"Here's where the fun begins." - Han Solo

I guess that I am supposed to be laughing(?), but honestly inane posts like this are just more aggravating than anything. I really don't know anymore, but get off of my lawn anyways.

George, is that you? I swore to myself I wasn't going to let you get my goat anymore. Trolling mission: accomplished.

Sorry. I did let that get out of hand.

I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.

Aww, you ruined our fun.

Just to be clear Tack, I am not laughing at all the 'lolz' in this and other threads. Your reaction was completely justified and paralleled my own.

No I didn't, but it's a reference to just after the Millennium Falcon blasts out of Cloud City before they jump to lightspeed to where Alderaan was in the OT.

Are you sure?

Enough is enough! It was m---------ing Mos Eisly! Cloud City is THIS!

Here is a previously posted partial comparison, between the Bluray (Top), and our cleaned and stabilized version on the Bottom:

========================================================

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/k6pZLtY4DKauXf4Ykxi

Note the many missing frames from the Bluray, and the overly bright color correction.

While there is more detail there, this does not seem to match up with what would have been projected in theaters.

Ah finally, remember me saying that a certain project looked kinda yellowish in the desert scenes in the Indiana Jones thread? :P (granted its not the exact same kind of yellow, but skintones definitely take a more "golden" hue)

But it's the best that we can get out of the raw film reels as it is. And OMG, the reels look like what the Mona Lisa looks like today!

hmm, this is strange because I found even more frames missing than you already pointed out in your BR sample, but when I also found a duplicated frame I started to suspect your BR source might be the problem. And as far as I bothered to check all frames are intact in my BR source.

I don't think frames missing here and there in the middle of scenes on official releases are a  common problem, framecount differences are usually caused by uncareful trimming/splicing at the beginning or end of scenes.

Yeah, it almost seems like the BD source you're using for the comparison has gone through some faulty frame-rate conversion or something.

Thanks for pointing it out guys. Looks like there was an issue in our copy that we were comparing against.

That's not to say there might not be any missing frames. But not in that section.

We don't want to unfairly portray the Bluray for that, it has other issues though.

Here is a previously posted video, for those that haven't seen it. Showing the original LPP transfer on the top, and the cleaned, and stabilized footage on the bottom:

It's so nice to see R2-D2's blue is blue and not purplish blue.  Even the outside sunshine environment looks far more natural.  Nice cleaning job to boot.

Here are some of the single frames, that show the clean up done on the original (Top), and the result (Bottom) from the previous video comparison.

Most of the damage is on every single scene change frame, before and after. These are usually glue frames:

Looks really good, kudos on the great cleanup work. The captured stills look kind of digitized, so it is hard to see as much of the considerable effect, but I assume that is just a scaling/compression issue for size. These are the kind of proper restorations we deserve for a film of this historical significance. Like it or not (the movie), it has become a cultural landmark. If Disney were smart they would open up whatever they had in their archives now to start an 'official' one and release it through Criterion in the next 5 years.

I am just really happy that preservations like this are taking place, in spite of all the hurdles in place to do so.

Very nice. :)

I'e got a question: Have you also considered tracking down, scanning and restoring Star Wars reels in other languages, like German?

It would be nice, but we actually have too much data right now. With several prints on our hands. The LPP print is spanish, so it will have a spanish soundtrack when we are done.

If you know of any other language prints, contact us via pm.

When you say "spanish", is it Castillian (i.e., from Spain) or American-spanish?

May the enough-Force-to-accomplish-this-big-task be with you ;-)

Our existing American Spanish dub of SW is pretty muffled, so a better copy would be most welcome!

Work continues on the cleanup. Different members are working on various reels.

Wow, I know people said the Death Star originally looked green, but damn, it REALLY looks green here. The green shadows/pink highlights really remind me of that 1978 bootleg tape AntcuFaalb has...

I assume this is still from the LPP print?
