Yeah, whoever gets the lowest score should have final say over the colors. Lol

Haha, no, that'd be Harmy, unless you count yourself, as you can also adjust your TV/monitor however you like, or re-do whatever you want on your own ;) ...it's Harmy's project, and I think he's been very fair on taking constructive criticism on bits and pieces, and then even more fair on making some great changes.

I know, I was just kidding. Harmy has been more than willing to listen to criticism than I would have been...

I just took this interesting color vision test and scored 16 (where 0=Perfect Color Acuity , 99=Low Color Acuity and the worst score ever in my gender and age group is 444445389). Not too bad, I think :-)

I may make the test compulsory for everyone wanting to engage in any future DeEd color correction discussion with me :-D ;-)

I scored 0.

So...about redoing the color...

Wait a sec...so hh's lossless files are sourced from lossy files?  That being the case it's not a true representation of a lossless file.  All it's doing , besides the obvious of holding up finalization of your project, is bloating the audio files even further with no added benefit of truly providing superior audio.

That being said, I would as others have mentioned go ahead with the authoring of your bd and releasing the mkv.  I have watched 2.1 at home, and I do have a higher end system to listen on and my personal experience has been nothing short of phenomenal.  Given that we are listening to lossy files as is, please bear in mind that they're higher bitrates than mp3's.  just my 2 cents since I know you're anxious to move forward from this so you can give ESB and ROTJ more attention.  :)

No no no, the mono mix and I think the stereo mix are sourced from lossy sources. Hairy_hen's 5.1 is sourced (at least for the most part) from the '93 LD's PCM.

Can we get hairy_hen to speak in this thread? Maybe he only need like a day more, or maybe another two months...

Also, I'm pretty sure the delay was about him not being able to upload, the files themselves were supposed to be finished. Does this really have to take so much time?

If waiting for the lossless audio is the only thing delaying this release then, in my opinion, you should go ahead and release the mkv.

Anyone who is enough of an audiophile to care about having it lossless will know how to mux the track with the video if you make it available later. And of course I'm assuming you're still planning a BD release, so you could always hold that off until you have the lossless track and make it the definitive 'whole package' release.

Its completely up to what you want to do. IMO  I would go on with out it.

looking for HDTV of the  Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.  Also HDTV of The Lord of the Rings trilogy

The Mono mix is indeed from old VHS broadcast recordings, so it is rather lo-fi. The stereo mix is harder to say since it depends if it's from the older Stereo capture done from the analog track of an LD or the newly discovered LD PCM track that HH was going to fix up.

I say set a firm deadline say 2 weeks from now you release the mkv with whatever is available to you and then 2 weeks after that (4 weeks from today) you release the BD

Speaking for some of us who aren't interested in a BD release anyway, just the MKV, I would say go ahead and put out what you have.

Die-hards who want the BD will download both anyway. :)

@michael: That's a good idea. So I'm officially setting the release date of the mkv to Sunday the 6th of October, with whatever audio tracks are available at that point.

I can't do the same for the BD, because there I definitely want at least the 5.1 in lossless and I don't know how long it will take me to compile and test the thing.

And, I realize the DVD downscale is a bit of an also-ran release, but I'm assuming it can be released early too, since lossless audio is irrelevant there?

I scored a 12 on the test which I feel isn't bad for a guy turning 40 in April... not to mention I kind of rushed through it.

Though I have two different monitors and there is no way I'd have gotten near as good (low) of a score had I used my other monitor.

Just want to point out that "lossless" isn't the only important point of the new audio tracks from Hairy_hen, he is using more professional tools this time around which have reportedly been giving much better audio channel separation on the matrix'd surround (reconstruction of the 7 channel sound the '93 mix was downmixed from).  So, the new audio mix should sound much better than just a simple bitrate difference.  And still, if the source happens to be analog rather than PCM, there's still a point in putting out his improved track as lossless, so as to keep from losing even more information to additional compression (you lose a little bit every time you reencode "lossy").

Personally, I'm really looking forward to it, and would like to see the 2.5 ship with it in all mediums, if we can get word from Hairy_hen on the status of the new tracks...

Not all analog is alike. LD analog tracks were basically FM radio quality sound. It gets the job done, but it isn't studio quality analog tape goodness.

Argh, I'm really sorry to keep delaying and making people wonder what's going on.  A combination of being kept busy with schoolwork, internet connection problems, and going through something that could soon turn into a nasty breakup (and would leave me without a place to live) are contributing factors.

Personally, I blame Zoidberg.

The audio tracks (yes, they are all 100% lossless) are ready to go as soon as they can be uploaded successfully.  For some reason I haven't been having much luck with that, but I'll get those blasted things up there if it kills me.  The 70mm has been optimized to the point where I'm probably not going to touch it again unless a true discrete channel copy became available somehow; I also have the mono mix with the film version of the Fox fanfare spliced in, and the stereo mix from the digital source with all the dropouts and other errors completely eliminated by patching in parts of the analogue version.  Both are level-matched as precisely as possible to the 70 in order to maintain consistency of dialogue when switching between tracks—rather than relying on DialNorm to do this, I rendered new files myself after careful listening tests, to maintain the highest quality.  I'll also add my isolated score, which in addition to synching the music to the movie has also been heavily re-equalized to sound like it does in the movie, and not shrill and nasty as it does on the CD's.  Maybe I should start a new thread for all these things so they can be found in one place.

So, that's where I am, anyway.  Sorry for making everyone wonder . . .

Harmy, hairy_hen, sorry, I know I've asked this a million times, but I was wondering if the 1985 mix was going to be included in 2.5?  Harmy, I believe you said you would include it if you got the file from h_h.  Just wanted to see how that was going.  The completist in me would love to see all the audio tracks together.  Again, sorry I've asked this so many times! :)

Anyone remember different camera angles from ROTJ?
