Please excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is a 'cutter'? It sounds rather sinister.

For those not in the know, a "cutter" cuts prints up into 4 frame strips to sell on eBay...
From post #8 on the previous page.
So... what happened? The deadline was yesterday.
The print was purchased and saved!
But he's still taking donations for it since he had to fork over more money from his pocket just to get it.
Sorry i meant ww12345 and poita put much more money in to make it happen.
Yep - right on the money, Doombot. In order to save it from the cutter, Poita and I put in way more money from our own pocket than we had originally planned... :)
In any case, the print is saved and we should have some rough, preliminary reference material in the next week or two.
Yes, between the two of us we have paid far more than half of it, so donations are still more than welcome.
We have postage to contend with as well :)

Nice to hear about this - all of Disney's animation Blu-rays are heavily altered.

I wish I'd seen this before I spent all my spare money last week! I'm happy to donate something (around $50) but it probably won't be until after Christmas since my wallet's a bit empty at the moment...
No time too early or too late - we still have shipping to Oz sometime in January or February to contend with... :)
I am new to the board and have been following along with the SOTS thread for years. I would like to donate some money to making this happen. i wish the same could have happened for the SOTS print last month! How do I donate? Kickstarter?
Head over to http://www.amps.boards.net/ for full details, and post a message in the welcome board.

Don't know if you guys saw my post in the Disney thread.
Is this print too far gone to be of any use?
Where were you in '77?
Yeah, that one has been for sale for a while, the fading is too severe.

Drat.

Any word on this preservation?
It's happening. The prints are still stateside at the moment, but I assure you we are all dying to see the results of a proper scan with Poita's equipment... :) All in good time.
Any news on this project? It's one of the coolest things i've heard of in awhile, Disney has done a horrible job with their home video releases.
Updates are happening, they're just slow... :)
Any news from Poita ? Unless I missed some things here or on AMPS, there wasn't much news from him at all lately, aside of the colour comprehention work.
Well, he pretty much had to upgrade his entire system scanner, so updates will be slow. Once he does though, it will start rolling again...
I know updates will happen when they happen, but just wanted to say that I'm looking forward to seeing what this print looks like!
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
I'll post a compare image between the film scan (left) and Bluray (right)

Right click and 'view image' to compare to the Bluray. You can see the colour changes and smoothing that the BD restoration has caused.

Nice !!! Much better than any of the so called "restorations" coming from Disney.

Dang! I see your scanning is coming along quite nicely. That is a beautiful image.
