It was great to watch. BTW where did the footage of the home made scanner come from?

Awesome mini-documentary, Harmy. You are a LEGEND for the work you've done on this project.

Very nicely done Harmy! It's amazing to see a tiny snip-it of how much work you put into this project. It was also interesting to learn how many other members who contributed their time and effort, to work on the project with you as well.

Just watched the little "making-of" video.  Wow.  Amazing.  Harmy - I trust all this hard work will help you get an awesome job in the film industry.

LucasFilm should be embarrassed.  Imagine what they *could have* delivered if they had wanted to.

Is that still available somewhere?

It was on the first 35mm preservation thread but the links appear to be inactive now unfortunately.

That documentary was great Harmy. Clear and straightforward.

Excellent work Harmy. Excellent work!

I don't know if it's too late, but there is some clear black crush in the Millenium Falcon docking scene. The side of the image is all black, compared to v1.0 where you had details on the sides, for example stairs to the left handside of the screen.

“But I was going to Tosche Station to pickup some power converters!”

That short documentary was amazing.

By the way man, your voice and your English are great.

I use that pronunciation of Avisynth.

Well done teaser, Harmy. Even more interesting than George's effort. Can hardly wait to see the full making of featurette!

I did notice a glaring omission (but expecting to see it be in the final release) was the nod to my invaluable contributions. It needn't be grandiose ... "without who's help this project would not have been possible" ... something like that. But more important is getting the name spelled right. Thanks buddy!  ;)

Before DeSpecialized! Before Specialized! At last ... the original Star Wars!

(but too big for the small screen)

So, I checked out the clip on youtube and it looks like ass due to the horrible compression, so I still highly recommend downloading it from here, because on youtube you can't really appreciate the differences at all.

On Youtube, set at 720p quality, I think it looks good enough to get the point across.  Very impressive featurette, showcases the extent of your and everyone's efforts quite well, also very well narrated.  I hope this was just the beginning and that we might see many more side-by-side or before-and-after shots between the BD and the 2.5, also the batha/cantina sequence with all the layers on display was just amazing to watch (though, I'll never be able to look at the head animation the same way now).

Thanks for the anniversary treat.

I know we talked about this several pages back but would anybody be interested in doing a community commentary for the latest Despecialized editions? I will be creating a new thread so that it doesn't go off track but if you are interested, come on Harmy :) go to the other thread

michealkirschner, I hope that wasn't an attempt at a jedi mind trick on Harmy, I would think he the least susceptible here to such things.

Great documentary, Harmy! I only wish it were longer :D

If I can offer one small critique to an otherwise excellent work, the yellow text on a white background (at the end of the Despecialized Logo with the Ronto bit) was a little hard to read.

Also, wasn't there some talk of a documentary on Lucas' changes made to the OT over the years, and the reason for the DeEd in the first place?

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Hi, Harmy!

As I'm the one who uploaded your Video Sources Documentary to YouTube, I'd be happy to try re-encoding the video at a higher bitrate and upload it again. I'm not encoding master, though I hoped my conversion of your .mkv to an .mp4 container (to allow uploading to YouTube) using the program Handbrake preserved sufficient quality. Unfortunately, I think most of the lost quality is due to YouTube's re-encoding rather than on my end.

Still, I agree with yoda-sama; I think that watching the video at 720p on YouTube shows more than enough detail for your hard work to be appreciated, though even watching lower resolutions allows for the novice to become aware of the incredible effort put into this project. Regardless, I provided plenty of information, including your download link for the video on uloz.to and a link to this forum thread, in the description of the video on YouTube; so those who are truly interested will be able to easily find a better copy.

What limited feedback the video has obtained on YouTube has been generally positive and thanks you for your work, and I've pointed at least one person, who contacted me in response to the video, in the right direction on how to obtain the Despecialized Editions.

Once again, thanks for everything you do! Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

I am sorry, it wasn't meant to be a slight at you. It would have been better to just upload the mkv to YouTube (I think that should normally work) or if it has to be mp4, just use YAMB or something to just remux it without reencoding, because that must have caused loss in quality too, though it is mostly because YouTube compression is just horrible.

1971 here. Saw all three films in their original forms in theaters during their original runs... ahhh to be 6, 9, and 12 again!!

Same for me... Nice to be in good company !

Gotcha's both beat - 1966.  My first SW viewing was at a drive-in theater!

Anyone able to beat that?

I know, I'm late to this sidebar.  Sorry.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.
