Maybe they genetically manipulated the clones to have extras bendy joints ;-)

I am probably opening a can of worms by asking this but, why the hell do we people want to make ESB more like the prequels anyway?

The last thing Ady probably wants to do is rotoscope light reflections from blasters frame by frame, when he has so much other work to concentrate on. Like someone else said, it's a lot of work for very little gain.

Probably because the movie industry managed to fool a lot of people into believing that flashy and over-saturated pictures were more meaningful to a movie's quality than a deep story and convincing characters.

Well, if you were looking at it that way, then this whole exercise would be kind of meaningless though, wouldn't it? You could as well just watch a VHS of the original version - the story and characters would still be the same.

I see what you mean. However the point of this exercise, as you say is not to make the OT look more flashy or over-saturated. As far as I can tell it's about improving it, restoring it and erasing some awful changes introduced by the SE.

Also, I've always enjoyed watching my VHS of the OT. I never got bored watching them. Make me watch one of the PT movies however, I can't promise I won't skip some scenes or just simply press 'stop'.

I think we can all agree that ady's visual changes and additions are a lot more sympathetic to the spirit of the originals than anything lucasfilm have done for the SE or the Prequels. To compare ady's edit to the 'flashy and over saturated' prequels is not fair at all, though I'm guessing this wasn't really Harmy's intention. :)

No, not at all, of course. My point was that with Ady's changes, which are mainly about visual improvement and adding more realism to the visuals, the story and characters stay the same just as they would with added reflections, so the story and characters being the important thing isn't really a valid argument against tastefully done reflections in this case, because it would be very much in spirit of changes like re-rotoscoping all the laser bolts or adding more asteroids to the asteroid field.

You're assuming I was making a case against the laser bolts reflections, which I wasn't. I was answering a more general question.

Author

Oh, yeah, you're right, although from previous context, the question was clearly pointing towards the reflections.

There was a lot more than that done in ANH:R use of deleted scenes and footage from the other films too.

It was actually quite Radical although it remained true to it's roots and is actually my definitive version that I would watch now. It has replace the special edition and the original. I have not forgotten the original but I prefer this version.

You can still expect some radical ideas in ESB:R and just beacuse ADY says he's not doing something or not does not mean that it will not end up being in the edit.

I think he likes to play devils advocate sometimes... And although it will be true to it's roots there will be some radical too. Just think of the glaring issues or faults that Empire has and the new filming that is being done.

I love the radical stuff as long as It feels right and grounded in it's roots bring it on.

as for the reflection and as you say Harmy it's in the spirit of revisited it's a fair suggestion the only thing that bothers me about it is I have never felt that there was a problem with classic storms troopers so I think it's easy to get protective over something like that when as you say It could be a real improvement but as I said my brain does not contemplate visual effects on this level or how it is done and also you can tinker with something like that and get huge backlash if it's not done tastefully or even overdone... If you leave it alone no problem

I think it's different to the examples you give slightly but not totally.

Maybe light doesn't work the way it does in our universe. Maybe whatever their "lasers" are made out of glow but don't cast light.

I was ashamed of myself today with an idea that Gungan technology was responsible for the shield on Hoth and was operated by Gungans... I felt dirty afterwards

Ady should kill Jah Jah in the most disgusting way possible in the special features for each of his revisited editions... It could be a running joke that Jah Jah always gets killed in the special features. :)

In ROTJ perhaps he could have him first burnt by boba fett with his flame thrower and fall into the sarlac pitt but also get beaten to inches of his life by ewoks and then an AT-ST treads on him while he is rolling about in pain

I'll stand by your idea of Jah Jah being Eaten by a wampa but only in the special features

Thought I would post these concept arts up for interest purposes battlefront 3 concept art files that were found hidden in files of another game.

Not sure if this is any help but It may be quite good for visualizing any layouts or inspiring... Or a basis for some mattes

Looking especially at the first picture... I'm not an expert how hoth is laid out but to do a flip shot of the ion cannon shooting during battle and composited on that backdrop (with plenty of blue sky) would not be such a bad thing and to see it fire again... Anyway whatever just more food.

It would serve as a reminder that they are fighting the battle / invasion still on another level and not just on the surface but no need for outer space shots.

I did warn you about my big clunky ideas sorry

I'm sorry, I know this isn't exactly on topic, but this guy's left arm must be dislocated at the shoulder and broken at the wrist to get it into that position. WTF ILM.

.... It looks like he has 2 right hands to me...

But hey, they're clones - can't get it right every time!  ;)

Nope. I'm sure Ady does not need some guy to answer for him, as this is his project after all, most fan edits were born out of fantasies, good or bad.

That's completely irrelevant.

I'm pretty sure I'm not mistaken when I say that Ady said multiple times he welcomes suggestions but he won't add anything in his edits no matter how popular the idea is.

I mean the guy spends a lot of free time in his edits, and unlike some of us (including me) he has a family to take care of. So from my POV any special feature he adds is something that should be worth the time he put on it. So if I have on suggestion for him on this matter it's "Don't do it Ady. Killing off Jar-Jar, even in the extras is acknowledging he ever existed. Better to wipe out his existence entirely".

As for adding a dead jar-jar in the wampa cave... I'm gonna assume it's nothing more than a joke.

When Adywan blew Jah Jah to smitherines on Alderaan in the deleted scenes he clearly expressed a desire... I am only seeking to nurture and develop that desire further.

but only as a running joke and in the special features

As far as suggestions go, I don't expect any of my ideas to be in the edit but giving Ady suggestions atleast shows your interested and gives him different ways to look at stuff, helps keep him motivated and creates more excitement and I have spent a good deal of time thinking and working on them (about a week) including what some may see as a fault some may not for instance Luke saying "I'll cover for you" POV shot from Wedge's cockpit. How does Luke cover Wedge if he is following Luke and has no rear gunner????

In that sense I am not only doing that exercise for everybody to benefit to bring things up as potential issues but trying to find any potential improvement that I could see for Hoth.

If Ady don't like my ideas that is fine I won't be crying about it but I would rather try to inspire someone with a great deal of talent than for me to try and do it myself as It would be an abomination because I could not execute them, but I don't make suggestions that are not do-able as a general rule with what limited knowledge I have. I prefer to stay grounded than pie in the sky and most my ideas are simple basis to them but are big and clunky.

I did a mental pass over this section and I am now done and I hope it helped and summounted in about 15 points but if it's annoying don't worry I have now finished like I said and the Jar Jar thing is a joke of course

I pretty sure the scene was more about extending the destruction of Alderaan than showing Jar-jar die. I'm relieved Ady decided not to put it there (for other reasons though). But frankly, if that scene with Jar-jar in it had ended up in the edit it would have ruined it.

You can't just keep saying things like "one of the worst things about the PT is Jar-jar binks" and then find room for him in the OT. I hope you see the contradiction as clearly as I do.

Don't get me wrong. Jar-jar annoys me as much as the next guy but I find all the hatred toward him and "I hope we see him die in a horrible fashion" going a little too far. I know it's Star Wars and it makes us passionate but still...
