A.D. 1959: Pope John XXIII announces the Second Vatican Council.
A.D. 2014: Yet another baby is born into RicOlie_2's family and he (EDIT: Ric, not the baby) officially becomes the oldest of seven children.

I had no idea TV was demonstrated that early. I knew the coming of TV was delayed by WWII, but didn't know it had been developed that early.

You forgot one: A.D. 1986 Shuttle Challenger exploded, killing all seven crew members.
I remember when I first heard about it. I was in the fourth grade that year, I eating lunch in the school cafeteria when the Principal came in and announced it. After lunch was done and we went back to the classroom, my teacher turned on a tv to the news for a bit and we discussed it for the rest of the day.

So it was. Maybe I'm thinking of the other one...whatever it was, it also started with a C, but more likely one of our sources is just wrong (I would guess mine).

Skip down to 1984. That's where I got confused. At first glance, it looked like the same thing, but I guess that was a test model or something. I should have guessed since there wasn't a mention of the shuttle being destroyed.
Wikipedia had a list of all the Shuttle Missions the Challenger did and none were launched on January 29, 1984(btw the explosion happened in 1986, not 1984)

I guess the website messed up then. They got the explosion right, but not the launch of the earlier shuttle.
