Somebody Announces Something New about Star Wars! — Page 2

Well written, CP3S.

I was just thinking what an awesome period 1994 to 1999 was. Those were my optimistic years. Man, I miss those days when Star Wars fans weren't divided.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

'94-'99. Peak of SW fandom in my book. Great EU, great games, and no prequels.

Honestly, it was all good for me until 2004-6. Sequels and spinoffs of varying quality is perfectly normal and fine, actively shitting on old fans and the actual film foundation of the whole thing is unheard of and gross. I tossed  20+ years of unswerving brand loyalty right out the window.

also in the same bracket...

1994–1998 = Babylon 5

1994-1999 = ST: DS9

The whole of the '90s infact was a golden era for Sci-Fi TV, films, games etc. I literally cried at the end of B5's last episode.

But the next day I probably thought, never mind there's a new SW film in 6 months!

So back to topic - what do you guys think about the new series ?

For me it was 2000-2006. The 1997 SE was released on VHS and games like JK2, JKA, KOTOR, KOTOR2 and EAW were released.

Honestly, I don't disagree that much out of Star Wars has been disappointing in the last 15 years.  I won't argue with that at all.  It's just that there is so much pessimism and negativity, when I'm seeing several trends in the right direction.  I think things will get better.  It makes me sad that so many people dislike so much about its potential future.  It's like they think nothing redeeming could ever come from the franchise again.

Take a look at my little signature. That was Lucasfilm speaking with us fans seven years ago, and since then there's been no indication whatsoever that their stance on this matter has miraculously changed.

That's the whole foundation of the Star Wars franchise, to me and many others it is the only Star Wars, so I am afraid you'll have to live with the negativity and pessimism surrounding the Star Wars brand until the day they bring that back again, there simply was too many who fell in love with that "original toy", you just cannot buy a new one that looks and behaves differently and believe that the child will forget his favorite one and accept its replacement.

You could of course start censoring different opinions but that would be stupid. And about every third post being negative in spirit still makes the majority around here surprisingly optimistic I think. I think the Star Wars fans are some of the most loyal ones out there, I actually have a hard time believing other fanbases would be so accepting as the Star Wars one after such lack of respect for its fans.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

Gosh, please don't misunderstand me.  I don't mean to censor anyone.  I criticize ol' George for much of how things have been handled as well, especially the repression of the originals and the low.  But Adywan started a thread on the new series Rebels.  And immediately many folks say it will suck.  Maybe it will.  But then, maybe it will be great.  I understand this site will attract people with negative views towards the direction of the franchise, but I feel it is often overdone.  Just my thought, and the reason for my spoofing thread.

It is not like people say it just like that... they have been experiencing disappointment after disappointment for more than 10 years. Any kind of statistical algorithm would make the same kind of prediction based on that kind of previous experience/data.

Sorry not everybody agrees with you Ender.  This is obviously very tough for you (not one, but two threads started about it). But I'm not seeing or hearing anything that makes me believe that the new stuff will be any better than what we've got since 1997. The announcement of a new animated kids show to replace the other animated kids show doesn't excite me. New films that have to follow in the PT soiled franchise don't excite me. It's all easier for you to believe in because you seem to like most Star Wars related media. Some of us don't. 'Cmon buddy. Put your sunglasses on and deal with it.

Speaking for myself, post ROTJ was pretty much a barren wasteland as far as Star Wars goes. Sure I still had my toys, the films on video, but that was pretty much it. The EU didnt interest me. And as I grew older the toys ended up in the attic and forgotten and the films gathered dust under the TV. The Super Star Wars series on the SNES or watching any of the OT (usually ANH or ESB) on a morning after a rave drug comedown with friends was what Star Wars had come to be in my life. Childhood memories and occasional 'cool' nostalgia...Then came rumours of a prequel trilogy in the late 90's. Everyone was 'Shit! New Star Wars!! We'll definitely have to go and see them when they come out.' One of my mates starting getting designs for tanks and other stuff of the Internet and the poster of Vaders shadow behind the kid came out and my interest was turned up to 11!..and..ahem...yeah...Now finally a sequel trilogy! Bring it on. Surely the franchise can't go beyond nadir? That's impossible isn't it???

Exactly.

And since there are only news and/or rumors about upcoming releases, any opinions concerning them is really a moot point if you think about it. It hasn't been made yet, no-one has seen them, so saying "it will be great" is as valid or as ridicilous comment as "it will suck". But then we wouldn't have any discussion at all. I have to say that I'm more surprised about the optimism regarding the series. Hell, I didn't like TCW at all, and even I said I was somewhat interested. And I have to add, I like to be surprised positively, so I will always keep my excitement down. Nothing sucks more than being overly-excited and then let down. And if any fandom should know that, it's Star Wars fans.

I think someone needs to grow a thicker skin.

And then intolerant PT fanboys attack us because they can not deal with the fact that people can have different opinions. On top of that they call us "haters".

Just to clarify things, I dislike people who blindly attack any criticism, even when it's sound, well-argued and constructive.

In Internet-speak: I hate hater-haters.

This applies not only to Star Wars community.

I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

I think you guys are missing the point.  I have always been just fine with others' opinions.  It was a humorous thread, and I think it might actually be my third mocking thread of this sort.  I don't care if you all want to trash everything.  It just comes to a point where it's really annoying to hear so much whining.  If folks are misconstruing my thread as a genuinely emotional thread, you didn't get the joke.  It was a joke.  I tend to use winkies when I'm joking, but since I was trying to make a...sardonic thread, I was creating a sort of character applicable only to the thread.  If you read many of my posts, I'm in a very similar camp to the rest of you.  A thicker skin is not needed in this case, nor is a need to deal with it.  The Internet is full of whiners, and I wanted to make a commentary about it.  If anyone else has a problem, I think they're the ones who need the sunglasses, because if I'd realized this silly thread would provoke such defensive reactions, I wouldn't have even started it.  It was meant to be funny.

This is what happens when I try to make a humorous point without using emoticons.

Well, I saw this thread when you first posted it without any replies, and I knew that you were just trying to poke some fun with it. I just didn't think it was funny, as it's pretty much true and kind of sad that it is that way. Us, fans, can't get as easily excited as we maybe should. And again, that roots to those subjects mentioned in the replies.

Also my earlier reply was based on this whole thread which became more argumentative and not the original post, just saying. No offence meant.

Edit: And this is your third mocking thread? I have to ask, why? If you don't care about the subject ("people trashing everything"), then why the mocking? I think these replies are no surprise to you or anybody else, otherwise you wouldn't have made this if you didn't stir up some conversation. Again, I know it was meant to be as a joke, but I don't think you just expected to get LOLs out of this.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

I should restate perhaps.  I don't mind people having an opinion.  Most opinions here are valid and well justified.  I don't care if anyone feels the way they do.  What does bother me, and really only just a little, is that there is a lot of the same kinds of repetitive complaints.  I've just read that George Lucas should rot in the Underworld in so many different ways that I thought I could make a little reminder to lighten up a bit.  If you read many of my other comments and even threads I've started, folks would see that my views are very much in line with theirs.  I just think I'm a little more positive about it all.

People need to spend a little more time in off-topic, I think.

And _ender, don't expect LexX to find *anything* funny.  It's yet to happen.

Beldorion the Hutt is supposed to be muscular! Do you hear me, lameass digital artist? MUSCULAR!! He's NOT supposed to look like the FUCKING BASTARD SON OF JABBA AND GOLLUM after a BAD FUCKING NIGHT OF BINGE DRINKING!!!!!! He's SUPPOSED to be the ARNOLD FUCKING SCHWARZENEGGAR of the Hutt world!!!!

THIS is how Beldorion is supposed to look.

http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130225220138/swfanonii/images/thumb/a/ac/Beldorian_Leia_Duel_TEC.jpg/640px-Beldorian_Leia_Duel_TEC.jpg

You SEE that? ROCK HARD, SINEWY MUSCLES! How HARD is that to GET!?

Oh well, at least the lightsaber's the right colour. Most DUMBASS Star Wars artists just stick the bad guy with a red lightsaber, REGARDLESS of whether or NOT s/he actually USES a red lightsaber in the story(s) s/he appears in - like with this picture of Kueller.

http://www.mathachew.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Kueller_JATM.jpg

Kueller's lightsaber was described as BLUE in The New Rebellion - BLUE, LIKE YOUR BALLS WILL BE AFTER I'M THROUGH KICKING THEM!!!!!!!!!! And another thing- Kueller had a WHITE, RUBBER SKULL-LIKE MASK, not a GODDAMN METAL DARTH BATMAN HELMET!!!!!! STOP DEPICTING HIM WITH THE DARTH BATMAN HELMET!!!!! IT ISN'T CANON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bump.

It is an old thread, but it checks out.

Amazing that so many hate Star Wars and want everyone else to know about it - again and again and again - and far past any genuine criticism. Some haven’t even seen some of the new films and series!

I’m out of here for a while. I hope that those you who DO enjoy the films and series continue to do so, and the people who have stated their genuince criticisms or problems do so too.

As for the toxic and negative people looking to spread thier agandas of hate everywhere… I hope they find somewhere else to post, and soon.

Who? Where? I haven’t seen this happening on this site.
AFAIK, I’m the only one around here who’s opted out of the ST and I’m certainly not trashing it.
