[OUT - ruLes] Original Unaltered Trilogy restored using Laserdisc editions - A New Hope (Released) — Page 5

Right now I finished to test audio and video synchronization of OUT 2.0.

It will contain Heiry Hen's 70mm reconstructed soundtrack, and Belbucus mono soundtrack, plus the original five Dolby Surround soundtracks (english, french, german, spanish, italian).

After Marvins' subtitle fix will be finished, I'll release the OUT 2.0 .m2ts file; this time it will fit a DVD±R DL disc.

sorry to join the party late. This might sound basic but why would the Pal laserdiscs look any different (other than resolution) than the official unaltered dvd. Aren't they from the same source?

Same thing with how the DVNR looks less in certain areas, wasn't that done to a master source which was then used for PAL and NTSC videos?

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

No, the PAL laserdiscs use a different master. ANH has less DVNR, while TESB has more and looks worse than the GOUT DVD. Not checked ROTJ.

Just wondering, are the Dolby Surround mixes going to be in the original matrixed 2.0 format or are they the faux-5.1 renditions found in the first OUT ruLes release?

improved features of Star Wars: A New Hope [OUT ruLes v. 2.0]

  • color correction not needed - just a bit more saturation than OUT 1.0
  • the new sharpen/denoise script is less aggressive than the old one
  • a proper color matrix is used this time for the final release (TV.709)
  • proper levels used; PC -> TV, from captures to release
  • a re-recorded italian soundtrack - with proper hi-fi quality
  • a synchronized french soundtrack near the end
  • completely redone sountracks, 2.0 Dolby Surround encoded @384kbps
  • Heiry_Hen 70mm 5.1 soundtrack @448kbps
  • Belbucus Mono soundtrack @192kbps
  • literal french subtitles
  • 8 half-dark frames between reels change restored
  • proper file size of the .m2ts file to fit a DL DVD

I had not seen your version of ANH before starting to work on the french literals subtitles. Now that I do it, I must admit that this is really a very good job and the quality is really amazing.

Are you sur the french audio track is a Dolby surround track and not only a stereo track ?

I did 50% of the work on subtitles.

Thanks!

The OUT 2.0 will be slightly better, both audio and video.

On the back cover of the french laserdisc, is not stated that the french soundtrack is Dolby Surround, but only stereo. But, as all the other PAL THX laserdiscs (and italian VHS, too) are Dolby Surround, maybe is not stated on the cover, but IT IS Dolby Surround encoded - sometimes is not stated to not pay royaltes to Dolby...

Well, in the OUT 2.0 the only audio conversions will be from 25fps PCM 1441kbps to 23.976 AC3 384kbps.

I'll wait for your subtitles.

I began to work myself with the spanish subtitles, because they are not literal as I suspected... I left the correct lines as they are, trying to transcribe the dialogs as best as I can, but, despite the fact that spanish is similar to italian, is not easy for me...

If there is some spanish speaking user who has some spare time to dedicate to this project... I checked roughly 30% of the spanish subtitles; this is what must be done:

  • check if the remaining lines are literal
  • if they are not literal, listen to the spanish audio and transcribe it
  • read the fixes I've done and correct them (all accents are not there!)

tools needed : "Star Wars: A New Hope" with spanish soundtrack (my OUT 1.0 could be used, too); a computer, a simple notepad or spreadsheet software; a lot of patience!

Also, the german subtitles need to be fixed, too. This time I don't dare to do anything with it; a german speaking user that would like to help with it, must do everything, sorry...

Hi!

I may introduce myself: I'm Martin from Austria. Thai Panther asked me to go through the German subtitles and correct it. I started yesterday evening (A new hope) and...

NEARLY FINISHED!!!!

What a work.... but done!

Status:

- I have 4 entries which are missing completely.

(- There are 2 more new scenes in the 2004 SE I wrote the subtitles for. But only plain text for now. In case someone wants to use it)

- 4 entries may be too long, but don't have to. Need to be checked.

Whats next?

- I will check to get the Subtitle Editor running to check all subtitles so they fit for sure. I need to set the time codes for the missing entries.

Open questions:

- The subtitles are writen in a newer grammar which was not effective 1977. If you do not oppose I would like to keep the original grammar.

- Any other things to do?

In general it was strange how certain things were changed, while other kept the original dialog.
This seems not only because of ease of reading or space management.

Thank you for motivating me to do this. Loved it! Had two times tears in my eyes as I did not see it for quite a long time...

As SET has the same dialog lines for the two additional scenes (Jabba and Biggs) I will use it for it.

Give also Subtitle Workshop a try.

I agree 100% with you... this is the spirit of my Amanuenses project... I mean, when in 1977 the staff in charge for italian soundtrack decided to call R2-D2 as C1-P8, why we want to forget it? As this very soundtrack is present also on GOUT, why don't make literal subtitles following it? The same should be done, IMHO, for the other languages.

- Any other things to do?

I don't think so for now. But if you have the time and the spirit to do the same for TESB and ROTJ... (^^,)

In general it was strange how certain things were changed, while other kept the original dialog.
This seems not only because of ease of reading or space management.

The same happened with the italian soundtrack and, reading the french subs done by marvins, for the french sountrack too, and I could confirm that is the same for the spanish soundtrack, that I *attempted* to *try* to fix...

Thank you for motivating me to do this. Loved it! Had two times tears in my eyes as I did not see it for quite a long time...

Again, thank to YOU for the effort and the speed you have done this hard task!

I have now to get familiar with the subtitle program(s) to set the correct time codes... hope this takes not too long.
I don't know how to get the dvd content into the editor (yes me noob). But I have Harmy's despecialized versions on disc I may use these instead for now.

You may send me already TESB and ROTJ subtitles...

BTW: Thanks to Laserschwert who gave me the hint that I used the wrong word. Not the grammar changed but the orthography.

Just released SW:ANH [OUT ruLes 2.0] - take a look at its own new thread.

Please do not post here anymore, as this OUT 1.0 project is superseded now.
