In country areas there were only 2 television stations in the 1980s. Stuff just got shown over and over. Even the capital cities only had 4 TV stations at the time, and cable didn't exist.

So yeah, I saw it multiple times on the telly, I think it was shown way more than twice.

Being a fellow Aussie and recalling having also seen the Holiday Special on TV in the early 80's, I thought I'd see if you could corroborate another distant SW memory of mine, poita?

I recall seeing an Aussie television broadcast of STAR WARS in the early-mid 80's (possibly simulcast in stereo on an FM station) that had the words 'MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU' super-imposed in white on the bottom of the screen during the final shot of the movie, before the wipe to the credits.

Do you ever recall such a thing?

Fantastic. Good to know I'm not purely some weirdo imagining things.

Thanks poita.

Happy New Year All, I have changed the thread title to better reflect the project.

An Australian collector has kindly allowed me access to a print (missing one reel) so I will be working on that and posting some images etc. soon.

Unfortunately I have managed to contract pneumonia, so am confined to bed for a few days, hopefully can avoid hospital and be back on deck soon.

I can confirm there were SE VCDs produced in Asia. I owned a set that unfortunately has been lost in the sands of time...

I own this set.  I ended up receiving TPM on VCD as a bonus.

Home again, have to pretty much do nothing but rest for a few weeks and eat antibiotic tablets that could choke a moose, but good to be back in my own bed.

You should've asked for the intravenous antibiotics.

Difficut to do at home... I'd rather intravenous air conditioning anyway, 49°C temperatures outside aren't making me feel a whole lot better (about 120°F for you old-skool folks).

Come recover in Columbia, MD! It's ~3°C right now. 8-)

A quick image from an incomplete 35mm print loaned to me by an Australian collector.

No cleanup done as yet, but the colour is pretty close to the print itself.

One of the interesting things is the shadow of the 'stick' used for the lightsabre being cast onto Obi-Wan's face.

This print is cropped slightly tighter than the other print I have, and a bit more tightly than the neg-1 print appears to be from their screenshots.

fight-small

I'd be interested if someone could upload a GOUT image to compare the framing.

You caught me just as i was about to put this back into my dvd pile. Here's the same frame from the star wars limited edition bonus dvd:

Lovely print btw, nice colours.

I would love to see more of these prints taken from the original trilogy films if at all possible, they would be really helpful in nailing down the look of the film prints for the latest versions of my original trilogy semi-specialised releases.

Grainy! I'm digging the colors though!
