It's possible to screencapture the video, but its a suboptimal solution.

I have been busting my ass to get the video to play in my kindle but it won't.  I tried downloading evrything but nothing will go threw.  Why?

You need a Kindle Fire (any model aside from the first iteration, supposedly) to play the videos.

The funny thing is, the books are available in the US iBooks Store, but I cannot buy them with my UK-bound AppleID. They are not available in the UK store.

Aha, so there is still a bit of a puzzle to solve here. Hmm.

The DRM? If Google is to be believed that shouldn't be a problem.

I've seen the SD videos and they're brilliant. So many rumored scenes confirmed ... I hope somebody leaks the iBook versions too

Me as well. But I bought the kindle versions. Not buying these books a THIRD time!

I'll throw my 2 cents in here. I've spent the past hour or so trying to get the video off of the iTunes versions of the books with no luck.

It's easy enough to get the M4V files from each book. Just use an unzip utility to extract them.

I tried 3 different programs people have sworn by that removed DRM from M4V iTunes videos, but the problem is, each program opens iTunes and looks for the videos. So they will strip a bought/rented TV show or movie.

If I drag the files over the open program they get recognized but the conversion fails each and every time.

Unless someone figures out how to strip the DRM from each file directly, I think the only option is to output the video to a TV or PC via various cables/hardware and use the TV/PC as a pass-through to then capture the video as it plays.

Unfortunately I don't own anything that does this.

So the digital version of these books has only been out for a few days, and already certain people are ripping it and sending copies of it to each other?! Way to go!

Did it not occur to anyone here that the author might VERY well hang out here sometimes.......? Instead of copying it why not support his work by PAYING for a copy? There's a ton of hard work that has gone into these books, the least we can do here is to support work like this - as we support certain projects here - not copy it as if we were entitled to it. Not like this is a preservation project or something...!

Not cool...

I bought all three books as hard covers as soon as they came out... I feel no guilt at all :)

I have retracted my post, because although I don't agree personally with the "strategy" behind this release, at the same time I do  not wish to risk this community and it's correct "anti-piracy" stance on such things.

I sign off with a link to the official Star Wars Blog:

http://starwarsblog.starwars.com/index.php/2013/10/21/exclusive-ebooks-videoaudio%E2%80%94complete-contents-revealed/

So there was only 5% that didn't make this release...

Perhaps next time eh?

I purchased all 3 in hardcover AND I purchased all 3 on Kindle (because I have a kindle). As I don't have an iPhone or an iPad, I'm not purchasing it a 3rd time to get HD files. So get on your high horse somewhere else...

You make it sound like people are taking candy from babies. Everything in context my friend. What's not cool is trying to take advantage of the loyalty and faith of the fan base by releasing these "enhanced editions". I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they didn't have this content ready in time for an attached DVD inside each book, which can easily be argued against. However what you can't deny is the lack of allowing fans who bought the physical copies the opportunity to, at the very least, purchase the additional content digitally for a reasonable fee.

Legally it might be wrong but morally I have no qualms with this at all because what they did was not right in the purest version of the term.

People have a right to be pissed about the way this material is being presented. This all certainly could have been on the Blu Ray, instead of parodies already released elsewhere. But, the "own the source material" ought to apply to E books as much any any DVD or Blu Ray. No exceptions.

Whether this thread gets locked down or not depends on all of you.

As a fan, I can appreciate the feeling of entitlement to something new that was not released in a prior version, because "I already bought it".* However, I can also understand the perspective as an IP rights owner releasing a new version of a product being frustrated when folks pirate it. The dead tree version and the digital book are two completely different products; there was an additional cost that went into the latter, with new formatting and added content.

E.g., Just because I had Mario Kart on an SNES cartridge doesn't mean I should expect to get the new version on the Wii disc, gratis. Even though they are, after all, pretty much the same game. ;-P

In any event, this iBook series gives me a reason to finally spend some of those discounted iTunes cards I had bought during sales.

*Kindle versus iTunes version is especially frustrating, but it's always good to research before purchase. ;-)
