Yeah, what the heck was Princess Leia's theme doing in there? Way to spoil the OT themes we're technically not supposed to have heard yet. ;)

NeverarGreat said:There really is something magical about the original end credits of Star Wars, isn't there? It just flows like pure inspiration, and the other end credits compositions for all the other movies just highlight the fact that the first one was perfect. The others almost seem forced (no pun intended) so that they can end on the same musical motif. It's actually jarring to have the Star Wars end credits at the end of ESB. That movie has a much different end, and should probably have had an entirely different composition to match.

What do you mean? ESB ends on a version of the rebel theme, SW ends on a version of the throne room motif itself.

I probably like the ESB credits the best. It's a more romantic, less heroic and more mellow theme that rolls off the optimistic drama of that film perfectly. Plus, it's the one you hear in all the trailers and whatnot.

I actually really enjoy the prequel credits as composed, the ones on the albums. The very mellow horn restating anakins theme in AOTC, ROTS coming full circle with a full length restatement of the throne room theme. And of course anakin's theme from TPM itself, the only one that played in theaters as composed. :/

It's right when the credits of ESB appear. The slow buildup gives way to the same motif from the first film, which then transitions back into a version of Yoda's theme. My point was that both compositions are identical in the first few seconds of the credits, and it doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the ESB.

However, I agree that AOTC probably had the best end credits after Star Wars, simply for the Across the Stars theme.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I became an OT purist the day I saw ROTJ in the theater for the first time after seeing the other two.  At that point I was like "the Star Wars Trilogy rocked".  That was the "Trilogy" ..... that was IT.  I was like 12 when that happened.

The SE came around years later and made me re-appreciate them even more though I will say that as a standalone anniversary presentation I was and still am cool with the 1997 SE.

That is all ...... :)

Probably before the 2004 DVD set came out when it was reveal Lucas made more changes. I had always preferred the UOT, but that's the moment the cynicism set in. After ROTS came out the following spring, I drastically lowered my interest in the franchise, even though I never really spent much on anything SW-related.

I became an OT purist shortly after AOTC came out.  I thought some of the SE changes at the time, were ok, mainly with ESB's cloud city.  But I didnt know at the time that Luca$ was gonna phase out the OT and enjoyed having the option of either watching the "faces" VHS OT or my VHS SE's.  I thought the changes to ANH were ridiculous and barely watched it at all.  My OT love soared as I was disgusted with TPM, and AOTC made me projectile vomit.  My devotion to the OT further amplified with increased EU releases-which created numerous plot holes, Luca$'s unlimited lies and middle fingers to fans with further OT changes(clive Revell's removal for douchebag christensen), and the increasing marketing sellouts for $$$$ (SW-transformers, SW angry-birds anyone?).  I just started recollecting the action figures again after Luca$ sold to Disney, but I only buy the OOT figs!  Bought a Wedge Antilles and an imperial navy commander recently.

To answer the initial question; Think I've always been. I remember seeing the SE at the local cinema thinking "This doesn't sound or look right" about all three. Even though I did think that the additions to the final ANH battle was kind of cool, it ended up as a "meh" in my mind. And I kind of had that feeling confirmed when I bought the WS VHS set. So up until the DVDs came out I stuck to my original widescreen editions of the trilogy and the SE just sat there collecting dust.

And then we got the GOUT and all, and I discovered OT - forums and well, here I am, purist to the heart. And a fan of fan edits ;)
Cheers all!

I think you mean Sebastian Shaw.  Clive Revill was the original emperor in ESB (along with prosthetics and some superimposed monkey features).  All the same though, replacing Shaw with Christensen was horribly executed and makes no sense.

This was originally part of my second reply to the George Lucas thread, but I decided it was too long-winded and off-topic and would fit better here:

I can't speak for anyone else (though I have a suspicion that many will agree with me) but I care because his stance on film preservation applies to all films but his; that he was actively suppressing and attempting to destroy the originals (covering up or removing hard work done on the originals by other people, et cetera), through neglect really peeved me and many others. The fact that Star Wars is such a huge piece of cultural and cinematic history made it all the more egregious.

And I know many other people care so much because the original versions of the films were a huge part of their childhood, and now they don't have access to that part of their childhood anymore.

I can't claim that, because I grew up watching the Special Editions, but when I finally found the Original Unaltered Trilogy through fan preservations, I realized how much better the films were before the changes. I went into my first fan preservation without the "taint" of anti-Lucas, anti-Special Edition, anti-Prequelism, thinking "Well how much different can it be? I like the CGI stuff from the Special Editions!" and I came out a changed man. They're just better in their original format.

I still have this nagging suspicion that the Prune Faces actually came form an attempt to depict the Emperor with a one piece mask.

If you look at some of the depictions of him in storyboards for ROTJ he looks less skeletal and old and more simian and alien.

I'm as always prepared to be proven utterly wrong by you good people but the designs do look rather similar.

And they do like to recycle (like the Vader concept becoming the Death Star Droid).

Interesting, there's definitely a likeness between them. Where does this Prune Face show up in ROTJ? I only recall the action figures...

He is in the briefing scene, in the back of the shuttle and on Endor if you know where to look.

Interesting theory. And it seems pretty valid and reasonable. Never thought of that before!

The "Prune Faces" are visible in the background of a few shots of the Death Star briefing in Jedi, and one (with a cloak and hood on, so you don't actually see the face) enters the the Tyderium with Han after he talks to Lando about the Falcon.

This guy.  Droid.  Whatever.

I became a purist when I realized that it was ok to face the facts that I didn't think the prequels were any good.  I also pretty much abandoned the EU as well.  It was fun, but would I read them again?  No.

Could you elaborate on this?  Not sure which droid you're talking about.

I believe he is talking about this guy, below (although this is the one that appears on the Jawa Sandcrawler).  But a black version can be seen on the death star.

Ok, yeah, the only Death Star droids I could think of were the mouse droid and the black version of the one you guys posted, who walks by the elevator to the detention center.  I didn't realize it was a recycled Vader concept, but I can see that.

My username actually comes from this guy on the sandcrawler.  Sounds to me like he says "spilka bilka."  :)

Anyone remember different camera angles from ROTJ?
