Why is it sickening? He's hardly the highest paid actor in Hollywood, and given the amount of stunts he's done himself in the Indy movies and elsewhere, he's worth every penny. He's probably one of the most humble guys in the acting biz. You don't see him in the scandal sheets much if at all.
He had some pretty lean years before Star Wars made him a star. I read somewhere he held onto his carpenters tools for many years after hitting the big time, just in case.

He only got an audition as Han Solo because they were being held at Coppola's place and he was working there as a Carpenter. Lucas felt bad, and gave him a shot. At that point he'd already done 10 or more films, including working for Lucas, Coppola and Antonioni.

Based on one story I've heard about female fans going crazy at the Yuma location for ROTJ, I don't blame him.

If Lucas can change the OT movies, then he can go back and change the opening crawls and the PT never existed.
Perhaps the episode numbers should be dropped altogether.

I hate the "episode _" labeling. This of course arose during the prequels when TPM was referred to as Episode 1.
It was Star Wars, Empire, and Jedi. Then it became 4,5,6,1,2,3. I always see this question pop up every month or two around the web.

Hope so, no matter how much Frank loved the CGI Yoda. On the other hand, last time they tried to recreate the puppet it didn't work so well. If Frank's not up to it though, Tom Kane has proven himself worthy.
I really hope there won't be any old characters coming back as force ghosts. That was one of the things I really liked about Zahn's books - he recognized the stupidity of the scene in ROTJ, where Obi-Wan, instead of being a disembodied voice or a flickering apparition, appeared as a ghost to rest his but on a stone and have a whole expository conversation with Luke and so Zahn had Obi-Wan appear to Luke one last time telling Luke that he's moving on and Luke will have to deal with what's coming on his own.
It really cheapens the death of a character, when you can just bring them back whenever it's convenient - it kinda worked in ESB, because it was handled pretty tastefully but I think that on the whole, it's a pretty cheap plot device and it would be even worse to use it just to give the dead characters some kind of a cameo. Plus, imagine the horror if they brought Hayden back as Anakin's ghost... Urgh!
At the risk of mixing metaphors and reading as a scratched record Star Wars as Dune lite takes some of the really clever ideas of Herbert and returns them to their more traditional narrative origins.
Herbert doesn't have ghosts but invading persona's from the (then fashionable notion) genetic memory of the drug enhanced and intensively trained minds of his eugenically conditioned characters.
Or they are clones that recover the memories of their previous incarnations in much the same way (sort of like Ripley 8 in Alien 4).
In terms of story mechanism it's still a ghost but it gives a harder science fiction explanation as to how the dead come back to interact with the living.
If Leia like Alia were to be tormented by an evil Grandfather figure she conspired against and helped kill, it would be an actual ghost not a split personality.
I have no problem with that as long as it's a genuinely frightening ghost story and not just a transparent red haloed return of the character as he was alive.
I agree with Harmy, Ben sitting on a log and delivering exposition was one of the dumbest moments of Star Wars.

Also, Anakin really shouldn't even have a ghost, when you think about it. Not just from a PT perspective but from an OT perspective too. When I was a kid I was always confused why this guy showed up that people kept telling me was ghost Anakin. But didn't Obi-Wan tell him that he would become more powerful than he could possibly imagine? And why didn't Anakin disappear when he died?
Let's hope the force jedi count in the new films is zero. I could do with some dialogue from Luke saying something like "it's been twenty years since I've seen them. I'm on my own now." If the force ghosts just stayed around to make sure that Luke got his jedi order fixed up, then left, I'll be happy.

I presume what was left of Anakin vanished between Luke dragging him onto the shuttle and escaping the Death Star. Lucas said somewhere the armor was empty when Luke burns it. Had we seen the body vanish in the movie, that would have spoiled the ending a tad...
If it's the usual retcon by George, one can presume Ben and Yoda helped him cross over. Qui Gon didn't vanish either.

Hadn't thought about Vader not appearing to disapear, if you pardon the expression. The armour does look empty on the pyre now you mention it. If any FX savy editors are listening, I'd love to see a mockup version of the hanger bay scene where Vader's face disapears leaving just the armour. Just to see how it would play emotionaly.
I just assumed that the real reason Jedi's don't vanish in the PT was because George realised that they all needed to die and having hundreds of Jedi's all vanishing would look silly. It would've been like a bad FPS when all the corpses vanish 3 seconds after you shoot them. But then he never really explained it by the end of the PT. Just some throw away nonsense about Qui-Gon.
I don't think any force ghosts are needed in the ST as all the character arcs were all wrapped up in ROTJ. I always felt that when Luke gives them a contended smile in that last scene in the Ewok village, that it would be the last time they'd apear to him or anybody. Yoda, Ben and Anakin probably went to whatever the Jedi equivelant of the undying lands is ;-)

Interesting idea, but it would raise the question of why Luke is lugging an empty suit of armor up the shuttle ramp as the DS is about to blow.

I hope that they don't bring back ghost characters like Yoda and Obi-wan, but for a different reason. Years from now, a whole lot of kids will have seen Episode 7 before any of the other movies, and to ruin Yoda and Obi-wan and spoil Anakin before they've seen the Originals is as bad as what the prequels did. There will come a time when nobody will have experienced Luke's revelations concerning Yoda and Vader as revelations, having been told this information in both the prequels and the sequels. And that does great damage to the Originals in my opinion.

Well I just don't see how it worked in ESB and not in ROTJ. I think it worked well overall.
It was only ruined by the Hayden, which is by far the worst change to OT.
