Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 442

I had previously misunderstood that iBook DRM removal could be done entirely within the iTunes 10.5.3 and Requiem 3.3.6 dynamic (independent of actually having an iPad attached)…BUT after having a closer look at the Requiem Discussion Forum and the iSmooth Blog (that I provided a link to above), it appears as though it is a necessary step to attach an iPhone, iPad or iPod with iOS 5.1.1 or earlier.

According to iSmooth Blog’s “How to Troubleshoot Requiem Errors?” section:

“The only way [to successfully remove iBook DRM using iTunes 10.5.3 and Requiem 3.3.6] is by using an iPhone, iPad or iPod with (iOS 5.1.1) or earlier to synchronize your desired eBooks and retrieve valid keys.”

(…and, it appears as though the no-longer-under-development Requiem 3.3.6 and iTunes 10.5.3 combo is the ONLY game in town currently to remove iBook FairPlay DRM, so until another option arises it's an iPhone, iPad or iPod running iOS 5.1.1, or earlier, device or the highway).

HanDuet does raise some interesting questions in the possibly of exploring downgrading to iOS 5.1.1 (if that’s even an option) OR perhaps the use of another iOS 5.1.1 capable device.

Short of uncovering a viable iOS 5.1.1 device and using our one currently available software option, chyron8472 may be on the right track in looking toward Apprentice Alf’s Blog…

With Brahms now retired, Apprentice Alf would make a short, short list of possibly viable candidates potentially capable of successfully taking up the iBook DRM removal mantle.  Perhaps contacting Apprentice Alf could help start a ball that may help to fill the void left by Brahms’ retirement last year.

That’s about all the help that I can possibly be with this…hopefully SOMETHING works! ;)

Just showed the DEed v2.5 at my house to a group of family and friends. There were five or six adults who aren't Star Wars fanatics, a few young adults (one of which has never seen Star Wars), and my 12 year-old niece who had never seen it either. The DEed was enjoyed by all, and I was totally amazed how utterly seamless everything looked. There was no point when I or anyone questioned anything about what we were seeing. It was indistinguishable from a proper HD release of the OUT. And the best part is that two of the viewers do not know that Darth Vader is Luke's father, and everyone else was prompted ahead of time to play along with Obi-Wan's lies for their benefit.

Empire is next week, so we're all looking forward to it. Thanks to Harmy for making it truly possible to watch the original version without even thinking about it.

That's great to hear, those two are in for a real treat! :)

The Star Wars trilogy. There can be only one.

I've seen something interesting going around on YouTube, where people film reactions to Darth Vader revealing himself as Luke's father.  Most of the reactions so far haven't been amazing (most of the kids have been a bit too young to easily grasp what is going on, or the people filming are being too obvious about it and prodding too much for a reaction), but I think there is a lot of possibility there (especially with the Emperor not spilling the beans early in Harmy's ESB).  If you can, perhaps keep this in mind and discretely record their reactions, it could be amusing.

This revelation so ingrained in pop culture at this point that the case above is very rare. I've talked to people who literally knew nothing about Star Wars (and I do mean nothing), never watched the movies, but they were familiar with "I am your father" from ESB.

What's worse, though, is the fact so many people got spoiled by the atrocity that is PT, which they hated anyway. That just makes me sad. And glad that I got to watch these when there was no PT and/or widely available Internet access to spoil everything for me.

Indeed, so you all just let me know if we need someone to downgrade their iOS device to iOS 5.1.1, and I'll attempt to do so with my iPhone 4S at that time. I follow this thread pretty regularly, but if you all want me to try this and you don't hear back from me quickly, just shoot me a PM so I'll get an email notification.

@Chrisedge-

Right on!

There are several sets of instructions for working with Requiem, but the BEST that I found (complete with a “How to Troubleshoot Requiem Errors?”) is this one…

-> http://www.ismoothblog.com/2012/12/apple-ibooks-and-itunes-drm-removal.html

I would suggest visiting the above link and very carefully going step-by-step through their instructions for iBook DRM removal using Requiem, but here's a summary version of what you'll want to:

1) downgrade your iTunes to the version 10.5.3 appropriate to your system (links provided)…

  • Uninstall your current version of iTunes (if applicable).
  • Set-up the necessary version of iTunes (including authorizing your computer and setting-up your iOS device).
  • IF already purchased in the iTunes Store, then delete and re-download the file(s) you want to decrypt.

2) Regardless of wether your PC is running a 64-bit version of Windows, install a 32-bit version of Java (link provided).

3) Download and run Requiem 3.3.6 (link provided).

Hope that helps (and please let us know your results)! ;)

Also note that iTunes leaves config files lying around after being uninstalled (on Windows, at least).

Be sure to delete, at least, %APPDATA%\iTunes after uninstalling. It might be wise to search for all directories with names containing "Apple" (e.g., "Apple Computer") or "iTunes" and delete them too.

DRM removal isn't working for me either. I'm using an iPhone (5.1.1), Requiem 3.3.6, and iTunes 10.5.2.11 on a PC. The problem is that this particular ebook was made for iPad only, so I can't authenticate for use on my iPhone. Requiem says:

The following files could not be decrypted: Making of Star Wars (Enhanced.ibooks(Key not found. Can you read this book?)

I'm guessing we need an iPad.

Anyone know if the Google Play version has the higher resolution?

I could try to borrow my dad's 3rd gen iPad and downgrade it (I bought the books yesterday) to try my luck, but it won't be before saturday. I guess it might work on a virtual Windows machine.

OK. I'm willing to use mine if someone can tell me how to backup my SW:KOTOR save-file (iOS SW:KOTOR, that is).

Well, just sync it with iTunes. It should save the file in the process. I had several iOS devices for the past years and I was always able to resume my games after a restore.

Oh I guess you mean after downgrading iTunes? I guess you's have better luck by doing all this in a virtual machine or on a second partition.

Really, I can use my dad's, he doesn't use his and even wants to return it to me but we keep on forgetting every time we see each other.

I don't believe anyone has posted it yet. I posted the various sizes here:

OK, don't you guys think it's time to move the discussion to that thread? Or at least DeEd ROTJ, since that is the only one I need the HQ footage for. It's not that I don't appreciate the effort, I really really do, since I really want to use that 720p video for Jedi v2.0 but it just doesn't make any sense to be discussing it in this thread.

*sigh.* Well, I have an iPad 1. I hate the damn thing, as well I hate iTunes, but if it will help you guys to break the DRM on what you feel to be the superior version of the Making of Star Wars ebook, then I will buy it and try to break it for you. Too bad we aren't using the Kindle version, because I could fix that in nothing flat.

I've tried to skim as much of this thread as I can, but it's longer than a Tom Clancy novel now so, let me ask...

Will an actual Blu-Ray version be uploaded at some point? I only ask because I really dislike streaming content to my TV. I love physical media. But I also suck at converting MKV's to BD's and suffer epic failures. So I gave up long ago.

I wonder why the 85 and 93 Laserdisc soundtracks could not be included in an unaltered PCM form? No matter what anyone wants to say, compressing laserdisc PCM down to DD, even at 384kbps (or 640), results in a noticeable loss in quality. It's just not the same. I would much prefer the PCM unmolested.

No doubt the video work on this thing is mind boggling.

Thanks.

OK, a question - does anyone still have my old video about despecializing Luke's lightsabre on the Falcon? My file seems to be corrupted.

Yes, a Blu-ray is planned.  It may include lossless 85 and 93 tracks--they were just (IIRC) not available to Harmy when the MKV was released.  Not to argue your point about lossless (my attitude is, even if you can't hear the difference, why not go lossless?), but high-bitrate DD also has dialnorm, so the volume difference alone may be enough to seem different than lossless.
