New Zealand, which just screams "quality" to me.

I like Tem, I like Jango as a character even. I just wish that Boba hadn't been ruined as he was. I enjoyed the storyline with Boba and Fenn Shysa and the Mandalorians during the Clone Wars, so if we could get back to that, I'd be happy.

I'm thinking of starting a post wherein I explain why Boba Fett is so cool, too...
