but since George overdubbed Jason Wingreen's BOBA  with Temeura Morrison's voice in EMPIRE it seems unlikely that they could kill off Boba and put somebody else in the suit. Whatever they do, I hope the spinoff is set about 5-10 years before A New Hope

Boba Fett becoming a Dread Pirate Roberts sort of deal doesn't really violate anything that's come before. And it could explain away his lame demise in Jedi. ;)

Love Kasdans idea of killing off the clone Fett and having the real one. :-)

Then Disney get rid of Morrisons voice over.

Lawrence Kasdan your my hero.

Battle droids the robotic incarnations of Jar Jar Binks.

Han: I thought you fell into the sarlacc.

 Boba: That was an imposter.

This was just an idea that someone (not attached to the production) had. Jason Swank explained the idea several weeks ago on RebelForce Radio. Latino Review are trying to pass it off as a 'scoop'.

The movie could start in the dessert (with moody music), showing Dunes and stuff, eventually getting to a hole in the ground surrounded by smoking wreckage.

All of a sudden, we see a hand emerge, and then we finally see Boba's helmet. He crawls out of the hole to safety, with his armor partially digested, and then says something really bad-ass before the main theme music triumphantly starts.

Uhm, there still hasn't been an official confirmation of this, right?

This is fine. Given that Boba Fett as a character DOES NOTHING OF NOTE, and apparently isn't as bad ass as everyone thinks since after a big payoff he's happier to chill in Jabba's party palace than do anything else.

Put a suit like that on anyone, and they're equally cool looking... which is all Boba ever had going for him.

The real Boba would have taken his money and left. ;)

All kidding aside (and you may not have been), but for the life of me I cannot, nor have I ever been able to, figure out the attraction to this character. Cool looking when he isn't speaking, mysterious, and plays a somewhat minor role in the second film.

Yet people by the millions lose their mind over the character. Not sure what I've been missing for thirty years, but I don't get the worship, even remotely.

That's it right there. End of line.

I was Boba Fett for Halloween 1987-1988

Some unlikely convergence of his debut in the Holiday Special, the insatiable desire for new SW material leading up to ESB, the sheer joy of getting that Boba figure in the mail, (followed by crushing disappointment that the rocket launcher had been neutered) and the fact he's a blank slate kids could project whatever identity they wanted to upon?

Even Lucas has admitted he doesn't get it. (Because Boba's the wind, baby!) But he's happy the merchandising moolah keeps rolling in. ;)

I think this is an interesting idea regardless of whether it's Boba Fett or not, whether it's a Star Wars movie or not.  It has a real western drifter type of feel to it.  And considering the idea starts with killing off the clone Fett, this would probably be set sometime between the two trilogies.  But even if this works, it's still gonna burn when he dies like a b*tch in ROTJ.  Although that never really bothered me the way it does some fans.

This idea might turn some people off, but presuming they actually do go this route, this is how I would approach the spin-off from a totally unconventional, non-starwarsian, approach...

It could be very cool to see two different stories that jump back and forth between one another:

-The protagonist/anti-hero would be a mysterious drifter.
-The main story would follow the drifter, who has taken up the mantle of Boba Fett, after killing him 15 years ago. He is on the hunt for a target with a bounty on their head. Drifter Fett is killed at the end after a harrowing fight (as a plot point, he'll achieve some moral goal along the way, so his effort wasn't in vein).
-The secondary story takes place 15 years earlier, as the drifter is being hunted by the original clone Fett (who has a galaxy wide reputation) and he ends up killing him and taking the mantle.

Obviously there would be more to it than that, but the two stories would contrast the rise and fall of the drifter as Boba Fett. The main storyline would start and end the film, while the secondary story would play out intermittently throughout, almost as flashbacks. It's completely out of the Star Wars storytelling style, but I think they need to mix it up for the spin off movies anyways. And naturally the final scene of the movie, would be the man with the bounty on his head, picking up the Boba Fett helmet.

To me, this would establish Boba Fett as more of a legend than a man.  And that given the rifht circumstances, the Boba Fett mantle can be carried on.

Unless it's established some other fellow was posing as Fett at the time.

IIRC, the Dark Horse comics had a Boba impostor, whose luck ran out when the real deal caught up with them, so the idea isn't exactly new.

Are you saying Jason Wingreen's voice sucked?!

Not at all.  It was fine.  To me, he just worked better as a mysterious figure in the shadows. It's just another example of Lucas not understanding what makes a character work.  I never wanted to know anything else about him or see he again.

For the record;  I've not heard the dubbed voice, nor will I ever.

I'm envious! I'm sure Temuera Morrison is a good actor, but I think the SE lines were recorded when he had a bad case of jetlag. ;)

Like Silverwook said, I think it's that, for the most part, he's a blank slate the viewer can draw on with their own imagination. I think he works great in ESB, but I don't wanna know* any more about him.

I watched him act in AOTC back in 2002 and I'm convinced. ; )

I think Morrison was imitating the delivery of the original lines. I just don't think his voice sounds as cool doing the sinister monotone as the original voice sounded.
