Wow, I didn't know about those, thanks.
EDIT: Those being the Dr. Who books. I didn't realize someone had posted between the post with the link and my post.

I keep seeing that name pop up on the forum... Who is this character? I can tell by the things said about him that he must be in the PT, but I don't remember a think about him.

Edit-I guess I could ask Google the same question and get instant answers... But I ain't gonna.
Well, you got your instant reply anyway. darklordoftech posted three minutes after you did. And don't worry, he just posted a link to the scene in ROTS about him. The EU novel is an expansion of the character Palpatine describes to Anakin in the scene. Plagueis is Palpatine's master.

That's what I'm afraid of...

Here's the conversation I posted a link to:

One thing the EU does wrong is that everybody who disagrees with the prequel trilogy Jedi in any little way becomes a Sith.
Qui-Gon was something of a rogue. He never became a Sith.
EDIT: He is present in the EU.
Somehow there is a distinguishment (is that a word?) between Dark Jedi and Sith too, but that doesn't really count since they're essentially the same thing. Also, last I checked, Qui-Gon disagreed with the Jedi council on several points, but he never became a Sith...
LOL, I love how we both posted about Qui-Gon at the same time. :)

If the prequels hadn't killed Qui-GOn off, chances are the EU would have made him become a Sith.
That is a possibility. Even in the movies, Dooku, who was a rogue like Qui-Gon, became a Sith.

It wasn't so pravalent before ROTS was releases. After ROTS was released, the EU got carried away with it.

It's funny, really, how the Sith & Dark Jedi have been portrayed/characterized over the years.
In the 90's, the Sith in the EU-- the ones in the comics, at least -- were often labelled as Dark Jedi by the other characters in the stories, but they still had enough distinguishing characteristics to set them apart from the more mundane Dark Jedi who turned up in books like The Crystal Star.
Flash forward to today, and now there's this big distinction placed between the two, even though there's little-to-no difference between the two ethically or aesthetically (red lightsabers, pale white skin, yellow eyes, megalomania, uncompromising hatred for Jedi, etc, etc.).
So true. The 90s EU and the prequels had different definitions of "Sith", so the modern EU decided to reconcile them by making everybody a Sith.
Palpatine's question in that scene does not make sense. How would the Jedi know anything about Plagueis? It's the same problem with Yoda knowing about the rule two.

How does it not make sense? Palpatine stated that it wasn't a story the Jedi would tell, but that doesn't necessarily mean they knew about it. It could just mean that the Jedi don't tell stories about great rises to power because they don't want Jedi following that path and falling to the Dark Side. Plagueis was a secret and the Jedi didn't know about him, and Palpatine knew that they wouldn't know about him. Yoda didn't necessarily know about a "rule of two", but he did know that for ages there had only been two Sith at a time, and no more.

About the Rule of Two, Lucas said that the Rule of Two has existed for "thousands of years", implying that its institution occured long before the Sith seemigly went extinct. However, bad wording in the TPM novelization's Sith history led the EU to believe that the institution of the Rule of Two was a result of the Sith getting wiped out.

Back on topic; Star Wars no longer being Lucas, plus having Abrams at the helm of the new film has put me back wanting to start Scoundrels again. The franchise seems alive and interesting again. I'll keep the board posted.

With Disney owning Marvel, we might someday have Doctor Doom and Darth Vader meet up? Stranger things have happened...
Where were you in '77?
I just wanted to add my own little piece to something that RicOlie_2 already gave an admirable response to:
Verboten, about your objection to Palpatine's question to Anakin....
Palpatine's question to Anakin is just part of his manipulation of Anakin to turn him against the Jedi Order. Repeatedly in "Revenge of the Sith," Palpatine does this through two methods (which occasionally overlap):
1) destroy Anakin's trust in the Jedi by making him think that they are purposely lying to him and that they purposely aren't telling him certain things they know
2) make Anakin think that Palpatine knows things which the Jedi don't (both knowledge of a factual nature and also knowledge about how to do certain important things with the Force).
His question to Anakin about Darth Plagueis is just part of this manipulation and seduction. It could be like #2 above, in which case he's not implying the Jedi know about Plagueis, he's just showing off his superior knowledge to Anakin. But either way, I think you're reading a little too much into dialogue that is intended to be manipulative and deceptive.
I actually don't think that the possibility of the Jedi knowing about Plagueis necessarily has to be seen as so far fetched anyway, but even if it is far fetched, Palpatine's question doesn't have to mean that they do know.
I hate "Revenge of the Sith," so I'm not defending it. I just think it should be hated for the right reasons.
Have you ever checked out the ROTS novelization, deepanddark?
I can't say that I have, Reegar
