So since I missed the window for the BD, how does one get them?

I meant when they are released.  Or has that been discussed yet?

Still not sure, I am talking with someone now, but still not 100% sure, I hate fileshare sites because I am not paying to join to keep the links alive and for the speed, plus not sure who to trust anymore, and torrents are good but I cannot stand the hit and runners, especially when the file sizes are this large, so I might just have to do the newsgroups, but there are still a lot of members who do not use this, so just not sure, I will know more soon.

lol if I had a Blu-ray duplicator I would just take more blank donations and burn for people, hell as it is I hope my trustee home BD burner does not fail me lol.

So if anyone has any suggestions fire away, I will at least hear them out and think on them.

I'd suggest a PIF chain like back in the day, but with people not having blu burners or not continuing he chain, that will get pricey quick (and wear out a burner if only a couple people are doing it).

I used to pay for RS for a few years just to host Song of the South, so I know how that can get high.

Spleen might be good, but H&R is an issue (it is for me now since my ISP gave me a cap, which include 10gb/month upload only).

Guess it's back to usenet. lol

Yea I will definitely not use "PIF" this has never, ever worked, and I certainly do not trust it to keep going, it never has, been burned on this a lot back in the day so this is why I never even mentioned it and never will lol, to many asshats out there that will not help keep projects like these alive.

Author

I don't know what PIF is, and it reads like I don't want to know, but with the little knowledge I have oft these things, wouldn't MySpleen be a viable option? Perhaps you can set some agreements from people, to keep them seeding it? Just a thought.

Agreed. "PIF" is the perfect name for it. It's the sound you should make when someone suggests using it. ; )

PIF is pay it forward, you would send a copy to someone then he\she will burn 3 copies and send out and so on, but it always breaks down, this has never worked.

and agreements do not work, people can say what they want and then do another lol, but I will figure something out, nothing is going to be perfect.

Oh, the good old days of PIF chains :-) You're unfortunately correct, they usually don't work as good as they should for the same reasons why torrents get abandoned :-(

Guys, I don't know whether I can help. I regularly use Handbrake to convert my blu rays and DVDs into compressed h264 mkvs passing through the original dts aor ac3 audio. Blu rays to about 4GB and DVDs to about 1GB. Using Handbrake (free opensource) the latest codecs are used and quality is really awesome, much better than even a couple of years ago. I prefer it to having to keep changing my discs etc.

The files play brilliantly on htpcs, computers, and most media players. I also usually do a separate conversion for my smart phone use.

There's nothing special about what I do, it's mostly standard Handbrake recommendations, but it really seems the fanedit community is pushing uncompressed video and getting less exposure because of that, if I can help providing samples etc please let me know.

Just to clarify what I'm suggesting is it might be easier for fans to share edits if there were less storage space involved, although I concede that may not be the issue, I don't know much about this stuff.

Torrents are amazing and I'll definitely seed this release since these versions (both original and '97 cuts), were the ones I grew up watching on TV and VHS respectfully.

Have you thought about the new Mega? They're really good and not to mention, really reliable (I have an account there and it's been really good so far). Plus, I'm positive that these files won't delete once you sign up and store them into your own account folder. Uploaded and Filepost are also good as well. I recommend all three sites.

Well mega ... how long do you think it will take before FBI takes them down again ?

Author

Mega is still supposed to delete copyrighted material.  They deleted the AD Season 4 fanedits already.

Agreed.  Mega has a huge target painted on it because of the owner's history.

Kim Dotcom claims he can't know what is on the servers so it can't be identified or removed.   Except a recent article talks about how he is removing 3D printer gun patterns from Mega since he finds it abhorrent.  Soooo it's not so encrypted.

I wouldn't bank on Mega lasting long.

If Mega lasts more than another year, I'll be surprised.

Truly sorry for the lack of updates on these 2 releases but I am still waiting on menu packages for a couple in front of these then I will get these and also waiting on case arts to be finished, ALL assets are done and have been done for a long time now, so hopefully we will have something to show soon and get out there, these files do no one any good just sitting on my hard drives, again real sorry it is taking so long, that is all I am going to say, because I said it would be "soon" months ago.

You_Too and I are actually ready to hit the ESB's now, I think we had our nice SW break and are ready to get back.

Stay tuned

Very good news.  You deserved a break, but everyone's looking forward to some ESB, so we're glad to hear you're ready to go.

For my $0.02, I would say it isn't even close:  Go with MySpleen (at least as your primary distribution point…with ANYTHING else secondary).

Why MySpleen?

Reason #1:  Longevity.  Currently, your three Original Theatrical Cuts of SW, ESB, and ROTJ V3 DVD uploaded OVER 2 years ago STILL have 13, 16, and 13 seeders respectively!  So, it's not 40 each 5 years later, but that's pretty damn impressive just the same.  When you have a QUALITY product that people want (and a highly loyal distribution base, such as SW fans not able to spend their $20-30 a pop on retail theatrical versions)...you're going to get longevity!

Reason  #2:  Speed & Size.  Conventional DL sites (such as RapidShare and the bunch) are really inappropriate for file-shares much greater than 2gb due to speed and file size limitations (not to mention typical auto-deletion after 30/60/90 day inactivity).  Torrents are NOT thusly limited.

Reason  #3:   MySpleen is a PRIVATE torrent site (but with strong support for and from the members of this forum).  This is a group that on the whole DOES genuinely care about accessibility to projects such as this one!  And, for those who need more reason to do right, there is additional incentive to SEED in order to improve one's UL/DL ratio.

Obviously, you are already highly familiar with MySpleen...but especially for a release of this collectively large size, it would be my clear first-choice not for a lack of options, but because it's a SOLID choice for this purpose.

Put them on both news servers and MySpleen. That way, some of us can share them with each other locally and/or country wise (setting up our own pay it forward thing...it works for some, and I know since I got a few sets of the DVD sets this way AND shared them further out back in the day). I´d be happy to burn them out to people in the same country as me if they bring/send discs. MySpleen is the most viable option for longevity for sure, but not all of us have the option to have our PC´s running for weeks on end to be able to share stuff even if we would like to

Thanks for the input but I am still not 100% certain on torrents, and spleen is always needing donations to keep going, I remember way back when that when they did not get enough donations the site went down for some time, well I certainly am not going to put something this big on a site that may go down, I have tried contacting walkingdork but he seems to not be responding to PM's anymore.

Also when the file sizes are 25 to 50 GB's, you never just upload that much, it usually ends up almost double before you have seeds, well we have a cap every month, so as of right now I am just not sure yet, and I still have time anyways, the copies for my Team and those that donated still have not gotten theirs copies yet and this is going to happen first, I am still trying to figure out the best way, something will happen, just not sure what yet.

Right on.  Keep us posted, and please let me know if there's anything I could do myself to help. ;)

-A.S.

p.s.  I really like what you (and various other contributors) did with the Star Wars Trilogy Theatrical Editions V3 DVD release!  Are the Star Wars Original Trilogy Theatrical Edition Blu-ray Set V2(BD25) also sourced from GOUT?  (I made it as far as like page 7 or 8…150 pages is ALOT to try an catch up on and while certainly helpful, I didn't feel 100% clear as to what's new even after a close read of your edited #1 post).
