General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread — Page 64

ROTJ is a lot darker between the lines than most fans realize. Jabba isn't that far removed from an evil fat sultan leering at his female captive between hits off the hookah, but it becomes more disturbing when the sultan is a fat alien slug.

I think it's good that Leia takes Jabba down herself. That's one of the big audience reaction moments I remember all these years later.

A lot of Rule 34 has been inspired by the Jabba scenes. Not that I know about such things...

Call me ignorant, but what is Rule 34.  I did a Google search and the links make me nervous to click on anything for fear of running into something naughty.

But otherwise I am in complete agreement with your statement.

You don't have to click on a link to read, "If it exists there is porn about it".

You're probably better off not knowing.

I'm constantly fascinated at the levels Star Wars has permeated our culture, so I have an awareness of such things. I'm also astonished that nobody had made an X rated spoof of SW until just last year. And that Lucas didn't call in a air strike on the people who made it. He can certainly afford an unmanned drone or two. ;)

I'm reading the ROTJ novel, and I have to say that I find the whole slave Leia bit pretty disturbing.  I mean, the film and book really don't say much about it, and I know it's a kids movie, and furthermore I understand that GL was probably looking for an excuse to please his adolescent male fans by getting Carrie Fisher in a bikini, but...in reality she would have been horribly traumatized by this experience.  If the Star Wars universe were real, I imagine that Leia would have been horribly sexually assaulted, probably numerous times, prior to her escape.  These are evil, horrible monsters that clearly have little respect for the rights of others, and the only females you see in the group are slave dancers.  In the book Jabba actually kisses/licks Leia and later forces her to drink out of his goblet ("Soon you will learn to appreciate me.").  I know it's a kid's movie, but as an adult this part actually strikes me as pretty dark.

Sorry, not trying to be gross.  It's just a random thought that entered my head.

This is why I find Kevin Smith's opinion on this matter so skeevy.

On a related note, I wonder if George had a reason for doing this other than fanservice. Could it be that he was making a subtle point about the seductive power of evil, and that the following revelation about Leia was meant to reveal to Luke (and the audience) just how twisted this kind of seduction really was? Or am I giving him too much credit?

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

What's his opinion on this matter? Did I miss something?

My reading comprehension sucks.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

I think George just wanted to see Carrie in a metal bikini. As a Flash Gordon fan, he probably saw the 1980 movie with all it's scantily clad babes, and then there's the 1979 animated version with the hottest gal on Saturday morning tv...

Disney looking at SW Land for its parks? Say it ain't so! Please no Disney. Stop commercializing DLand. Do whatever the fuck you want to California Adventure, but Disneyland should be above blatant tie-ins for the sake of money like that (although it's becoming more and more apparent they disagree with me on that one.) Take the new Cars Land. It's a lot of fun, but it's a great example of what's wrong. It's just marketing and (eventually) free advertisement instead of a truly unique parkgoing experience. SW Land would be the final nail in the coffin for me. Tomorrrowland's premise is basically already forgotten.

That said I grew up in the '90s and it's likely I'm just some stupid manchild too blind to see that was the park's purpose in the first place. I'm attached to how they were able to separate the park itself from their properties - yes, there are rides specific to many of them, but the areas themselves are unique. I just... oh whatever.

Star Wars themed attractions seem to make perfect sense to me.

If they were done well.

If Disney has the space for it I'd make a Mos Disney spaceport with speeders and droids. Troopers policing the place. Star Tours could take off from there. You could eat in a Cantina.

It'll be great in a wretched hive sort of way.

They gave up on that a long time ago once they started incorporating characters from the POTC movies into the ride. Heck even It's a Small World is filled with Disney characters now. At least they only convert the Haunted Mansion for a limited time around Halloween.

I for one have always longed for a Star Wars theme park. So I hope they do it well.

As I own some swamp land property in Florida, this is potentially good news for me!

If it's kept separate from any other "land" in the park, what's the big deal? Old Walt was into movie tie ins more than people remember these days. The Nautilus sets from 20,000 Leagues were on display in Tomorrowland way back when.

A Star Wars themed eatery is long overdue. Blue Milk had better be on the menu!
