It's not difficult to understand why people believe Abrams is getting itchy feet.  This is the guy who initially turned down the job, has refused to commit to the scheduled 2015 release, and has bitched about working in the UK (saying it was making him 'crazy').

These things don't exactly fill me full of confidence in him.

Could be a good thing. Lucas had nothing but trouble and discomfort while working on the original film and look how that turned out. He had no complaints on the set of the prequels and look how those turned out.

Yes, that is probably what made the original trilogy better than the prequels.

Not comparable. For one thing Star Wars was Lucas' film that he wanted to get out and get seen. Abrams working on Star Wars sequel, it's a film he didn't even want to work on in the first place. Right from the start the desires are different. Going through hardship on something that no matter what you just want it to be seen. Versus going through hardship on something you were goaded into working on. Disney is taking Abrams away from his family to work on the film. Lucas' wife was the one who ended up in the editing room with him.

It's different.

I don't disagree at all. That's the same difference between Star Wars and the franchise it birthed. I'm just sayin' that sometimes hardships can inspire better art than sitting comfortably. I'm not sayin' that I have any faith that Star Wars 7 will be any better than.. anything.

Where has he been quoted as not committing to the release date?

It was widely reported that he would prioritise story over release schedule, even though Disney has treated the Summer 2015 release date as set in stone.

I thought the story was all ready to go back in November. He's the director, not the writer. I know the screenplay itself is a different matter, and it does take time to iron it out, but they've had the better part of a year now to work on it. I'm scratching my head as to why he would still need more time.

It can take a hell of a time to get things right in a screenplay. Live action 'Akira' has been written and re-written for 10 years and the latest version of the script for 'Mad Max 4' finally got greenlit after a quarter century, also 'Watchmen' and 'Les Mis' took about 25 years to get right too.

It was worth the wait for those last two and I'm happy to wait longer for 'Akira' as it sounds like the current team behind it haven't a clue. I'm more than happy to wait another year or two for Star Wars, rather that it being rushed.

A scary amount of top level blockbusters go into production these days without a finished script nevermind a good script. Matt Damon said he turned down the 4th Bourne film because they didn't have a script. The money offered was huge but not nearly enough to go into something like that blind. Instead he signed on for Neill Blomkamp's new Sci-Fi epic 'Elysium', hurray!

Noooooooooooooo!

Only rumors, but that's all we've got for now. I honestly don't know much more about Gosling than he's God's gift to womankind or something but the movie star factor turns me off. Efron actually is a decent actor from what I've seen (which was not his Glee precursor) but if anyone's eyebrows could use digital tampering . . .

The blue elephant in the room.

I have no problems with Ryan Gosling. If anyone would like a good sample of his work I'd highly recommend Drive.

Efron is pretty iffy to me but I haven't really seen anything of his so I don't know.

This'll likely just end up being another baseless rumor that we'll all forget about in time. =P

Ah, Gosling ... he's certainly good at playing unlikeable douchebags, I must admit.

Gosling and Efron: clearly the stuff of rumor mill BS.

That being said I'd totally dig Gosling as Luke Jr.

latino-review seems to be the only website getting legit inside info so far.

They were the ones who broke the story Harrison was coming back?

This has yet to be officially confirmed. So, it is a little early to determine whether this info was legit.

It seems that it isn't legit

The Huffinton Post is reporting that they have been contacted by Ryan Gosling's representatives who said, "This is not true" regarding his involvement with Episode VII. They also point out that Gosling said he wanted to take a break from acting a few months back.

I would take any rumours and subsequent denials from JJ with a pinch of salt. JJ and crew flatout lied to questions about Benedict Cumberbatch's charcter in STID... and I'm glad they did. Kept a bit of mystery.

That tactic didn't go over so well with some fans though. I think Disney and Lucasfilm will have the final say in the flow of official information.

Yeah read that on Twitter. I'm becoming increasingly optimistic we're going to get something good too.

I refuse to be optimistic.

After the PT and Prometheus I don't want to invest time anticipating something that has every chance of being a disappointment.
