Static text on a menu page stating which track number has what could take care of that, if nothing better comes along.

I agree with this. Just have a static menu "index" page that lists all the audio tracks and their respective descriptions. People can then simply navigate to their preferred track using their remote.

The index could even be duplicated on a pop-up screen so people could access it without pausing the film.

@Harmy

Are you working on TESB and RotJ 2.5?

Author

Not currently. I'm currently working on not getting kicked out of school as my primary occupation, doing my teaching job properly as a secondary one and finishing the SW DeEd docs as a tertiary one. All else is currently on ice.

Those priorities are clearly in the proper order. Thanks for contributing the meager free time you get toward your amazing project, Harmy!

Agreed. Thanks, Harmy!

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

No problem Harmy you take all the time you need your education, job, and family take high priority where as Star Wars would fall towards the bottom of that list and besides we already have the 2.5 mkv to keep us occupied in the meantime.

That being said there are a large number of people on another popular Star Wars message board that are eagerly awaiting the release. If I were to take what you have said on here and estimate a time frame I would say that significant progress won't be made until school ends around June meaning that the project won't be ready for release until Christmas 2014 at the earliest and Feb/March 2015 at the latest. Would you say that time frame is mostly correct or way wrong?

Well, if all goes well, I should be able to get through the worst school stuff by March or April, so that's when I could start doing some more work on ESB and ROTJ and if I stick to my original plan v2.0s could be done in a matter of a month or two. Those would be far superior to the v1.0s in that they'd be sourced from the BDs and have better encoding, color correction and a bit more despecialization and then I could take my sweet time working on v2.5s, knowing that that there are already the v2.0 versions out there, which are at least on the same level of picture quality as the latest version of Star Wars. But I can't really make any promises.

In the amount of time I've been following this thread, which is fairly short compared to the overall life of the project, I never cease to be amazed at the commitment that Harmy has showed. What you're doing gives nerds everywhere something to look forward to, installment after installment. keep up the fantastic work and good luck with the academics!

Now that my true self is revealed and I can post again, I can share this with more of you than just Harmy:

Wow.

I've watched three previous versions of this (1.0, 2.0, and 2.1, I think), I've read the reviews, I've heard the praise.  And yet I was still unprepared for this to rock my socks off.

Consider my socks rocked.

I watched the whole thing with a stupid grin on my stupid (but handsome) face.  I didn't see Star Wars in the theaters back in the day (I was alive but only for a few years at the time) but I watched it countless times on vhs and this is the movie I remember...except for the part where the visual quality doesn't suck, and in fact is entirely impressive.  I enjoyed 2.1, but this was so much better.  I know it took Harmy a ton of time and effort, but in this one person's meaningless opinion, it was well worth it.

I also have to praise the 5.1 recreation by hairy_hen, which was immersive and powerful without being overbearing.  I especially loved all the atmospherics on the Death Star.

CatBus did some great work with the subs.  Such a treat to have them on this project, although if I'm allowed one minor nitpick, the burned in subs during the Greedo scene were duplicated by the Project Threepio subs.  Not sure if it is even possible to fix this somehow, or if I just messed up a setting, but it happened.

Last bit of praise - the Sources Documentary was a lot of fun, and gave me an additional appreciation for the hard work by not just Harmy, but everyone else involved.

Thank you for this.

Re: the subs.  The SRT file nomenclature is a bit arcane (they're not really designed to be used directly by end-users, but I understand why Harmy opted for them because of spotty support for PGS subtitles in MKV playback software).

Anyway, the -en-full subtitles are really just there for completeness.  The actual subs you want to use for a project with burnt-in English subs are named -en-native.  Hope that helps.  And thanks for the compliment!

Ah, I wondered if I might have done something wrong.  Thanks!

On a serious side note I loved your performances in Jurassic Park and The Fly, Mr. Goldblum. Thanks again for showing support.

A dearth of seeders on the spleen, to my surprise. Anyone?? :)

What are the current 1.0's of ESB and ROTJ sourced from?

GOUT + HDTV?

BTW Harmy, I suggest that you name your new BD version 2.6.

Much less confusion guaranteed.

Disagree, unless you want everyone with the mkv asking what the changes are...

Wait, are there going to be changes?

2.5 looks great Harmy!! It's been a long time since I've watched Star Wars, so it was a treat seeing it again, even more theatrical than the last despecialized I watched.

I really loved it, and will recommend it to all my friends and family.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Well, yeah. Harmy will probably use new dubs - Ukranian, Russian and Spanish. Extras will be added. BD is also supposed to have higher video bitrate.

Quite a lot of people "from outside" are watching DeEds, having two versions with the same number will be at least confusing.

If it were me, I wouldn't renumber just for those changes.  A number change implies more work to the main feature, which bitrate/dubs/extras don't qualify as.

The video stream will be exactly the same as the MKV, so I'm definitely sticking with v2.5.

I don't see any reason for confusion (or additional confusion - there will be questions like "what's the difference between the MKV and the BD" either way). It will be the BD release of v2.5, and the v2.5 MKV is kind of like an iTunes or Netflix release - they are not different versions of the film, just different release formats.
