p.s.  I really like what you (and various other contributors) did with the Star Wars Trilogy Theatrical Editions V3 DVD release!  Are the Star Wars Original Trilogy Theatrical Edition Blu-ray Set V2(BD25) also sourced from GOUT?  (I made it as far as like page 7 or 8…150 pages is ALOT to try an catch up on and while certainly helpful, I didn't feel 100% clear as to what's new even after a close read of your edited #1 post).

dark_jedi has actually said many times that we should forget V3... haha

This new version is also GOUT-sourced but taken beyond what we thought was possible a couple years ago. We've upscaled it, created a process that removes most jagged edges in the picture which was a big problem with the GOUT, and also removed a lot of dirt from the picture here and there. There's also been a lot of time-consuming work to remove glue marks and flashes that appear here and there, as well as correcting color errors like Vader's belt lights being pink instead of green.

The difference you'll notice right away though, is the restoration of the colors. Check this post I made a while ago to see a comparison where the difference is very visible.

Not only colors -- the difference in CLARITY is amazing.

Yea I really hate to say it but the V3 SUCKS compared to this, it is really dated and flawed, now I am not saying our new version is not flawed as well, but not nearly as much, this new Set is just miles ahead of that old shit, I am sorry for saying it but I have seen both and to me, yes the V3 is shit lol, now I know there are still a lot of peeps out there that still really love that Set, well all I can say to you is just wait until you see and hear this one.

Right on!  Thank you all for your very helpful replies (and especially to  dark_jedi, You_Too, and to all other contributors to this project)…that DOES help clarify the matter for me!  I am super excited to be able to watch the latest/greatest Star Wars Original Trilogy Theatrical Edition Blu-ray Set V2(BD25) version it sounds and (from the little color comparison glimpse provided by You_Too) looks pretty freakin awesome!!!

While I am quite glad to have the V3 DVDs and each of Puggo's various projects safely in hand, it looks like (in no particular order):

1) THIS Team Blu project

2) Harmy's Original Trilogy Despecialized Edition HD project

Yeah, we all have pretty much the same goal, we just approach it differently but it's good because the more versions the better. I'm especially looking forward to the 35mm versions too.

Agreed!  I am totally good with having a personal library that includes a half-dozen, or so, varying treatments all striving toward the best possible preservation of the OOT in all it's unaltered theatrical (or as close there to as humanly possible) glory! ;)

p.s.  Perhaps someday I'll be able to walk into a store and buy Disney's excellent treatment of the same using a superior original source and methods (even then, I'm keeping these select best of class "fan" efforts)…but until that day (even if that day ever comes) THANK YOU originaltrilogy.com userbase for making freely available what G.L.'s overinflated ego would forever deny us! :D

GOUT is often used as a shorthand to specifically refer to the 2006 Bonus DVDs.

I don't get on here much to post.  I lurk quite a lot, but I just wanted to take the time to thank you for your efforts.  I currently have your V3's and eagerly await the Blu's.  I don't really have much input on the distro matter, but I can tell you that no matter your decision, I hope to be able to obtain a copy of it.  Preserving Star Wars is something that should be respected rather than taken for granted.  Thanks again for the work you have done here.

The mono mix was sourced from VHS recordings of European TV broadcasts (from the UK and Denmark).

Its all good, we are very very close to releasing SW 77, will be a little bit later for ANH 97 SE though, we have a lot in between going on.

Look forward to whatever comes.  Really enjoying Harmy 2.1 atm, and it is hard to fathom that something even better can come along.

Just watched the 20min SW77 sample. Wow! it really is hard to believe this came from GOUT, it is much more watchable than even your V3. The colors and level seem perfect.

The grain revealed looks a little weird sometimes though? Is it all from the GOUT? Or is some of it a result of your process? Or maybe the relatively low bitrate of the sample?

So, will the upcoming Star Wars (1977) be part of "Star Wars Original Trilogy Theatrical Edition Blu-ray Set V2(BD25)", or will this mark Blu-ray Set V3 (…and will this release include latest/greatest audio tracks from hairy_hen most recently, to my knowledge, discussed here and here)?

also, are ESB and ROTJ from the same set on the horizon?  Under development?  Or more like pre-production?

SUPER DUPER, really, truly excited for each of your upcoming "Theatrical Edition" Blu-ray releases!!!  :D

Thank you Team Blu, your dedication to excellence is truly remarkable!

I am not sure, he never comments here and I got 1 PM and answered so I have no idea, it may be for the other project only, a possible exclusive I guess, but as of now I guess no, because I have no idea what it is or what is going on anyways.

Not to mention I have been sitting on these files for a while now and want to get it out there so once we are ready I will not make you guys wait any longer.

Well, I'm sure that as soon as they are ready, h_h will post links for everyone and you guys will be able to use it too. :-)

Yup, I absolutely will be making my stuff available for this project.  I tend to post in Harmy's thread simply because it is the most active, but that does not by any means imply that what I'm doing is exclusive to his projects or anything like that.  The goal here is to present the movies in the best possible quality, and anybody who shares that intention is welcome to make use my stuff.

Speaking of that, d_j, what program do you use for Bluray authoring?  The reason I ask is that I'd prefer to use Dolby TrueHD for reasons of playback compatibility, but it is more complicated to use correctly on the authoring side, so it would help to know what your capabilities are in this regard.

Author
Time

We can use Dolby TrueHD it is no problem, but we\I prefer DTS HD-MA 5.1 and this is what we will use because I find this to be way more compatible then Dolby TrueHD, so if this becomes available to us then I would prefer lossless wav files like before, I can encode myself like all the other versions, TrueHD is to difficult to work with and depending on what you use for your BD authoring any HD audio could be a problem and not author right.

So if it is OK and it is done in time for us then I would prefer 6 mono wav files.

hairy_hen: I thought your new slightly adjusted Star Wars 70mm soundtrack restoration (as compared to the original version found on the V1 Blu-ray) was already done some time ago?

The Star Wars trilogy. There can be only one.

Author
Time

Yes, it was.  What I'm talking about now is essentially the same thing, but since I recently gained the ability to upmix using real Dolby Prologic II, the channel separation and imaging are now somewhat improved compared to how it was previously.  I'll also eventually do the other two movies the same way, as well.
