It would be daft to stop these projects based on something that might never happen. When you get a letter from the magic kingdom then rethink the project but until then nothing has changed. Act as you intended to before today and if they ask you to stop you still have experience and some cool bits of kit. Until then you still have six films to make work so get busy.

That last sentence made me laugh, lol.

From what I've read, it looks like Fox will be retaining the distribution rights to the existing Star Wars films--Disney will only have rights over the new films. It's also important to note that although Disney has indeed purchased Lucasfilm, it will not be absorbing and/or merging with it; rather (for the time being, at least) Lucasfilm will be operated as a subsidiary and will be headed by Kathleen Kennedy (which isn't quite so bad). Lucasfilm staffing will probably remain relatively unchanged.

True, but still...  We all know Lucas was already not hurting for coin.

I think Katie showed great promise with her contributions to The Clone Wars. Kinda wanted to see what she would have done. I always assumed, she would inherit the empire.

But yeah... $4 billion.

I don't see any reason that this has to be the end. Your original intention was always to make these fan-edits for you and your family and friends, and Disney can never prevent you from doing that. You've been kind enough to share the Revisited saga with all of us, and because of that, you've become very well-known in certain circles. If push comes to shove, you can finish your edits as originally intended, for your friends and family. If they somehow end up online one day, without any warning, and with a new pseudonym attached to protect your privacy, that will be a blessing for your many fans.

But I would never let the potential threat of Disney stop you from fulfilling your passion. That would be a tragedy.

Not to judge or begrudge Adywan for the decisions he makes for his edits but it sure sounds like the Revisited Edits have been a burden on Adywan for quite some time and maybe he would welcome a letter from LF. I feel there are too many here that have the attitude that Adywan has to finish the edits, as if Adywan owes them something. A man can only take so much abuse until he call it quits. Just saying.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

no, i don't look upon them as a burden of any kind. i do love doing them. As with everything you do for a long time, you do get a bit tired of it, but then something re-sparks my enthusiasm. If i ever felt like giving up completely then i would just stop, but that day hasn't come yet

I pray you never find this a burden Adywan. Your work has renewed my love of the original trilogy, and I can't wait to see ESB done right!

That's excellent to hear Ady.  You have always displayed kindness, integrity and intelligence in your posts here and elsewhere, so I am not surprised to learn that you are making the Revisited edits for the right reasons.

Regarding a possible C&D order, as reported above, and as detailed here:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/tangled-rights-could-tie-up-384541

Fox has indeed retained the rights to the first six films until 2020, when all but the rights to Episode IV (which will remain with Fox in perpetuity) will revert to Disney, so perhaps that C&D order may not come quite as quickly as feared.  Of course Fox themselves might issue one, but I'm not sure Disney can.

Thanks for posting that news for Adywan.  I was stung in the heart when I read his post about the C&D possibility as looking forward to his completed ESB:R edit keeps me optimistic and enthused about having at least two of my absolute favorite films of all time - get the TRULY 'Special Edition' Lucas took a pass on.

Here is the good news as far as the original Saga goes and the threats that might come from the Mouse:

Ready for the first wrinkle in the Disney-Lucasfilm deal?

While Disney will own and release future films in the "Star Wars" series, the deal does NOT include the distribution rights to the pre-existing "Star Wars" films.

Those rights remain with 20th Century Fox. In fact, Fox owns distribution rights to the original 1977 "Star Wars" film in perpetuity in all media worldwide.

It also has theatrical, nontheatrical and home video rights worldwide to the other five films in the series through May 2020.

So here's to optimism that we will have a 2013 to look forward to in finally getting ESB:R completed and in our library next to the original.

I find your lack of faith…disturbing

I guess this means no OUT Blu-Ray release. :(

Even if they HAD been sold to Disney (and in a way they have, but only as of 2020)....do you not think that GL might have put something in the contract that prohibits any release of what he sees as inferior versions of his films? He was always very stubborn on this....going so far as to claim that he believed ESB to be the least successful of the OT films. I AM hopeful....this whole incident DOES lead one to believe he has finally given up ALL control...his temper tantrum finally complete (first retirement and now the sale of all he created)......he has perhaps finally convinced himself that he no longer cares about the one thing that made him great in the first place. BUT I will not be terribly surprised if it turns out that Disney is contractually obligated to continue to ignore the versions made prior to 2004.

Distribution simply means the right to distribute (and make money from) any release that they are given - the actual footage for the release (with the exception of some commentary/special features) is complete before they get their hands on it. That puts the OUT in Disney's hands to restore, and simply means that they are forced to deliver the finished product to be released through Fox.

Ultimately, I would assume this sets fan projects up to be targeted from two different directions - illegal distribution (which fanedits are not... but who knows how they'll view that) effects both companies equally, and it is in the interests of both Fox and Disney to protect their assets.

However, it is my belief that fan projects help rather than hinder, and the business savvy people at these companies probably know this. Sure, Disney sued some daycare for painting Disney characters on the wall, but that is well within their rights when they sell wallpaper and posters and wall decals. They could never sell edits, and as such aren't missing out on profits from this particular area of fandom.

Since they are both publicly traded companies, shouldn't that contract be subject to public record laws?

Is there nothing that the rest of team Adywan can be doing on these projects while Fort Ady awaits the placing of a desk against a wall and plugging in some computer equipment?

One of the benefits of no longer just being Adrian must be delegation.

While Adywan has more personnel, he's still the one who puts the pieces together, he just gains the pieces from more places now.

Yeah but could he just draw up a construction plan for the pieces he can't currently glue and give it to someone else with a glue gun?
