STAR WARS: LAST OF THE JEDI (fanedit of 'Return of the Jedi' - unfinished project) — Page 3

That doesn't make much sense, if Vader is planning just to kill her he could do that at anytime anyway, he's had plenty of chances already.

If he plans to turn her to the dark side why would he think she would be any better as a dark Jedi than anyone else (he hasn't detected any special abilities in her before other than resistance to mind probes and strange hairstyles)?

If Leia is still the trigger he'd have to use something else to threaten Luke with (maybe threatening to get Luke to kill her himself once he has turned).

"Your feelings for them are strong, especially for Leia, Once you embrace the dark side, as I once killed your mother you will kill her too."

I can't see that working either.

The problem is Lucas' desire to wrap everything up in this episode has painted anyone who tries to alter these films into the same corner he painted himself into

It might be possible to skip that altogether and just have the fight go nuts from the beginning but it would be a very short duel with no emotional wrestling in it.

Palpatine pushes Luke to attack him, Vader and Luke fight and then he stops, it cuts out the Leia stuff but it lacks the necessary emotional punch.

I know but how does that in of itself act as a trigger?

Luke is strong with the Force because (according to Lucas) the Force runs strong in his family.

This make Leia as (if not more) potentially ripe for turning to the dark side as Luke is, something Vader threatens to do which acts as the trigger for Luke to go ape on his dad (never a Captain Obvious around when you need one).

Your attempts to summon me will never.....aww crap.

i'm srry for commenting but this thing is an abomination to the OT and ROTJ. Luke and Leia loving each other? this isn't the best fan edit i've seen. nothing compared to adywan's and asteroid man's. Luke and Leia are bro and sis. end of story.

btw, rise of the dark knight, crappy title and it sounds like a title for a batman movie.

Surely fan-editing is never having to say "end of story", I'm intrigued as to how Leia not being Luke's sister plays out seeing as it's the main trigger for Luke's near snap.

Oh and dark knights were around long before America was discovered let alone 1939.

Ah, Star Wars purist bullcrap... how I've missed it.
-_-

How you could have seen it if I haven't released it?

Oh, such logical and detailed arguments that you make....

You mean, The Black Knight Rises???
If you're gonna call the title of one of my fanedits crappy, could you at least get the damn thing right?

If you've seen my Prequel edits, you'll already have a good idea of what I think of Lucas's "official" SW canon.... ;)

I was explaining to fishmanlee how in the current versions Leia's blood connection to Luke is key to his snapping and and attacking Vader.

Changing that does create interesting editing challenges (I'm genuinely interested in seeing how you solve them).

A combination of this and some of the latest Ewok alterations going on in the Wishlist thread would be my dream fan edit of ROTJ.

JasonN seems to have went into hiding beyond the Dune Sea.

His original ideas are worth bringing to the attention of an editor looking for a new project. I'd do it, but my video card refuses to even run Windows Movie Maker.

Ah yes.

Just re-read this thread to as per Reegar's request.

I would like to have seen how it would have played out but for me the Han/Leia romance trumping the possible Luke/Leia romance is pretty much implied by the events of ESB without the need of Luke being her brother.

I still remain unconvinced that the snapping of Luke under the stairs works without the sibling/Force running in the family line.

The only other thing like that I can think of is Vader threatening to do something to Leia I don't think he has been equipped to do for decades or maybe arranging for the Emperor to have a child with her.

Sick stuff (almost Game Of Thrones level sick) but the sort of thing that would make him go in a flying rage and almost kill his father. Remember this the film where Jabba does something to Leia that Threepio can't bare to watch. So the film has hidden levels of sickness already.

If he fails Leia is dead anyway so just threatening to kill her is not going to be enough to force that sort of snappage.

Thank you for your time, Bingowings.

You're right. Vader has to say something substantial to make Luke really flip out. If the subtext was perverse, the viewer would be upset right along with Luke.

I'm going to sit down for the first time in years to watch ROTJ. I'll compile a list of edit-outs and possible re-dubs.

I don't know about hiding beyond the Dune Sea, but I suppose it's close to it, lol.  :P

Long story short, I kinda got out of doing a lot of fanediting work for a while, especially after I had a motherboard and PSU in my workstation go apesh*t and ended up shorting out a few hard drives in addition to themselves (which included several fanedits and the video/audio files for them). Lately, I have been trying to do some fanediting when I have a little free time (including finally, finally finishing my "Mass Effect 3" fanedit series on Youtube one of these days...), but truthfully, I find myself tending to work more on my other hobbies like writing and learning animation these days than on fanediting films.

As for doing a RotJ fanedit, truth told, I gave up on it primarily because when it gets right down do it.... I honestly can not stand "Return of the Jedi", either as a film and as a story, and ultimately trying to fanedit it just ended up giving me a colossal headache (same deal with trying to edit "Transformers 3").

Mass Effect 3? My username is a reference to both a quarian in the second game (Tali's recruitment), and the ME3 multiplayer gun named after his geth-fighting family. :)

Agreed on ROTJ. It's a sub-standard film, especially when put beside its two predecessors. I reject it altogether, canonically.

Good choice of name for the edit.

I chose that one too :)

Although the picture quality is only a crumby rough work print of ideas, you have chosen wisely

Cool, brah!

I recently made my own little version which removed most of Salacious Crumb, cleaned up the subtitles, reduced the Ewoks' shenanigans, trimmed some of the awkward moments, and excised the siblings subplot. The "other" of whom Yoda spoke was Darth Vader, and the whole "Force runs strong in the family" business is clipped. This is all on the 2006 DVD release of the Laserdisk version, and thankfully the quality is great.

May the Force (not the midi-chlorians) be with you.
