I'm glad to hear that Ady will be taking out the Battle of the Heroes music from ANH. The main problem was that it doesn't in any way fit the musical style of ANH. However, I wouldn't mind that duel to be scored in SOME way. But that's just personal preference.

Wow, I haven't been here in years. I wasn't even sure I even had a login for the site. The Force was with me.

Anyway, regarding the ANH duel, the only piece of music that I think might work is the cue from Empire when Luke is fighting Vader and Vader starts Force-throwing objects at him before sending him flying through the window. The same cue is used in ROTS for the beginning of the Yoda/Sidious duel so I'd worry that it might be overkill to use it for Ben/Vader. But it's slow-tempo'd enough to fit the style of that duel.

Incidentally, the first two notes of that cue in Empire are very close to the first two notes of Duel Of The Fates and for years I've had myself convinced that Williams based Duel Of The Fates on that cue, simply because of those two notes.

Several models are currently being built, for different parts of the film....and while the items currently being worked on aren't the last of the model work, the model work IS the last of the video work......once all models are finished, shot and inserted into the film we will have arrived at "picture lock" and then Ady moves on to the audio side of things.

Sounds good. Grazie, signore.

You've become a victim of Youtube's fascist-like copyright censorship! xP
Upload it to vimeo. It takes longer to upload things there with a free account, but they're usually lenient with stuff like mockups and such.

Watched the first half of it (up to "that's impossible!!" Guess it's still uploading). The music is far too distracting and completely out of place with the score for ESB.

I'm not familiar with the PT music, but I must say, that piece is quite awful!

It does sync up with the picture/dialog, but in a modern "bash-you-over-the-head with this moments EPICNESSSSSSS!!!" kind of way.

The original ANH:R will still be around after the new version.

My cousins were very impressed with the changes to that duel including the music which isn't to everyone's taste.

People respond to different things differently, particularly abstracts like music.

I wonder if the unused ESB duel music (with a few ROTS cues) might be more appropriate with the ANH duel.

Ultimately Ady it's your taste that you have to reflect in your edit, some people will like it some people will not.

Oh, okay, that's all fine, I just thought it was "cool" at the time, (about 8 years ago) and yes, in the 'modern bash-you-over-the-head with this moments EPICNESSSSSSS!!!" kind of way'. But oh well, thanks for listening. And I wasn't really ever serious about "changing" the scene, I understand that it's fine the way it is.

Then why post it in this thread?

Honestly, a lot of you people don't seem to understand that there is an entire forum full of other threads here.

Sorry Leadzero but this music is not a good choice.

But I can see what you are saying with your mock up.

You feel the father revelation should be acented with a sting. Which is not a terrible idea but the choice of music did your idea little in the way of favours.

Anyway there really does not need to be a sting as it will break the intensity of the sequence.

Sorry, but that doesn't work at all. It changes the emotional impact of the scene. The PT music conveys sadness, almost melodramatic. Not what this scene is about at all. But it does show just how important it is to have the correct piece of music for a scene.

PT is in general melodramatic. At least it happened to Aalenfae and I to realise that while most people thinks that those movies fail to be dark and should be darker, it might be the exact opposite way.

Objectively, there's nothing tragic in a guy falling to the Darkside (PT), but definetely there IS something tragic in discovering that your father is a murderer. So from a certain point of view the OT is the real tragedy of the saga. And the most iconic, the most tragic moment of the saga, which is the one discussed here works perfectly with a dark, menacing qeue, which never happens to sound "tragic", just threatening.

Dark doesn't mean sad. Dark means Evil.

It's good to take note about these details, especially when PT:R is a certain fact in a not so distant future

Actually, it says on page 72 that I have to be exactly that.

okay tv's frink you're starting to go too far on all this, especially on a discussion that's basically over anyway. Can't you find anything better to discuss on this thread than bashing someone else?

It says on page 38 that I need a recharge before I can answer that kind of question.

So I put together a sound effects suggestions list of which some are my own and some suggestions other people made. And it has nothing to do with officially listed differences between the special edition and the theatrical cut which you can find here but this is probably inaccurate.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_changes_in_Star_Wars_re-releases

1. Make it so storm troopers are no longer mute. There is only one line of Storm trooper dialogue in ESB give them there cool sounding voices back and make it more like ANH and ROTJ

2. When Vader and Veers have a hologram conversation. Add the sound of the Hologram shutting off sound after the conversation ends before "prepare to target the main generator".

3. Add a few Blast hit sounds while Han and Chewie try to fix the hyperdrive during the asteroid chase It would also clarify the difference in sound when they get hit by an Asteroid and when Han says "That was'nt a Laser blast" while keeping continuity that they are still being chased

4. Enhance Dagobah's ambient forest / swamp sound effects there is quite a few quiet moments where it could sound more "Alive" yet only subtle non intrusive and not interfering with dialogue additions.

5. Vaders Light sabre striking the floor when he swings and misses Luke in carbon freezing chamber

6. Special Edition Slave 1 Engine sound effect rather than Theatrical (not on list)

7. In cloud city when Lobot walks up the stairs past Lando and co his head band flashes but there is no activate sound. Before the trap is sprung this sound could be heard again when chewie looks over his shoulder to convey lobot double backed to spring the trap.

8.Add distant sound of tie fighters while luke is hanging under cloud city but not on any scenes with dialogue only when he is looking around.

9. The device leia is trying to turn and lock into place before Han snogs her seems to have the catch the other side of the set wall while the boom mic was in the area with the actors. The noise of the equipment sounds hollow when trying to be locked in suggest to make a more fuller sounding metal hit sound on the attempts to lock it in. And a click when it does lock in to place and Leia hurts her finger.

10. Remove Wampa groan sounds so that Luke wakes up naturally upside down. Sasquatch and yeti are always shown to be quiet creatures and the Wampa is based off of these mysterious probably hoax animals yet the characteristics match when he attacks Luke on the taun taun but once we are in the cave the Wampa cannot stop constantly yelling and wailing for no apparent reason. They are meant to be stealthy in nature but I think the Wampa yelling in pain when hit by a light sabre is a worthy groan sound here and perhaps when he emerges but otherwise think he should be muted to improve the scene.

Not asking for any of these to be implemented but I think this is pretty much all the sound effects suggestions I can remember and think of and handy to perhaps compile. And a fairly reasonable list

Nice list, Ronster. I can't wait for the day when some of these suggestions are implemented, that will mean we're in the home stretch!
