how do you feel about including more fresh vegetables in your diet?

I'm not a big "vegetable guy", but I'll consider adding a daily salad to my diet.

Thanks for the tip(s)!

Human beings are really designed to eat mostly vegetables and fruit with a bit of animal product here and there. If you are going to add salad subtract something else.

You evolved from scavs, stealing an egg here pinching a bit of left over meat hither and catching the occasional fish there but on the whole eating berries and nuts just like a bear.

If you eat a large share of raw food. If you cook most of your cooked food from scratch. Use butter instead of marg. Avoid adding salt and sugar. Buy and throw away as little as possible.Drink water, coffee or tea instead of pop or cordials and don't snack.

You'll do fine.

If nicotine wasn't so utterly addictive I'd recommend nicotine gum because it speeds up your metabolism and represses your appetite and doesn't screw up your lungs like smoking.

It also keeps your mouth occupied but it is very very addictive and expensive (you could probably get it on proscription if you pretended to be giving up smoking).

The less industrial ways are usually the best when it comes to the human body.

Get a piggy bank. If you find yourself tempted to buy crisps/chips or sweets pocket the price of the item and put it in the piggy.

After a month count the money, maybe give it to a food charity or spend it on  fast women and loose cars

Small suggestion, you might want to track sugar as well.  For example, my parents eat a lot of yogurt because it's "healthy food," but it's got a lot of sugar.

The other tip I would pass on (not just for losing weight but for thrift reasons too) is never waste stock.

If you are boiling vegetables or meat transfer the stock to measuring jug and when it's cooled down cover it and refrigerate.

If you have any left overs like random vegetables, Brassicaceae cores, leaves and storks, meat bones etc Just fry up an onion and maybe some garlic, throw in some herbs after a few minutes throw in the scraps and a chopped potato and leave to simmer for about an hour.

Sift out bones or stringy storks and if you like blend it.

You will have that most mythical of things, a free meal (or as free as to make no odds).

As it was mostly liquid it will also be very filling without having much in the way of calories (depending on the ingredients naturally).

Soup making is an essential life skill. No two soups will be the same.

There is very little need to starve if you can make soup and it will balance your weight.

DAY 4: SATURDAY 2 NOVEMBER 2013

My mother-in-law came over. We all went out to dinner and saw Ender's Game at the Cinemark 24 XD theater. I made healthy choices, but it's too hard to remember now...

Thanks for the tip(s), Dr. Bing Owings.

Good luck to you sir!

For me, the easiest way to lose weight, is to get away from good cooks. I always said I would either marry me a woman who can't cook, or a crazy health nut.

Luckily I don't crave bad foods, but still, don't put them in front of me. Same with smoking, I've been off of cigarettes since 2009, and even though I don't get cravings anymore, I don't allow myself to stand around with smokers.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Dentures help too.

I can't eat Morning Rolls or Mars Bars without running the risk swallowing my top set.

I need to go food shopping. We're running out of healthy food at home and I've been forced to live almost exclusively on PB&J sandwiches!

Peanut Butter in moderation is fine (I'd go for the lumpy stuff though) but try skipping the Jam/Jelly and have a bit of unprocessed fruit instead. I love Jam...I make Jam so I know how much sugar is in Jam :-D

I made bread and soup today.

The better half was a happy chap because I made the house smell nice.

I can't smell the bread smell because the act of making it desensitised me to it.

It tasted nice though.

Yes, yes, to Bingowings you listen. Soup, remember the soup!

I learned how to make soup last year, and it has helped me tremendously. When we get a whole chicken, we have a meal off of it and then the bones are picked, cooked, and simmered to produce a fine broth. Add a bottle of original V8 juice and you have the beginnings of a fine chicken soup, just add whatever else you want.

You can do the same with beef bones, which we got from a local farmer along with an eighth of a cow. The procedure is a bit more tricky to get right, but you have a formidable stock that can contain anything.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Too bad.  It's incredibly useful for things like keeping track of what you eat, since you (well, me at least) always have it with you.  And there are apps just for that purpose.

Oh, and you can post on ot.com from almost anywhere.  Helps get the old post count up to 30,000....

The #1 reason I don't have a smartphone is that I'm not permitted (legally) to bring it into work, so I'd have to leave it in my hot car all day.

My LG VX9900 handles this abuse rather well.

^This is why you don't a smart phone??? :-D

Pretty much, yes. I use my iPad when I get home and that's able to do what a smartphone can (excluding, of course, making telephone calls), so any smartphone of mine would just wind up sitting in my car all day and a drawer at night.

I hate talking on the telephone anyway.
