I too have been holding out for 2.1 - my fiance has never seen SW(!) and I am looking forward to her inaugural experience to be this one.

Same story with me and my son.  So no pressure, Harmy ;)

Just want to announce that, holy crap, I've just bought tickets to see Nathan Fillion (and I suppose Shatner [again], 3 TNG actors, McGyver, a Ghostbuster, and the Species chick) at Dallas Comic Con this May!

Sorry, this was wildly off topic.  I was tired and not thinking straight to have put this here.  Still excited, though.  :-)

The AVCHD has been rendering since late last night. Current ETA 8 hours.

Then of course I'll have to watch it and probably rewatch it for errors but I will be uploading pretty soon.

AWESOME! Can't wait!

Sidenote- A buddy of mine, Like Puggo, recently got engaged and his fiancee also had not seen SW. Being a pretty hardcore fan, he was going to dig out the old GOUT VHS tapes, but rather than sit through all of that fuzzy, tracking laden nastiness, I lent him my Harmy Trilogy inc. V2.0 He (and his fiancee for that matter) were happy campers.

I've got a laserdisc setup in with my home theater and am planning on shortly purchasing the LD Definitive box set to have all of the extra behind the scenes stuff, and I have a feeling that between those extras and Harmy's HD editions, I will have all of the Star Wars paraphernalia I will ever need.

We have a separate thread for random thoughts.

Sorry, Moth3r this page was up and I was excited.  But yes, now that I think of it, it was wildly off topic.

Might I say (on topic), I'm surprised by how may people I'm finding that haven't seen Star Wars (original or even SE), and even more surprisingly in this thread I'm hearing that people are actually daring to engage in marriage with such people without testing the nerd waters beforehand with Star Wars.  I mean, it should at least find its way into a pre-nup that if she hates Star Wars that you can have an out...  Yes my wife is pretty hot, but I established that she was also a good bit nerdy before proposing.

Anyway, we're both excited to see this new release, if we find anyone who hasn't seen Star Wars, that will be remedied; like we did with the coworker AND HIS WIFE who hadn't seen The Goonies (how does that happen?).

Harmy, I'm anxiously awaiting the 2.1 version like many others. You've been a busy man. Thanks for keeping us informed in the thread.

Harmy you're still the number one choice for theatrical cut of Star Wars according to this first comment on this recent reddit post

The best post on that thread was someone who said that Disney should produce a special edition of the prequels, and call it the "Deshitified Edition".

I like BuckNaked's idea of just keeping all the movies on a USB drive (or several). My question is this (sorry if it's dumb, but I'm not real experienced in this realm): What are the various formats? There's talk of the 15GB MKV, AVCHD, DVD5. What are the differences? Just trying to devise a plan of action as far as what to get and how to store it!

Thanks!

MKV: currently the best-quality version.  Can be remuxed into a Blu-ray, or played as-is.  I don't believe an MKV version of 2.1 is planned (see below).

AVCHD: mid-quality, can be burned to a DVD9 and played back in many Blu-ray players.  This format is good for people with Blu-ray players, but without Blu-ray burners.

DVD5: lowest quality, also contains only one soundtrack option (English 5.1).  However, this burns to a DVD5 and can be played back on any DVD player, which makes it a good "friends and family" edition.

Harmy also plans to release a Blu-ray version (highest quality with tons of extras) which can be burned to Blu-ray, and a standalone M2TS which is the same highest quality and functionally pretty much just like the MKV.

Just to reiterate: He's not releasing an extra M2TS. He's planning to release the main film's M2TS for the Bluray separately from the rest of the Bluray's files.

Unless you wait for someone else to upload the Bluray to Myspleen. Then it will be together.

Though, the only form you'll probably see it "separately" by the time it hits myspleen would be it converted into a .mkv already by someone before they upload it.  Only people getting it through whatever initial upload channels he chooses will have to deal with any file separation issues.

@nos402 expect to first see an AVCHD of 2.1, and if nothing needs to be changed there'll be a 2.1 (otherwise 2.5, and the AVCHD reuploaded) release by Harmy consisting of Blu-ray files, with an (as mentioned above) .mkv and NTSC DVD-5 produced by community members as they see fit.

There wouldn't be anything left to produce then.

So I watched the rendered AVCHD and I've found around 20 things that I still want to fix. They are all tiny little things that will only take a really short time to fix, so I can't with clear conscience release this to the public. This should only add a few days before the upload of the AVCHD and will result in a much more polished product.

Great to hear it is nearing completion. Really looking forward to it!

Well, if you're going that route, you need to insinuate that under it's shell the mouse droid has big (like GIGANTIC) knees, and call it "Torgo!".

I suppose, but the little droid isn't on screen long enough to get proper Torgo theme music going.  Besides Tobor is from the Rifftrax to the Star Wars Holiday Special (totally watch it this way, btw), which makes it a relevant reference for a Star Wars commentary.

If your parents love you, they will buy you Tobor.

Here are just a few of the high res images I was talking about earlier. Harmy let me know if you might want to include these as part of your special features and I'll send you the whole set

Those are pretty cool. I'd sure like to see all of them, though I'm not sure I'd use them on the BD.

Have had it (actually, full confession, along with every single feature riff, and a whack of shorts and iriffs as well...btw, Breaking Wind..er...Dawn pt 2 next week, WOO-HOO!!) since release...don't remember Tobor though.  I blocked out a whole bunch of that one.

And there's ALWAYS time for the haunting Torgo theme...

Btw, what the heck is that last pic from?  Only one I've never seen, and I never realized they shot any of the cockpit stuff against, what, rear projection?  Awesome pic.

A) I understand making the final tweaks. If it were me, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night without everything being just the way I wanted it.

B) OHMYGOSH Hamill, Fisher, and Ford in VII? That might be worth seeing. I'll still have to wait to hear from other moviegoers just to make sure nothing asinine happens like, oh i don't know, Jar Jar inexplicably showing up...if the coast is clear, I'm all over that lol.

C) @MichaelKirshner: Forgive me for not noticing your original post, but from whence did those pics come? They're awesome. Looks like a print source?
