General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread — Page 112

I'm probably the last person to see this, but it's still funny as heck.

My only nitpick is they couldn't find a fan with a decent Chewie suit for this.

I feel like creating a thread devoted to making fun of OBI-WAN37's inability to make convincing arguments for the PT, but I'm afraid it'll only end up being locked.

Let's not...we already have a thread in off topic for such shenanigans.

A few b&w contact sheets of the first film I don't think I've seen before:  http://theeditroomfloor.blogspot.se/2013/06/unseen-photos-from-star-wars-death-star.html#!/2013/06/unseen-photos-from-star-wars-death-star.html It's sad they are in such poor quality.

Lord Dark Helmet without his cape in a rehearsal. See the battery pack hanging from his waist.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

Great find!

Wow, even in the 70's I would think they could come up with a better solution to powering Vader's belt/chest lights than that! Smaller battery types were available, even back then. I'd bet that monstrosity gave Dave Prowse a sore butt at the end of a long days shooting. Now we know why Vader never sat down much in the movie. ;)

I have a couple B&W stills from the cell block and trash compactor scenes that are pretty similar to those other shots. Found them at a bottom of a box of unrelated movie photos at a swapmeet in the late 80's, along with a candid shot of Mark Hamill and Peter Mayhew in costume on the Muppet Show set. I've never seen the Muppet one printed anywhere.

They look like C-Cells. Every child that had a toy that took these monstrosities (sometimes four at a time) is now shuddering at the thought of the weight of that battery pack. Good thing Mr. Prowse was a bodybuilder.

Goddamn C-Cells. Expensive, bulky, and an all-around pain in the behind. (*rimshot*)

D Cells, (or the British equivalent) C Cells would look pretty tiny hanging off of Mr. Prowse's backside. ;)

As an aside, I'm surprised they still make C cells. There don't seem to be many gadgets or toys that use them today. (AA's or smaller are dominant.) I have an old handheld electronic game from the 80's that requires two C's plus a nine volt!

This also raises the issue of where Threepio's batteries were hidden for wide shots where his eyes are lit up. That panel on his back?

My scale must be off then. You're right, those must be bigger than I thought, Mr. Prowse is a tall bloke.

We have a Kienzle wall clock from the mid 80's in our kitchen and it's the only thing in the house that uses a C cell.  :)

I hate to go off-topic, but may I ask what is it? (reply via pm if you so prefer)

There's even a Jabba one, which makes a tiny bit more sense. ;)

I saw similar-looking Vader and Chewie pipes at a flea market last weekend.

 This one.

http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Mego/FabFred.htm

It made for a great "flashing computer console" prop in one of my college video projects many years ago. I lost the decals and other pieces over time though.

To steer things back on topic, I also have this little beauty...

http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Kenner/SWBattleCommand.htm

It uses six(!) AA's, but I eventually found an AC adapter for it. Much to my surprise, one of the Rebel Assault games used the sounds it made. Nice little obscure reference.

Ugh, so jealous. I've been looking casually but have yet to find one. I want it so bad.

Wait, are you telling me that "frankenstein" figures actually get sold on eBay?

It's a shame my mum threw away my "well-endowed" Battle Cat (created with some imaginative use of super glue and one of Beast Man's arms...)

Some custom figures I've seen for sale are pretty elaborate. If someone made a decent Jaxxon, I'd be sorely tempted, especially as there's a new Masters of the Universe figure that would be easy to modify now.

As long as it's identified as a custom figure and nothing else, I guess there's no issue with ebay. As opposed to making your own vinyl caped Jawas and sealing them into a vintage card. ;)

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

*cough* ripoff *cough* ;)

Bad enough most people confuse Jaxxon with him.

Now, this fine fellow from MOTU has possibilities...

What? You didn't see that episode where He Man fought an evil pink bunny?

I've never understood the whole stigma around Jaxxon. He's basically just Bugs Bunny in green (and who doesn't love Bugs?).

I was at Forbidden Planet in London the other day and there was a whole rack of these figures for £22. Some guy on evilbay is selling one for £50!

Hey! - I've just had a thought... see this Calvin & Hobbes panel here:

I'll just give a minute for that to sink in.

See what I get at here? Because here, GOUT is an acronym! And it's George's! His Original Unaltered Trilogy!!

...I'll shut up now.

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.
