Moth3r's guide to LD capture colour correction using AviSynth (emphasis on "correction") — Page 2

Initially you can display the histogram and use the level dialogue in Virtualdub's capture mode to make a coarse adjustment of brightness and contrast.

Well, I finally got around to checking this out. I used the SMPTE color bar pattern on the AVIA DVD and...

Panasonic DMR-ES10 =(s-video)=> Hauppauge USB-Live2 Capture Card gives me surprisingly-close results using all default settings.

(All values given below are in YUV.)

DMR-ES10 =(S)=> USB-Live2

video_black: 16/128/128

video_white: 233/128/128

75% grey: 180/128/128

75% yellow: 161/45/141

75% cyan: 130/155/46

75% red: 64/100/210

Question: Will this method help when the values are this close?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Why would you not just rip the DVD?

I was using the DVD (and DVD Player) as a signal generator to see if my capture card needed calibration.

Some capture cards really screw with the colors.

But how do you know that the DVD player isn't screwing with the colours on playback and the capture card is screwing them backwards?

... OK that's maybe a long shot.

That's possible, but unlikely enough for me to not worry about it too much.

I have a "Digital Processing Systems DPS-470 Digital Component AV Synchronizer" that also functions as a 10-bit test signal generator. In comparison to this, test patterns played from my Philips DVP642 are much too dark.

I've been meaning to see how the Toshiba DVD player I have here compares.

Does anyone have a copy of the spreadsheet referenced in this thread?  The two links provided are both dead.

Here is the file I have saved. Values have already been filled out but I don't think that should cause an issue.

big idea I have rn for a scene to insert in a 3-in-1 where after kylo first confronts the emperor he is next seen on the run from the emporer’s imperial guards and then attacked by an unnamed elite squad of the emperor’s acolytes (a repurposed knights of ren). this would be a cool hostile action scene to help sway Kylo to turn on the emperor with Rey’s help (as he later asks of her). The only problem is I’m no effects wizard and I’d need someone to make his saber red for me to put into my edit (since he never comes to the light side and is later slain by Rey). would anyone be kind enough/interested enough to help?

I know this is easily done w/ Adobe Premier Pro and such but I simply don’t have/can’t afford the program. Icouldn’t find a request thread for such things so I’m asking here if someone could render that scene for me as described above. I can do the editing myself afterwards.
